- Tony Allen tribute to Art Blakey Jazz Messengers
Fela Kuti said: without Tony Allen there is no AfroBeat. I had the privilege pay tribute to his friend giant Art Blakey. Long story short I'm glad it happened, so much freedom and unknown becoming known on the spot.
We delivered our humble version of some Jazz messengers songbook. Tony Allen Drums; JeanPhi Dary piano,Rhodes; Mathias Allamane upright Bass ; Jowee Omicil alto, soprano saxes.

Wow I'm not the only searching for this genius' live performances. I only wish I got to see him live. Rest in Power, Brother Afrobeat!
A worthy salute to the mighty Art Blakey and the various incredible iterations of the Jazz Messengers. Thank you Tony Allen.
Jowee Omicil is now in my personal top ten list of the best altoists.
Huge talent, a distinctive voice.
This is a masterpiece. R.I.P
Great tribute/concert with a different (musical) twist. Dig & Cheers!
So sad. R.I.P. Tony
Some lucky moments of music, thank you.
Seek out the wonderful Jazz Messengers version of "Are you Real?" (the second tune) at the Paris Olympia 1958. Art Blakey, Lee Morgan, Benny Golson, Bobby Timmons, Jimmy Merritt.
Priceless!
RIP legend
Great Music.. I feel every single note inside my heart... 🙏
Thank you Jowee!
🙏🏾
I love so much his way of playing which is a snub to all those pretentious teachers who swarm on yt , thank you so much Jowee
You're welcome. Thanks for stopping by and Listening 🙏🏾💙
on doit follement jazzer au paradis manu et Tony .... SO GOOD () =-)
Where does the idea of the jazz drums start? Tony seems to be the father of all drummers in history! Everything started from Africa, and Tony reminds us to it! THANKS TONY!
I know this was a rhetorical question, but for a really amazing resource anyone interested should check out History of Jazz Drums: media.music.txstate.edu/schoenberg/HistoryofDrums.html
Mel Lewis and Loren Schoenberg sit down for hours going through the recordings of masters and talk about their styles, influences etc and reaally dig in.
God this man is sooooo cool. Rip to a great innovator.
I appreciate all styles of drumming…gospel chops, metal, hiphop, but something about playing less and saying more is why I always come back around to Tony…RIP.
Well said. I love this style of playing. No fancy stuff, just incredible touch and wisely used strokes. Afrobeat spiced, pure perfection. (btw similar approach to the drum kit uses Brian Blade)
wonderful
to say the least. almost shed some tears
Wow!

ADIOS TON! Gracias, si.Maestro. 1ro de Mayo dia del trabajo. 2020.
R.I.P. Tony Allen "perhaps the best drummer in the world" (Brian Eno) keeping the beat! Check out my tribute on Subharmonica.blogspot.com

What a genius! Discovering these great tunes after 2 years of the passing of Tony Allen, I feel sad for the loss of such a great artist. My solace is this great music he left us. One that embodies the spirit of his motherland (Africa) and the richness of it. Falling in love!
I'm still aNd will always FeeL honored And privileged to Have been on that JourneY ❤ RiP Baba TonY
Met and recorded him in South London in 2018. Gentle and so vibrant. The audience on his every beat. These legends leave their music as legacy and footsteps for those to folow and appreciate. Oludumare receives you elder..Ase.
This Night in Tunisia can stand with ANY other version of Dizzy’s great song. The people in that audience were so blessed to be there.
I might get the whole thing wrong but toward the intro it says "La Maison des Arts de Creteil "and that would be a suburb of Paris, France.
yea, maybe next life.
So right. An infectious groove pulling you along
Wish I was there. Envy is a sin. I am a sinner.

Fantastic set, thank you very much. A fascinating blend of styles. It's wonderful to hear how Tony's signature sound comes through in this different context. I look forward to hearing the album!
