Based solely on first-round placement. I would feel comfortable with any of the rounds. You get one shot and it's going to be a cold bore. Seeing that all the rounds performed very well on the first shot, all of them would be a fine choice. Your deer won't know the difference. Great Video WTW!!!
I said it before Hootie-man, gitchu one of those outdoor canopies then your ammo, your rifle, and you will all be in the shade. That is a special rifle, all different ammo and the point of impact hardly moved. Hang on to that one!
May I suggest that you get a portable sun shade, the kind that is square and pops up. Get them for under $100 @ W.M. That way you, the rifle, the ammo, and the whole shebang could be in the shade and comfortable.
Love me a .308 cal. Early ‘70s dad graduated me from an 03A3 30-06 cal. to a brand new Parker-Hale .308 cal. Winchester It shot tight groups with 180 gr. reloads. I enjoy your videos! Thank you! 👍👊🏻
I bought a battery-powered air mattress inflator, trimmed the barrel & found a straw that fits the barrel of .22-250's. It works great out in the field, drastically cutting barrel cooling times. When I don't have my pump, simply propping my rifle up (in the shade) for a drawing effect really helps as well. I'm just say"n. Cooling time, in the summer heat...heck, even in winter's cold, gets old fast. Yet another great video - thank you!👍
Backfire repeated Ron's results too. I am a huge fan of Barnes bullets. J shoot their 175LRX in my Savage .308. I have now harvested mule deer, 5x5 elk, cougar and black bear with 127LRX in 6.5cm. The elk and bear dropped in their tracks. The others went less than 30 yards.
WTW, I agree with you about the 180 grains as far as a hunting load. I appreciate you reviewing this rifle as it is one I am currently considering, in this caliber too!!
I have a Howa 1500 in 308. My pet load uses a 165gr Hdy BTSP, Varget powder, for a .5" average at 100yds. That turned out to be the best, testing all sorts of 150 and 165gr bullets. That particular gun likes that bullet / powder combo. I'd have to go look up the load data sheet, but it was not a fast mover, more middle of the velocity rage if I recall. That said, that gun/ammo combo is my visitor gun at the ranch. That rifle of yours will shoot.
9:22 Bro I'm going to keep saying this... you mess up your groups (Last shot) by breaking shooting position, especially when you get excited when there goes two into one hole. Believe me, it really makes a difference trying to keep the exact shooting position. Love your content either way!
totally agree, but also very understandable, on the range on your own you would not move a muscle as you have said, but, knowing thousands of people who share the same enthusiasm are watching and to be entertained.
Thank for the video man. I may have to pick one of those rifles up and that ones in my favorite cartridge. As far as what bullets I would use hunting. I would pick the copper load. I switched to all copper bullets for all my primary hunting ammo that I load a couple years ago and to me the copper bullets I use (hammers and Barnes) seem to put animals down faster and not waisted meat. Thanks again man keep up the good work God bless you
Go buy a battery power air pump like for air beds, off the discharge side us a rubber gas line about a foot long, open bolt, put the rubber line just in the chamber and turn the pump on... 1 min later the barrel is ambient temp ready to go another group, cuts the cool down time drastically down
I wanted to give you my take on 165gr. I have a Remington Model 30 Express in 30-06. Now, this is an old army rifle that my grandfather gave me when I turned 16. It is a 1917 Enfield action with the ears milled off. A 1906 Springfield barrel. An old army stock cut down into a sporter. Weighs in at 9.6 lbs. I shoot Sierra 165gr. BTSP in front of 47.0gr of IMR 4064, either Remington 9 1/2 or Win LR primers. In the old military brass. Which now have roughly 10 or 11 loadings. Brass is cleaned in media tumbler, and Necks pushed back .0025 then seated to 3.700 I average .500 to .625 groups, depending on temperature and humidity. Try working up a hand load with 165gr. You'll like them. Jeffrey D
I am impressed with the consistency with all of those different ammos. Looks like Remington has upped their game in the ammo department. I'm really liking that rifle, too.
Hey, it may be more of a pain than it's worth, but it would be cool if you could setup a chronograph for these ammo tests. Even if you just took the average of the 3 shots. I know I personally don't have one and try to find the same bullet being shot out of the same model rifle for a velocity for my ballistic data.
