I finally got to watch Ilya’s episode of Forged in Fire from the History Channel, and my god, he destroyed the competition, and that beautiful long hair, love you guys.
in which season?
@@fallenlordik3738 season 2 episode 4
@@ThatOneBlacksmithGuy thanks comrade
The fun thing is, they show Ilia in that ep as little as possible.
Black Flash yeah sad but true
That break with Matt addressing comments and concerns is fantastic and a good feature to keep up. This will keep your fan base involved and will be helpful to others learning from you and maybe vice versa sometines
Those Tongs are awesome, I want to make or buy a set. I love how they lock . Good tunes aswell.
They are awesome! I bought a pair of the first run of these tongs. They are the best pair of tongs I've ever had.
The new intro is nice
I've been looking for you guys for over a year now in RUclips. Nice to see you guys are still making content.
Weirdly i like the lack of talking in most of this video. It find it relaxing to watch and listen to them work. It's almost like blacksmithing ASMAR without the porn subtext
Building the tools to build the tools 👍
Thank you for the answer. And I'm going to go buy it now.
Now that you have both a power hammer and the forge.... It feels like you are finally "back". Looking forward to seeing your new stuff =)
Excellent video. I loved watching the tongs being made and the sound of the hammer on the steel and anvil, so very soothing. It seems like you guys are gaining some momentum. Thank you for sharing with us.
Killer work as always fellas!!!🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Idea for a video that I think would be cool. You should show how to make a guillotine tool. It is a unique and extremely helpful tool for anyone who forges. Love the effort and work you put into this channel!
Illya at full speed is always amazing, Matt too, I wanna dance with that grinder!
Tongs are one of the first things you should learn to make.
The basic pattern was burned into my brain by the instructions that taught me.
Great videos! The anvil you mentioned on Amazon, the gentleman at Old Hickory Forge does a review of it after using it a bit.
I like y'all's simple channel better than the overblown production of the other ones.
if you want a good anvil thats cheap get a scrap forklit fork and take the back part hammer a bevel on it and weld it to a huge chunk of mild steel and weld a horn to it as well
a 7 step anvil thats high carbon
Nice work. Love the music too!
Great work guys!!! I don't do any forging work but love the work u do!!!have been following u guys since 'man at arms: reforged"... would love a video explaining the journey from there to here with all the ups Nd downs...
Videos are looking better. You guys need more lights in the shop. Love the content, keep improving..
in these Vlogs sometimes we just shoot in the raw.
Merry Christmas and keep posting videos in the new year
I have that anvil, the horn is soft but the face and tail are hard. I'd also recommend rounding the edges because they are real sharp.
Nice.
I have made a couple pair of bladesmithing tongs very similar to those. Took a while to figure how to make them. Still struggle making tongs a bit, just need to make more. Big Blu sent me a couple pair of v bit they are probably one of the nicest used to date.
Have to check yours out.
I was just wondering when you guys are going to send Skallagrim his falchion??
I love these videos! And i would also love to see a walk around on that BAD ASS GRINDER the big one! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Im a chef and once I retire i want to be a blade smith why because it is an art where you don’t need to be pushing others around to achieve greatness being a black smith is for those who want to be responsible of everything you are the product that you produce no where to hide im really a fan of Elia I watch him since forget at arms a dream would be able to be taking courses of the man and the team.
stephan walter I'm also a chef, picked up smithing almost nine years ago, and I can tell you, you will love it once you start!! And you will never have to buy another chefs knife!!
finally som more slavic labor
Nice video!
Good..
Ребята молодцы 👍
Thank for the vids I always can’t wait for next one. Question would it not be faster to use a draw knife to get your handles to size
Man that a long sanding belt Matt
Not a tool you can use to make more tools, but one I use every day: a Dutch cheese knife. I'd love to see you guys forge one of those - might even buy it ;) - but I'll settle for any tool that can be used right away: how about a chef's knife with a RUclips chef coming on to test it?
