    I laugh at how similar we do things. Inexpensive shelving, shop lights and utter joy at starting seeds. Keeping it simple.
    Northern Indiana here (snow and cold) but will still be starting things that take a while soon. May I suggest a small pump sprayer to replace the water bottle. My hand used to cramp from watering 🤣 They make small ones that don't have a hose but give a continuous spray. Excited with you as the season gets closer!

    • @seedandsparrowhomestead
      @seedandsparrowhomestead  Год назад +1

      Why don’t you live in PA!!! 😂 I think we are kindred spirits. Ok, yes to the pump sprayer, good call. I do have a sink down there and I thought about hooking up a hose although I’m unsure if that would be a water disaster with over spray. It is exciting! Do you check plant babies every 30 minutes like me in anticipation waiting for life?? 😂😂😁

      @@seedandsparrowhomestead I was also happy to hear that someone else doesn’t like the up potting of the starts. I’m changing things this year to start out in bigger pots so I don’t have to do that. This is year two of seed starting so I still have a lot to learn.

    • @seedandsparrowhomestead
      @seedandsparrowhomestead  Год назад

      Thank you so much! Absolutely! Just make sure there are no big pieces( you may need to sift) and make sure it isn’t too dense, it should be light and fluffy. If you are unsure you could always combine your compost with some perlite and coco coir/peat moss. ☺️ Happy planting!

    Excellent video. I can’t wait to start my seeds. This will be year two for me. Made a lot of mistakes in year one but also saved a lot of money not buying starter plants. What zone are you in? I’m in Indiana, zone 5b and plant out in mid-May but haven’t started anything yet. I tried herbs and flowers last year but didn’t have any luck with starting from seeds. Tomatoes and peppers were the seed winners last year.

    I was so excited last year to have tons of tomatoes!! I had 10 plants that seemed to do well up until the tomatoes started getting ripe, and all their little bottoms turned brown! And mushy. I have no idea why that happened 😆 I got about 20 cherry tomatoes out of all my different types of plants. I don't know if I'll give it another shot this year, it's a lot to point end up with nothing if it were to happen again 😕. I enjoyed it up until that point though 🤷‍♀️

    • @seedandsparrowhomestead
      @seedandsparrowhomestead  Год назад +1

      Oh no! That’s Blossom end rot. It’s a deficiency in the soil most likely. Paste tomatoes are more prone to this but all can get it. You can add lime or gypsum to the soil for calcium. Make sure to water deeply and consistently. It’s a learning process! Don’t give up! You’ll be glad you stuck with it 🤍