WTW, I got to go on a rant. When I was young (70's & 80's) you had your choice of Rem 700, Ruger 77, Win 70 & Weatherby if you had the cabbage. Those rifles were offered in like a dozen calibers short, long, magnum. These a-holes now want to offer .308, 6.5 CM & maybe 223 and that's it. WTF? Got a 223 and don't want the other two. We're screwed on unique calibers.
Browning, Colt/Sauer, Mannlicher, Mauser, Savage, & I think even Marlin had a bolt rifle in the 1970s. Rem had the 788 and the 600 series as well during those years and Winchester had the 670. One can still get a fairly broad range of cartridges, if one has the cabbage.😉
I've been extremely impressed with the copper bullets hunting the last few years. I'd go with that, but prep the barrel a bit(clean well and run a couple boxes)
I'd like to see if this rifle likes any of the grain weights that Fort Scott Munitions has to offer in their solid copper. They offer .308 in 150gr, 165gr, 168gr, and 175gr. I am a big fan of the Hogue Overmolded stocks. I have a Ruger M77 Alaskan Hawkeye chambered in 300 Win Mag with the same type of stock.
I would like to see the 165 grain given another chance. I had a savage 110 .308 that loved the 165. Not to be a keyboard warrior but just to make sure that 2 flier wasn't a fluke or not as consistent trigger pull.
Thats a winner 🏆 budget friendly and shoots good with different ammo weights. As far as Im concerned the cheaper box of ammo you shot is good for deer hunting in the hills of Ky.
150 grain and up for elk, moose and small bear. 180 grain for bison and medium bear. 150 or less for deer and pronghorns. .45-70 and bigger with 250 grain or heavier for the big bears. This is all assuming correct shot placement. And yes, I've heard the stories about the 95 pound woman with the .22 cal revolver and the Alaskan Brown bear. Grizzly Adams used to be one of my favorite sit-coms. You I trust.
I haven't found a video by you comparing the two, but since you have both: Which do you think is the better budget fluted barrel rifle, the Savage 110 Trail Hunter Lite or the Ruger American Gen 2? Both are 20" fluted barrel cerakoted rifles and going for about the same price near me.
Just bought one. Thanks to your video review. Was thinking Ruger but I already have two so I wanted a savage. What is the distance between your two dots on the paper plate? How do you figure out the correct distance?
I have the 110 tacticalon a Choate stock topped with a Vortex Viper 6.5x20x50. Very basic. I use Federal Gold Match 68gr. I get groups under an 1" all day.
Whoot, you do such a great job of accuracy testing everyday guns. Have you considered the new savage straight pull bolt? I can’t remember what they call it?
If you could superimpose all those groups somehow, that would be a pretty impressive 18-shot group. Pretty crazy considering the varied bullets and weights!
Hello Sr. Do you have some news about the .338 win magnum? It stopped grouping, as far as we know. Did you find out what the problem was? Did you fix it?
Dang Adam, you Almost got a trifecta!!! #1 Must clean bore before or after copper comment #2 Must keep Ammo in the shade and looked but couldn't find #3 Did you chronograph the loads?? LMAO!!!!!! I would use the copper 150's. Xlnt vid as always
I own a savage 110, in .223, its my most accurate rifle i own, with 68gr hornady bthp match bullets handloads i have put 5 shots in a nickle at 100 yards. I own a couple handfuls of rifles
Another great testing video. Sometimes it’s good to do some ammo testing to see what other ammo that gun might like or if it’s picky. Because you might not be able to find or get a certain ammo at the time you need or want it but you have backup options. I may have taken a mulligan on the 165s, just in case and put a 4th one on paper. All of those will definitely hunt, but for where you’re at in some thicker areas those 180s would be the choice. You have probably sold more Savages especially as of late and Ruger Americans 🇺🇸 than anyone else in the country lol 😆. I would love this gun in a left hand in either the 350 L, 400 L or 450 BM since I now live in Ohio. 😃🦌
After hiking over 4 miles with a rifle on my back at 5400 ft. and having no place to get out of the sun, the attention to hot barrel, hot ammo or other unnatural constraints is a laugh. Getting the game under those circumstances is the goal, not the unnatural attention to detail.

