Several posts about that, with everyone explaining this happens at least once a month 😆
Hi, I started my witchy journey again in 2020, I do remember this going on and thought it was hilarious. As a bit of a seasoned witch, I don't think this is necessarily possible to hex the moon no matter how long anyone has been practicing. In my opinion it's just a bunch of "children" I emphasize children as immature people, trying to seem cool. I believe in deities and fae. I agree, the inexperienced witches were hex happy. If anything, the hex will bounce off the moon and go to them. Anyways, thank you for this video, I love your channel and your channel is very informative.

What's wild is that this isn't even the cringiest or most wild thing that circulated witchtok. I can't remember at what time, but it was post 2020, but there were people going around talking about how their goddess or deity was going around destroying other pantheons usurp them or punish them or something💀😭 I was trying my hardest to figure out the source of the nonsense and figure out who this deity was cause all the videos people were posting were just "they have destroyed Hecate (or whoever) and this deity is next or this pantheon is next" 😭
Oh, man, and the kiddies claiming to be marrying their deities... and then getting mad at other people making the same claim, because ancient pantheons are famously so strictly monogamous... Like, coming from a Catholic background, "married to God" is a thing. "This particular god is MINE, HANDS OFF!!" is... not.

That's so crazy but social media is lol. I guess they don't do much research on different deities. Hekate predates Greece and is a creator deity. Now that I have finished the video this whole story makes me think so much about "my immortal" the fanfiction from 2006. Where the mystery of who did it will never be solved and yet many have come out insisting it was them who did this thing everyone hated just for a bit of attention.
@@ChaoticWitchAuntoh, find a dramatic reading of it! It's a masterpiece, and you will HATE it. The now nearly two-decade social phenomenon surrounding it is even more fascinating.

I also really don't care for the term "baby witch". I agree that it is infantilizing, whether as a disempowerment towards beginner witches or a cop out from beginner witches. I always struggled with being bothered by the whole "can someone give me a ___ spell? I'm just a baby witch and don't know what to do.." I would always offer advice on where they could begin their research, and then encourage them that they are not a baby which. They are simply inexperienced, and there's only one way to move beyond that.
god i just saw something about this in an occult discord and it brought me straight back to 2020, i am So excited to hear you talk about it bc the way you break things down and narrate is just,,, *chef's kiss*
I worked in a newsroom when this all went down! I wasn't on Reddit or Tiktok, so imagine my surprise when I was checking the main news outlets for story ideas that were not COVID related and I came across THAT. I thought it was a joke until multiple credible outlets were reporting it. I could only think "Yep, this is par for the course at the moment, but one, why would anyone go after one of the things that a fair number of us revere (not that it'd do anything except piss something off), and two, who gave whom the bright idea to fuck around with the beings who basically wrote the playbook of 'Fuck Around and Find Out'?"
I had to smile when your video came across my feed. I remember this drama well for two main reasons: it exposed my privacy in my craft to the community I live in (some good ok, but mostly in how it temporarily disrupted my life), and that it made possible a better way for me to live my life.......and hilariously, conversations, planned or coerced, with anyone named "Stubbs" who had ever logged on to a social media site.
I think that if this was actually true, I doubt it'd even backfire on the hexers. It's a bit like a kitten nipping at your arm. Harmless and kinda cute.
I am a Christian and literally as far from a witch you can get (except my pretty rock/crystal collection) but when I tell yall I was OBSESSED with this drama and was lurking around the big witchtok creators videos for a solid year and a half 😂 their drama always went so hard and was fascinating to watch.
I remember this being said in old witchcraft Facebook groups and it was just ridiculous it just really showed how many people truly shouldn’t and don’t have the gift and it’s forced. Because there’s no inner knowing of also discernment.
Thanks for sharing this story. I remember hearing about it but I wasn’t on TikTok at the time only because I felt too overwhelmed to add another social media platform. Frankly, now I’m on TikTok (and witchtok) late..in true ADHD witch style, LOL I do think I would have migrated over there much sooner but this story coming out in 2020 was part of why I didn’t, what a shame. As a witch who came up in the late 90’s-early aughts, I had no involvement with discussions anywhere about this but thought to myself that anyone uninformed enough to decide to curse the moon couldn’t pull it off anyway. I was less worried about the moon (and the many deities associated with Her) and more concerned about the witchcraft community. Looking back after hearing your retelling of this story, I thank you wholeheartedly for your honesty and candor! You’ve shed a lot of light on this and a perspective that many of us would’ve missed. It does make me wonder if the whole thing was planted inside the communities on witchtok and Reddit in order to keep people out of these spaces and harm the community by depriving it of many voices who might offer even more guidance, experience, and balance. I think many witches who could’ve been helping raise up people like you and others who wanted to help and educate were put off by the whole thing. So actually, shame on those of us who didn’t come to the aid of you and the rest of the witches on TikTok who had to try to manage a media 💩show.
i heard "italian witch practice" and i immediately tuned in and subscribed!! im italian and a which but dont have much connection to my area in italy !
I was so exited when I read that you were going to do this video! I was in a weird spot at the time all of this went down because I was creating on witchtok but not actively consuming witchtok content, so most of this stuff flew right past me and I only heard about the bare basics. So this breakdown was really helpful!

