This is what I look for in an album review. Thank you for your entusiastic brevity. I feel like I know each song already and now want to buy the album and support the great Neal Morse. It is amazing to me the way things come around. I used to follow Eric Burdon and saw him many times with Neal on keyboards and guitar and Dave Meros on bass. I heard that they had a side project going called Spock's Beard. I bought one of their cds and was underwhelmed. Come to find out that was the great Neal Morse that I was disregarding. I had no idea what ideas were incubating in his fertile mind as he sat or stood there supporting this legend. I talked with Dave many times but Neal was always aloof. I had not an inkling that I was in the presence of of a musical and spiritual genius about to bust out of his shell. You are right nobody gets to play music with him who is even a borderline slouch. The guitarist who plays on Similitude, who I cannot even name, is a beast. The bass player as well. I am so happy for Mike Portnoy for releasing himself from that secular, albeit powerful, progressive metal outfit known as Dream Theater in order to hook up with Neal and deliver more positive messages to planet earth. Long live Neal Morse, the ambassador of joy! I can say this although I do not share his belief at this time. You did a great job of covering the music without getting in to all that.
Yeah, this was mid to late 90's. Ever stop to consider that your channel praises all great music, from the ultimate skepticism and non-belief of Peter Hammill to the Jesus-loving Neal Morse and all points in between, such as the new-age ramblings of Jon Anderson? IMO it is not moral relativism but rather the appreciation of beauty in all its forms.
Hi Scot, your review convinced me to check this album out even tho part one didn't really grab me. I was recently checking out some videos by a RUclipsr called Electric Brain Electric Shadow and he compiled a King Crimson ranking by combining several RUclips rankings. Then concluded with a round up of which RUclipsr's ranking most closely matched the combo ranking. Guess which RUclipsr was closest? You, naturally🥳. Don't know if you've seen the video? Its called "The ultimate king crimson studio album ranking + which RUclipsr ranked them best?" Peace, Love and Respect, and God save the Scotmobile🙏🏻
Pretty close to my review on it, too. I actually think the songs on Part One are better to my tastes, this got a little bogged down with the narrative of all the brothers. But the last two songs are great tracks for sure! Another epic undertaking from Neal, and I’d be happy to see it live at a Morsefest.
music is nice Neal Morse instrumentation but can't get over the lyrics and theme. ditch the religious themes and get back to Neal Morse Band. Won't be playing much off this. Favorite is 58 sec overture 100.
