It’s insane that the Supreme Court even took this case.
Exactly. Even arguing the point is ludicrous because there is NO situation on this earth that could make a president commit crime to carry out their job.

The conservatives on the court are partisan hacks. Roberts took this case to deliberately hobble the ongoing criminal prosecutions of Trump.

One of the justices (Jackson, I believe) said some of this guy's argument was circular logic and he (or anyone really) could not define what an "official act" is. So this may get knocked back down to a lower court to argue what an official act is.... sigh 🙄 such ridiculous nonsense.

I guess the justice forgot that in 1776 we had an American Revolution to do away with a King (crown) and establish a Republic with 3 branches of government.
They can't even decided on what an "official act" vs. acting for personal reasons. In fact, they went as far to say that EVERY act a president makes could be considered acting for personal reasons. So maybe in 2 or 3 years, if we're lucky, we'll get some vague ruling on that?

Kagan is the one who should be impeached and disbarred for continuing the LIE that Trump refused a peaceful transfer of power.
This is scary to listen to as an American if what Sauer is saying means we are not a country based on the rule of law. For one individual to be excluded makes that impossible and they can become a lawless dictator who answers to no one and throws out all the rules. Definitely not what founding fathers intended, time for the SUPREME court to squash that bug now.

Well, where does it say in the constitution that the president is or is not above the law? Like absolutely without doubt, where does it specifically say that? No where. It doesn't say a think about the President being immune. So, when you say "no one" what are you basing that on? Not the constitution. Just your own interpretation. But, I'll refer you to the much cited Article 2 of the constitution and you'll find NOTHING that says either way. It doesn't even mention the president relationship to the law. So, for you to say "no one" is not valid. That's your opinion and not actual law. We have no laws in this situation, cause I don't think a president has come up before the law (other than Nixon). Its not ludicrous. What is ludicrous is 1. a rapper, 2. the fact you think "no one" without any documentation to support your claim. So, what this case is doing is making that documentation. It'll put into law yes or no, or yes or no with exemptions. So, in the future someone like you can come along and say "no one" and actually point to the law where it says the president is or is not above the law. That's pretty much the point of the case. So, to say its ludicrous is just ludicrous. You're essentially saying that we just just say something is a law without there being any laws to say such. We should just say "no one" because we feel like it. So, the law is based on what we feel, and like wikipedia, open for change.

Actually the president currently does not have to be impeached to be prosecuted. The only thing that says a president has immunity is a Justice Department memo. Justice Department memos are not the law. The Supreme Court may rule that a person has to be impeached, but at this point they haven't. Trump's lawyer needs to go to his law school and get a refund. They did not teach him much law. Alina Habba might want to do that also.
These attorneys got their law degrees from failed Trump University.

Actually the first part is false. Theirs such a thing as a self coup. That’s when someone takes power legally and then tries to stay in power or expand their power through illegal means. It’s also when one branch of government tries to seize power from another.

The lawyer could have stated that a coup could not be conducted while the President was in office. If an action was taken after the term was over, by a minute or a year, he would have no support by the military if it acted according to its oath and defended the constitution.
