The sad part is each of the Daltons had a unique personality and skills to make interesting characters : * Joe is the short tempered but smart leader who plans their crimes * William is the trigger-happy expert gunslinger who has a weapon fetish * Jack is the devious and cunning master of disguise * Averell is the strong, tough but gluttonous and naive "muscle" Too bad their initial characterization hasn't stick...
at the very least "the daltons" tv show did give William (or jack if we consider that here they switch there names) more character as an intellectual person
@@detectivewobbuffet2778 I think at this point it's a running joke. Just like Joe having a short fuse and Averell being a lovable idiot, William and Jack not remembering or not caring if their names get mixed up is just part of the charm.
@@detectivewobbuffet2778 Also Jack, while still being the least focused brother, he is depicted as the shy one of the group and Joe's main sidekick, as well as the most mature and the one who calls out his elder brother's flaws in his schemes
It’s funny to see how much these characters have changed throughout the years. From being just outlaws not really feared by anyone and just being pathetic to be considered an actual threat and still really pathetic.
It's honestly a bit of a shame any future comic following this could be seen as devolution to the Daltons' characteristics, with only a few novels highlighting their once clear diversities. Morris' stance that Joe was a fitting leader but in no way the most intelligent of the Daltons only continued as far as probably "In the Blizzard", and likewise so did Averell's spunk and ability to be on par with his older brother in strength and common sense to an extent, taking into account the scene he retaliates against him about 'no longer playing the idiot of the family'. William & Jack's skill never found a return to form, unfortunately, but I suppose Jack gaining a spark of superior knowledge (‘Cowboy in High Cotton’) and being the only one to truly rival Joe in ego/attitude (‘In the Blizzard’, ‘Dalton City’, ‘Ma Dalton’), & William, aside from Averell, being a continuous dunce (‘In the Blizzard, ‘The geniuses’) and definitely the most sensitive (There’s about four comics showing he can’t hold down a drink and seeing how he’s often the one to ease tensions between the gang; if his views on Averell are anything to go by such as his comment in ‘Rintincans’ inheritance’, their relationship is probably the least confrontational) are decent replacements.
My brother was laughing at me just the other night because I realized, out of the kids in our generation of the family, he'd be Joe and I'd be Averell. XD (Oddly enough, I can match up other kids in our generation with Bob, Grat, Bill, Emmett, William, Jack, and Emmett Jr., too. Maybe we missed our calling, lol.)
I remember that this was sort of recycled for one of the episodes of "The New Adventures of Lucky Luke", "The Dalton's See Double". Anything similar to that?
"The Daltons See Double" is about a family of identical actors impersonating the Daltons with the use of masks. The Daltons capture the actors and split into two groups, robbing different towns at the same time.
Actually I think in the original old comics William was the taller one, while Jack was the shorter one... and then later it got switched the other way round and stayed that way.
That's what I was gonna say. I'm pretty sure William was always supposed to be the taller one, but with how many times they've been switched, who can say for sure. It's gotten so bad that, "William is the second-tallest" and "Jack is the second-tallest" are tags on AO3.

"Averell isn't wanted at all."
Dayum. That...that kinda hurt. Poor, Averell.
Nah... why did they do the lankiest dalton wrong?

So they haven't changed at all 👀
Ah yes. The first appearance of Joe, William, Jack, and Averill, (I hope I got the order and spelling right) to avenge, Bob, Emmett, Grant, and Bill.
I love these comics
More please!!!
So... We never got actual Daltons in this show YET this episode is about their cousins wanting to take revange on Lucky Luke for them???