Seeing your response at that time made me sad so I stopped following you on tiktok but I'm so glad to have found you again and so proud of your growth!! Also fr thats so fair, Tiktok was still new, we all had no idea how quickly things could go viral. Love you!
Funny enough, the witchtok "moon hex" debacle is the one that got me into witchcraft. As soon as I discovered channels like yours, I went down a rabbit hole I couldn't climb out of, read books, tried out some rituals and a few spells and now I call myself a practitioner. 😂
as someone who was into witchblr when it was big this whole situation was so god damn funny to me bc this scandal was so completely unbelievable and i’d already lived through like, someone openly stealing bones lmao
I needed this laugh today XD I never got into the Witchtok, but I heard about the hexing of the moon and the fae 😂 Good luck with that! Really appreciated the overview of it because I wasn't there but I wanna know for entertainment purposes lmao
I remember being semi-new to witchcraft and knew it was stupid and impossible for NEW practitioners to hex the moon. Then I ran across someone who “channeled” Artemis and said she was hurt and that Apollo was mad and being like “Oh Shit…. Well they’re fucked…. Anyways, no more TikTok” or something like that. But ever since, I’ve always been iffy about people channeling for videos. Hoax or not, I’m sure the Gods had an amazing laugh. 100/10 Loki level drama. Not sure about many other trickster deities, but sounds like Loki.
As a pagan for most of my life - with an Irish father. I think witchtoks obession with the Fae always baffled me. I grew up with them as my personal boogie men... i still am weird about Fae stuff and superstitions around them. This was a great video btw.
Wonderful video! As someone who was only tangentially aware of the rumor and reactions to it, I appreciate this deep dive. I remember that my whole reaction was "Why would anyone even do that? What do they hope to accomplish?" but never got a good answer. And now I guess I know why.
It's reassuring to know that people DID actually learn something and grew after that whole debacle! Thank you for being brave enough to own your part, mistakes, and lessons, in order to share with us this funny recap of a very stressful time. ❤
Sweet sweet trip down memory lane 😂 i've been following you since the beginning of 2020 and it's been a blast seeing your practice and content change along the progression of my own craft. Much love from over the pond 🫶
Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane 😆 This "event" made it's way to the witchcraft groups on Facebook, that's how i heard about it. I was just giggling over the thought that someone thought it would do something to the moon and not just straight backfire onto themselves 😂 I've not been a TikTok user but this was around the time I started coming out about my beliefs more, being a witch for 30 years i was kinda happy witchcraft was moving to mainstream. I did feel like it was all a hoax to discredit the community. Great synopsis of the unprecedented event 👏🏻 😂❤
Yo as a psychic, when people hexed the moon, i found out the hard way because many tiktokers have no idea what they're doing, and they accidentally cursed some people's (including my own) indigenous ancestors. It gave me nerve problems that my ancestors helped heal the best they could, but i still have lingering neural connection problems and lots of phantom zaps. I HATE when people dont know what theyre doing and disrespect basic universal principles of animism. That can actually hurt innocent people Edit: Thank you for making this informative video, but im gonna have to close out. Im getting physically sick remembering everything that happened because of some immature people trying to LARP chaos into strangers' lives. This was traumatizing for someone with real ancestral roots in magic.
I am so upset to hear that ANYONE would dare to hex the Goddess of the Moon. She means very much to me. But it’s good to hear that it’s just made up. More than likely. I don’t go on TikTok so I just found this video on my feed & the title drew me in because of the Moon… the sea & tides will not be happy. Nor would nature. I can’t imagine that any of this would bode well for anyone in the world at all… thank you for the video & information by the way, I appreciate it 🙏🏻🦋🌊