I made some tongs a while back an drilled the pivot hole and cold set the pin, felt like I was cheating at the time but I feel much better about it now :) could you start with smaller stock for these tongs? I guess upsetting the pivot area would be more work than tapering down from there. Love these videos!
SPE you could use flat stock... then the shape is basically just two tapers with the pin boss in the middle
I must have watched this 100 times trying to forge these myself.... one attempt or another, I’ll figure it out lol. Not “hard” for some but most of my focus has been making knives, and I’ve had to make a lot of tools to make up for losing access to a proper shop 😔
Always bear in mind when hogging your wood, a gentle thrusting motion is key, along with a steady grip on the wood and some pseudo 70s funk music to keep in time. And, you know, ease into the friction.
Now that you've read this, go back to 11:05 to study correct form. =p
Did you use mild steel or another alloy? Great video and a strong simple design. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Just subscribed. I have the same power hammer. Love the tong design! Saved the video in my IDEAS folder. HARD TO TELL, is the stock 3/4? I follow Torbjorn, Timothy Dick, Hoffman, Surap and others. I have high hopes you will become high on my list to glean ideas from!
What kind of steel are you using for those tongs? Nice video by the way.
Ceramic wool is not as irritating as fiberglass in my experience, and from what I've read is not harmful like asbestos or anything. Probably not great to breathe but it won't kill you cutting a few feet to make one forge. Safety police on RUclips comments love to call out.
Do you guys have any good tips for absolute beginners about projects to refine skills and essantial tools
i like the new guy. he is upbeat and quirky
Can you tell us what size stock you are starting out with to make the tongs. I'm guessing they would work with .25 stock.. ? How about smaller thickness i.e. 5/32? thanks bb
Will you be putting more of these on your site? I don’t see a listing.
What is the reason for using your tooling under your work on the power hammer instead of on top?
Круто ребята
I may have missed it in the video. Are these iron or steel?
Make the crocodile Dundee knife
What will happen to the original forge work shop?
Are you guys gonna finish that sword for Skall?
its finished they just need to ship it
@@MikePhantom When did they finish it? Thete was no video posted.
@@Johnny_Nitro skallgrim said it recently
I missed how you determined where to put the pivot on the tongs. There must be a trick so it is placed so the ends are aligned.
Any chance these are coming back to the shop?
You guys should make some Blacksmithing ASMR videos, no music no talking no speed ups just you working on a project.
Please make an Urumi sword!
What happened to the Skallshion?
I bought my 235lbs anvil for about 240$. It was a long hunt, to find one close to my home town, doesnt cost a fortune and is in fairly good condition. It has a stamp "MZM" , if someone know what factory have those letters in name please let me know. I am from Poland, so maybe someone from Germany or Russia recognise it.
Hello Ilya I'm a beginner blacksmith, and I have no experience with power hammers or where to buy one. So I was
hoping you 🙏 would know where to find a good power hammer, that is not to
EXPSIVE !!🤑
With your That Works channel, does that mean no more Man At Arms: Reforged?
what happen to Baltimore knife and sword ?
Do y'all still work at Baltimore K&S?
What happened to Man At Arms?
Nice tongs, would have liked to see the whole process, and the video on the ribbon burner, there wasn't much on firing it up and how it heats the stock and what size stock, how much pressure do you run it at etc. Bit disappointing.
Lenblacksmith Matt said they run it at about 1 psi in this video, and it's a dying big forge so they could definitely heat up some big stock, if it fits in the door it will heat up.
Mark Nickerson ok good stuff 1 PSi that’s good efficiency.
Were do you guys live
Are you still selling the tongs? I didn't see them on your store.
I love this channel. So when you brought out this video on tong making and said you are selling them I quickly went over to your web site and ordered. That was Dec 20th. since then I have not received any acknowledgment that you shipped or have you returned my 2 emails even though you say you will return them within 2 days. I’m in the middle of a project and was hoping to use them but it seems this is the only way you may answer my request. I have sold to items on eBay since I ordered and they have received them. Maybe I made a mistake. I have followed you guys from when you were on Baltimore forge. Hope I can get my tongs soon.
