Bourtzi Fortress in Nafplion, Greece

The fortress served the defence of the city for 350 years, during which time it underwent several repairs and modifications. During the Greek Revolution, it played an important role in the liberation of Nafplion.
Burdzi functioned as a fortress until 1865. Then it was the residence of the executioners who executed the death row inmates of the Palamidi prison. When the executions stopped, the fort was abandoned.