9:23 omgg i actually screamed when i saw that old tiktok of you, i remember agreeing with it back then! cant believe this was 4 years ago lol, feels like yesterday.
Could you do a video on the whole Fae Hexing thing? I remember being on witchtok at the time but I have no idea what happened there other than rumors. So I would love to hear another one of these essays with what happened there. Sounds like an interesting video, but of course it's up to you. ^^
I'm in the witchcraft for decades now, mainly because my mom, because she was deep into witchcraft so it was my kinda everyday situation. So when I started to see strange things and methods that was foreign to me- not that I am actively participating witchcraft, but when you are in this for years, you know the rules. I feel like witchtok and overall interest in witchcraft at that time was a way to make sens and have control of the chaos- they didn'tknow what they were doing so they simply tried. And for me as long as their mental was somehow better, it's okay.
I appreciate you taking the time to explain this. Because at the time I thought it was all just a joke. But now I see the levels of delusion as you break it down piece by piece and I'm just in a total state of shock. Imma come back to this video, this is a lot heavier than I anticipated 15:58
This was a fun watch, big kudos to you for owning your part in it! There are lessons to be learned from this, for sure, as a way to strengthen the community rather than weaken it. Because ultimately, yes, this is 100% why people make fun of us, it also weakens the scene.
I cannot believe this is the first I am hearing about this. Darn this would have been an amazing thing to read about and comment on during the occurrence. I do think it sounds like a viral hoax but if it did occur I do fall into the opinion that it wouldn't work and the deities are likely to have been simply amused. It does sound like a lot of people were incredibly lit-up by it... kinda like feeding a fire and giving people a reason to freak out and be angry. All in all... This was hilarious, you are adorable, and I love your content as usual.
No matter what you said, or how bad it turned out, remember, it will never be as bad as silver ravenwolf telling teenage girls she astral projected and had a conversation with cleopatra bad. Also wanted to add that Apollo is not the god of the sun, and Artemis is not the goddess of the moon. Those would be the Titans Helios and Luna. So i don't what mythology everyone else has been smoking, but it's not the same one the greeks were.
Good point! Thanks for adding on - I will say I did kind of mean in the context of how people were talking about things. I tend to think of them more as solar/lunar energies or gods "of" rather than the Sun/Moon itself! But I appreciate this comment & the clarification. Also 100% depends on the belief set/pantheon.
My biggest question is why a witch would hex the moon in the first place. I was always under the impression that witches liked the moon (granted not a witch, nor in the community).
The entire phenomenon of witchtok is at the same time so fascinating, useful, beautiful and insane. I'm glad that the TikTok witchcraft community has evolved since then (I think). Thank you for sharing this story. It's amusing.
I’m glad that you talked about the aftermath of this event not just the drama of it. The lessons learned, the effect it had on the community is the interesting part to me. The actual event was just much ado about nothing but it still had consequences. This whole story feels very moon tarot card energy to me. Illusions and deception. It feels like someone was teaching the community a lesson. Don’t believe everything you hear. Don’t jump on the bandwagon. Don’t be so quick to react. There was such an explosion of misinformation at that time broadly. I kinda wonder what was going on astrologically then 🤔 that would be interesting to look at.
