• Elis Regina O Bêbado e... . Note: I do not own the rights to this song, I am just reacting to it.
great great singer , its difficult to translate the music because it is full of merafors about a sad moment on Brazil, the dictatorship in 70s, and the music is about this, the melody is incredibly beautifull, this is MPB (the genre)...there is a recent movie about her: 'elis'
Fake! today lula is dictator..
The metaphores included in the lyrics were a way to prevent the music to be censored by the State (under a dictatorship regime).
You have a lot of videos of her. Not sure you realize, millions of Brazilians consider her the finest singer Brazil ever had, and significant numbers of those consider her the finest singer THE WORLD ever had. That's a little over the top, but it's simply that they find her so overwhelming that they lack any way to express it except to elevate her to such level.
As for the song, it's nothing like a "nightclub" song, which would generally imply a torch song, lamenting a lost love. On the contrary, this song is political, written and sung during the military dictatorship in Brazil, and protesting that dictatorship in between the lines - and not very far between them. In fact the protest is more boldly open than many other songs from that era. It refers directly - not between the lines - to "o irmão do Henfil" - the brother of Henfil - someone who "disappeared" under the military regime, and to "Marias e Clarisses" - wives of persons who were tortured and died, and who now (that is, the wives) "choram" - cry. The title of the song, too, refers to the anguish of living under the military regime. The drunk teeters through life. The "equilibrist" is an unfortunate exact translation, etymologically of the Portuguese "equilibrista", but "equilibrist" is not really a word in English, not found, for example, in Dictionary.com. The correct translation is "tightrope walker". That conveys very well what this song means to say. One slight misstep, and you could easily fall to oblivion - be killed or simply "disappear". As for Elis smiling at the end, I think it's sort of a mockery of the dictatorship: "o show de todo artista tem que continuar" - the show of every artist has to go on. Is this not saying, between the lines, that the country has to go on - and WILL go on? In other words, it recalls the line in an American protest song, that "We shall overcome!" Too bad that Elis didn't live long enough to see the dictatorship overcome.
This song was marked by a very delicate period in Brazilian history: resistance to the military dictatorship and requests for the return of political exiles who had been persecuted and tortured. The "brother of Henfil" (a famous and brilliant cartoonist) is Herbert de Souza, Betinho, a sociologist who lived in exile. The lyrics are poetic and full of metaphors and became the anthem for the political amnesty that ended up happening in 1979. Listen to the music again paying attention to this context. You will certainly be even more excited.
Henfil's brother died tortured during the military dictatorship here in Brazil
@@ladyharpia @edmilsonandre3802 This song appears on a João Bosco album in 1979 and on an Elis album, later the same year. Dictatorship in Brazil started in 1964, in 1979 the dictators were beginning the transition back to a democratic regime (that happened finally in 1985), and approved an Amnesty Law. Henfil's brother, cited in the song, returned in 1979 among various other artists and politicians. Elis died in 1982 and certainly saw this amnesty happening. Henfil's brother returned to Brazil in 1979 and didn't die from torture. Henfil and his brother were hemophiliac and both died from aids complicaions in 1988 and 1997, respectively.
She talks about dictatorial military in brazil ! That many artists were exiled in others countries! Likes Henfil's brother, after this age, returns to Brazil. That artist shows must continues...
The best Brazilian singer ever... elis regina ❤
She was brilliant. The song isn't meant to be "smiley", it's about the dictatorship in Brazil in a genius metaphorical way.
Elis Regina is just for people that really like music
Lacônico e direto ao ponto. Ótimo comentário! ❤
That is way beyond nice. She was extraordinary!
the eight best singers of Brazil for me: Elis Regina, Gal Costa, Nara Leão, Elza Soares, Maria Bethânia, Cássia Eller, Elizeth Cardoso e Clara Nunes. There are others, of course (Beth Carvalho, Carmem Miranda, Ângela Maria, Nana Caymmi, Astrud Gilberto, Maysa, Liniker, etc. etc. ) but these eight I believe are the basic ones.
La amo... Enorme Elis!!!
The lirycs makes reference to a Brasilian political situation in 70' during a fascist /militar government period. Our tradicion is much strong on the mining of lirycs than the vocal performance of the singer.
So, if you don't understand what the song is about you will loose 80% of it's beauty
My friend: the best singer in the world ever!!! Poor Barbra Streisand...
If you are picking this track , it was a Joao Bosco and Aldir Blanc written song. The partnership was prolific , it produced many hits , so dig up for Joao Bosco tracks. Plenty out there. Corsário, A Nível de , Ronco da Cuica , Papel Marche , gosh there are so many to,list.
Cheguei agora no teu canal.
You said everything.. just didn’t understand anything!!! lol 😂
Someone invoqued the Brazilians, here we go!
Não é literal... O bug dele pra entender a legenda automática do google kkkk🤣
Have you heard of Clara Nunes before? She was a Brazilian samba singer from the same period as Elis Regina. Give it a try, I'm sure you'll like it. ruclips.net/video/dcVKb2ht6BE/видео.html
react to águas de março you will like
How about Village People REACT. ELIS IS A MYTH. ELIS LIVES
react more to brazilian artists please ❤️🇧🇷
🇧🇷
The translation does not give the real dimension and meaning of the song. It was released during the military dictatorship as a cry of suffocation, and the lyrics are extremely serious and dramatic.
Coloca legendado.
NOOOO THANKS !!!!!