You are making us all look bad. You shoot 1/2 inch groups day in and day out. I will get a 1/2 inch group if the stars align perfectly. I do love a 308 Great video
You bought a humdinger there. You could hunt with about every load except the 165 Grainger’s. I’m not a fan of them either. Once again, thanks for another great video.
I haven’t watched yet, saw and heard 150gr. all copper bullet and wanted to say that I hope you shot the copper first? I guess I’ll find out if you didn’t clean it, and that it if you didn’t if going after the others it affected the groups of the all copper bullets or not? lol Nope, shooting the all copper after not all copper didn’t appear to affect the accuracy of those all copper bullets. lol
I paused video at 2:16 to comment. I like heavy bullets so I would probably buy the 180 grain if I could afford only 1. Paused again at 10:56. The 180 looks like it was less than .5 inch. I would take that any day.

In my 300 WM , 308 Ithaca , 308 Savage , 308 Weatherby .... 165 gr and 168 gr were all well under 1 inch at 100 yards with 3 shots groups at .50
Which do you like best now? Heavy or fluted version
This is the best channel for seeing new rifles and how they perform.

Example of Savage accuracy.

Yes! If the camera shots will allow it DO IT! We won't laugh because we understand.⛱

Ron Sponer posits you must clean your barrel before using copper ammo if you have used regular ammo. Could tighten up that group even more.
He doesn't say you MUST, he admits he doesn't know why but typically coppers in his experience don't shoot as well after shooting traditional guilded
Backfire repeated Ron's results too.

Tell us what is the rifle twist rate. This is critical with different bullet weights. I would recommend 10 inch twist.
I have a Remington and a RUGER in .308. They both like 150 s. But they both like PMC bronze 147 the best. Thanks for the video.
Adam if you can try some 168 tipped hunting bullets in that 110 . That would be your best all round hunting bullet in the .308
Whoot, you do such a great job of accuracy testing everyday guns. Have you considered the new savage straight pull bolt? I can’t remember what they call it?
Ron Spomer would say use what works, but copper is king. Just clean your barrel first. So copper.
The great thing about the savage 110 is that it will shoot most bullets pretty well.
If all of savage 110 do the same, it's better than any other rifle I have seen... Amazing. And the ammo? wow.
I've had 6 308's all of them group under 1" with 168 grn match bullets non of them like 165. Some of them will group 168 hunting bullets under 1 moa.
Savage 110 series are generally tack drivers due to the bolt design.
Nope. Robbed the scope off it
My experience has been the same with the 165 grain bullets with two 30-06 one 300wsm and one 308
My bullets ride around in my pickup heat and cold doesn't seem to affect it

In the future when you are testing boo lot stingers or ammo, can you mention what the barrel twist rate is...if ya know. Thanks love the channel.
If you had to pick one Which would you pick Savage trail hunter or CVA Cascade?
Savage
My savages have always loved 168gr loadings.
100% agree with you on the 180gr. Think large! Nothing beats mass for deep penetration on game.
Savage has up'd their game. I wish they would bring back the Hawg Hunter in 338 Federal. This cartridge should be way more popular!
Thanks for the testing. Great job.
Thanks for watching
Ever thought about getting a pop-up for some shade there?
Yup. Gonna have to get one
I would like to see you test a Nosler M21 in the 27 Nosler.
I would have thought u would have tried some 175g SMK also for grouping.

My Howa Superlite likes the 150 Corelokt Tipped the best
You should get a canopy to keep sun off you when testing boolots!
Need one

Coppers have come a long way. I remember when Barnes first came out with solid copper bullets back in the 90s. Accuracy sucked.
How thick is that barrel? Curious if it has a heavier profile or lighter contour.
I know I sound like a broken record. I always test my hunting loads and match to gun after all that is done leave outside overnight better in cool climate make sure that first shot is in the bullseye. In Indiana rifle season in mid November is sometimes cool and you usually get ONE SHOT to kill that buck
Those new trail hunters give you a lot of gun for the money. Savage should sell a whole bunch of them.
I really like the fact that you use factory ammo. I don’t reload. I like the idea, I can go buy the same rifle and ammo and should get the same results. No nonsense. My kind of reviews
I like the regular core lokt Remington 180 grain myself
Can this and or the 5.56 model be converted to AICS mags?
I dunno
You are making us all look bad. You shoot 1/2 inch groups day in and day out. I will get a 1/2 inch group if the stars align perfectly. I do love a 308 Great video

The weird thing about copper bullets is the suck at penetrating steel. Don't know if you ever watched banna ballistics channel he show it.
Adam, I think you Jinxed the 165 gr .😊 I think your thumb is hindering your groups Adam when your thumb is healed do a retake on the 308's.
It will shoot Hornady 165 gr SST in the same hole.

Pretty much busted the myth of going from lead to copper or copper to lead. That joker will eat whatever u feed it. Nice
A gun that put lots of ammo with that little shift in inpact that is a gun to keep 👍
Your bringing a deer home! That copper to me was the best.
Shouldn't have told us but I would've picked the 150 tipped anyway.
👍👍
I agree that most 30 caliber rifles like 150 grains, but my CVA hates them. It shoots 165 coreloks in one ragged hole
Go figure
Is that a bedded stock?
Pretty cool don't usually see a boolot slinger that likes that many kinds of boolot s I would take the 180 s I like a heavy large boolot for hunting
What's the cost

I think I did