I was high key at the beach when this whole debacle was going on (it was a small beach and we took precautions against covid by masking, carrying sanitizer, social distancing, etc.) while my friend and I were there we noticed the waves were a lot rougher (as tides are tided to the moon if im remembering correctly don't quote me lol)
I wanna know why someone would try to hex the moon , as someone who works with some Moon Deities (Ex: Artemis, Khonsu , Selene , Nyx (She's a goddess of night but i think it still counts) , ect ) i definitely am curious why. And another thing , witches usually need the moon for things like moon water and especially if their practice revolves around the moon . So I'm gonna hope it never actually happened and was just a rumor.
As an ancient soul i am practicing shaman of Odin with soul ties to the dark fae (do with that what you will) i can assure you the moon is well enough protected by ancient magiks, i do thank you for bringing this to my attention i will take it to the high council on the astral, (if you dont know its a smart idea to figure out how to find them)
Yes, energies are real, & can be interacted with in many different ways. Everything is vibrational, the frequency of the energies. & There is many different labels used for doing so. Manifesting, spell casting, praying, meditation & so on.
- This is very likely not the source. Probably just a coincidence, if not a strange one Honestly back in high school in 2020-2022 (cant remember the year), one of us heard some kids trying to hex the moon and curse the fae, and told the rest of us. We stayed out of it. "Fuck around and find out" and "the moons stronger than what their trying to do" type thing. I didn't know there was a widespread thing about something similar until now. Even when i first heard from my friend, my first thought was that it was people who weren't witches, heard about witchy stuff and wanted to try something extreme like kids trying to summon a ghost at a sleepover type crap. No idea if this is the same incident, probably not, though since this was happening out in the open at school during lunch, it could have been overheard by just about anyone and spread via word of mouth.
i opened up this video, looked at you for a solid 20 seconds, saw your veil and went "THATS HER I KNOW HER" 😭😭😭😭 i watched your tiktoks ALL the time oh my god... i was wondering where you'd gone!
Thank you for explaining this drama! I saw people joking about it, but I didn't found any information about it. I began my witchcraft journey in june 2020 but I didn't see anything about this. Maybe it's for the better, I would have been very confused 😂
I actually started practicing witchcraft and converted to paganism because of your videos in 2020 and it is crazyyyy looking back how witchy social media has changed between now and then.
Tbh I think the most whack situation was in September 2020 the moon started to rust do to the large amounts of hematite on the surface do to oxygen from the earths atmosphere blowing over do to solar winds. which is kinda funny because it’s a protective crystal which most witches know. It was all very coincidental circumstances.
This is why i don't like mixing witchcraft with social media. Too many uninitiated ppl messing around with things they can't even grasp. Not to mention ppl using magic against others for making comments we don't like.
I can so relate, we were all in a state of fear at that time. I think we pissed off nature. Watching the world heal at this time filled me with hope. The moon is taking care of itself. ❤
as someone who was a niche internet microinfluencer on witchtok during this period.. good god.. this wasn’t even the craziest thing to happen (re: the “witchtok” tag getting “hexed” and everyone freaking out, the she-who-must-not-be-named podcaster getting outed as a neonazi, the classic “bringing my demon to work” video, i could go on)
I'm so glad I lost interest in my practice for a span of 3 years while all that was going on. Feels good to know I'm not on the left hand path just because people made it look cool and edgy on tik tok