MA Knife and Rods I’m pretty sure everyone here would back me up saying that I answer emails right away. I’m not sure what’s going on there. I have no unread or responded emails in our inbox. Can you shoot us another one? I’m sorry for the delay. We just shipped a huge batch yesterday and are shipping another batch tomorrow
@@ThatWorks I used your website to send the messages. I just sent another message to see if you are getting it. thank you for responding. can't wait for the tongs
Okay got my tongs today, put some metal To them (knife I’m building) and these are the best I have ever handle. Worth the bitching and cry about waiting for them.
What's the significance of tapping the hammer on the anvil inbetween swings?
timing
Timing and communication if you are working with a striker. And helps keep a bit of momentum in the hammer I find as well
Are you all still affiliated with Baltimore shop
Hi guys 👋do you know where I can find a good power hammer 🔨 that is not to pricey but still is in good shape 🙏🏋♂️😀
Where is the skaltion
Is there a reason you guys use such large sanders? Most other channels ive seen have ones almost half the size. Thanks!!
most other channels are indeed half sized
@@ThatWorks while i appreciate the response it doesnt really answer the question
@@troyuhanson7756 It's about the scale of the work they do, probably.
Play that bass
Ну всё хорошо, хотя бы субтитры на русском, ну Илья
Why would the coloring of the tape matter?
Resistant to petroleum/chemicals like propane.
The only difference in white tape and yellow tape is it's thickness
tell us (or me) what happend to man at arms ?
pretty sure the ones behind it went bankrupt
it was a company that was responsible for a lot of you tube channels
So are you guys still involved with AweMe now that they’ve started up again?
no, AweMe went under as a company a little while ago, so they don't work for them anymore
vballgiant1 AweMe are back and I’ve seen some of the guys from Baltimore knife and sword in their new vids. But it’s not anyone from this channel.
@@RainMakeR_Workshop the recent ones are re-uploads, often just with excessively loud music over the top
Identical twins illiad you should be happy 😃🤣😂
Вы что, в другую кузнецу переехали?
can you upload this video with no cuts in it. I just would like to watch how long the whole process take.
Не понял почему Мэд засмеялся
I may sound like a dummy here but why does it seem to me that railroad track is frowned upon as a starter anvil?
Кто- нибудь знает откуда Илья родом?
Please make a katana
Depending on the price, I'd like to buy a pair! Beng on Social Security and disabled doesn't leave me a lot for tooling! I'm not strong enough anymore to make them myself so, I will have to buy a pair if I can't make them! I checked your website but you have NO tools at all! Did you stop making them,or what??? I would need something that would fit 1/4 X 2 inch material!
I think all the safety Nazis should chill. These are grown-ass men. Their eyes, their lungs. Leave it alone.
i dont understand how they work their steel so hot. my shit cracks at that heat every time. unless the camera sees color THAT differently
Are you using high carbon steel. I find most mild steel works just fine at the higher temperatures. The camera does mess with the color quite a bit though.
That yellow tape crap is nothing big! Air test it! I've used white tape and had no issues! If everything is tight, it's all good.
The commercials on your site are unacceptable
The irony in making tools is you need tools. You need tongs to make tongs, you need a hammer to make a hammer, you need a knife to make a knife etc.
actually u dont need tongs to make tongs ;) I used my hand to hold bar when i was forging mine, if it is long enough u wont burn ur skin or glove, if not u can soak glove with water.
I don't pretend to know much about this stuff, but why in God's name do you need a knife to make a knife?
You actually don't need tongs to make tongs!! With long enough stock or a coal forge where you can concentrate heat to where you are forging, you can use the tongs that God gave you!!
You can run natural gas, but natural gas does not burn as hot and is not, therefore, as efficient as propane.
You know who else are manly men? All those miners with black-lung. Being "manly" doesn't make you any less likely to suffer immensely from respiratory diseases... what a terrible terrible excuse. If you want to not be safe, just say that. But don't perpetuate this idea that being manly is going to help you in any way.
7:47 Really not a fan of this song, guys :(
