can a full height LTO4 SCSI card be replaced by 1/2 half height LTO5 SAS cards without issue?

Hey Matt, you can replace an LTO4 tape drive with an LTO-5 without a problem, there is a good chance that once you do so the library complains a little bit, if that happens then factory default the library, once it boots up it will be good to go but you will have to set up things such as IP, Subnet and gateway/ cleaning slots/etc afterwards
