I know of one exactly like this with 400ci 4-spd that sits unseen in a garage in Port Angeles WA. It's all original with just over 40,000 miles. Nearly perfect in every way.

My grandpa has one identical to this but automatic. He was 89 and he loved driving it.

The 400 Pontiac engine code in the '79 T/A was W72 and produced 260 horsepower and 320 ft.lb. torque, the most powerful engine available in any American car in '79!

the 79 TA 400 was factory rated at 220 HP> I had one. I can attest though that was underrated (intentionally) from the factory. I raced cars that were dyno-test at 300+ HP and never got beat in the quarter mile.

These cars don't make much in horsepower I think 210 HP for the Pontiac 6.6 Liter V8 and the Olds engine is good for 180HP but they make up in torque. 310 foot pounds of torque I believe. Also breaks and suspension is a major improvement over the 60s cars.

The big block Poncho 400 was factory rated at 220 hp although Detroit had been underestimating hp for years to give would be buyers a break on insurance premiums. The NHRA dynoed a W72 equipped ‘79 TA at a more respectable 260 hp. According to “Old Car Memories”, a popular YT classic car site, the W72 ‘79 TA is the last muscle car of the Golden Era. It performs with surprisingly good numbers in the quarter and handles as well or better than European sports cars of the period according to the site. Plus, a cherry ‘79 TA is always popular with the hoi polloi at any car show.
