TerraTech - How do you stay recharged? How many shields do you run?

I have been having a blast with TerraTech. The most useful tip I can give any player is this. Build a solar powered, remote charger and attach the GeoCorp block collector. At the end of each fight you are collecting blocks and getting a top up. The tech you see has been build with salvaged parts. I don't have the Hawkeye licence.
I have eight forward shields, +2 flank shields, and 2 repair shields and 6 GeoCorp monster batteries. I welcome invasions.