I could only see her rolling her eyes at the "children". What's wild is that I connected with Her during that year and hadn't heard about any of the witchtok drama because I don't use tiktok. She's one of my matrons.🖤

Now that I have finished the video this whole story makes me think so much about "my immortal" the fanfiction from 2006. Where the mystery of who did it will never be solved and yet many have come out insisting it was them who did this thing everyone hated just for a bit of attention.
I have never heard of this, and now I am gonna do a deep dive.
@@ChaoticWitchAuntoh, find a dramatic reading of it! It's a masterpiece, and you will HATE it. The now nearly two-decade social phenomenon surrounding it is even more fascinating.

Wasn't there a whole hexing the fey thing too???💀💀😭 Also, the thing with people being like "omg something is wrong with the moon" like girl the moon is FIIIIIINNNNEEEEE!!!!💀💀💀💀💀💀
(This was typed before I watched the video)
These bitches looking for a fight huh? It’s one thing to Think that you can hex the moon and come up with what you Think is a good reason to even do that, but THEN you’re going to go start a magic war with the Fey!?!??
Yes there Was also a move to hex the Fae..

Why would someone do this? Kids getting into stuff over their heads.
Lol yes it was hex the moon and hex the fae...I was like....y'all really don't know the fae like that ...this ain't Tinkerbell 😂
I appreciate that!
With certain members of the government trying to bind TikTok in the USA I feel this video will be a historical pieace
TRUE
FINALLY, an EXPLANATION!!
Seriously, thank you
thank you for bringing up your intiial response and taking accountability!
😂❤❤ Glad that craziness lead you here.
@@Chill-mm4pn Thank you so much ❤️🥰 It has been an enriching journey.

God it feels like it was so recent but it’s been four years.
It reached Tumblr as well!
That can actually hurt innocent people
Edit: Thank you for making this informative video, but im gonna have to close out. Im getting physically sick remembering everything that happened because of some immature people trying to LARP chaos into strangers' lives. This was traumatizing for someone with real ancestral roots in magic.
Wow can’t believe it’s been 4 years I remember watching you back then when I was first getting into witchcraft you’ve changed so much :)!
Truly love retrospectives of people who started creating looking back on mistakes they made. It’s very validating.
I can’t imagine that any of this would bode well for anyone in the world at all… thank you for the video & information by the way, I appreciate it 🙏🏻🦋🌊
This was great fun to hear about the drahma, how social media ran with it and the non-event conclusion. Very informative!
Ragebait is quite accurate it seems. (Paused and finished later. lol)
I really appreciate that you did make this video, I think it clears up a lot of what whats happening during this time.
We do. Some are crazy tho
Also it's impossible to 'hex the moon'
The entire phenomenon of witchtok is at the same time so fascinating, useful, beautiful and insane.
I'm glad that the TikTok witchcraft community has evolved since then (I think).
Thank you for sharing this story. It's amusing.
OMG I wasn't aware how big it got until now. Thank you for sharing!
Do more of these PLEASE there's so much witchtok stuff I CLUELESS ON
I was in two different coven discords where someone was like OMG GUY SOMEONES HEXING THE MOON… and we were all like …. Good luck with that
I was high key at the beach when this whole debacle was going on (it was a small beach and we took precautions against covid by masking, carrying sanitizer, social distancing, etc.) while my friend and I were there we noticed the waves were a lot rougher (as tides are tided to the moon if im remembering correctly don't quote me lol)
It somehow bubbled into my feeds this week (reddit). I don't even tic tok, but I was curious. Thank you for an excellently detailed breakdown.
I sent this video straight to my friend who I remember discussing this with. What a throwback
I remember the Hex of '20. Good times LMAO
Never heard of this. I stay away from social media. Does this mean the movie "Moonfall" was NOT a documentary???
So do you think we can blame this hex for the moon rusting? ☝🏻🔴

Yes, energies are real, & can be interacted with in many different ways. Everything is vibrational, the frequency of the energies.
& There is many different labels used for doing so.
Manifesting, spell casting, praying, meditation & so on.
Tik-Toxic. Thank you for doing this to remind everyone what can happen when things run away.
- This is very likely not the source. Probably just a coincidence, if not a strange one
Honestly back in high school in 2020-2022 (cant remember the year), one of us heard some kids trying to hex the moon and curse the fae, and told the rest of us.
Omg!! I completely forgot about this 😭😭😭😭 I'm so ready to watch this. Crazy stuff!!
I think the best part of it was how it question my faith. What would happen if you hexed the moon? It's good to think about weird questions like that
It felt like a whole lesson in information, media, and social literary online and off.
i opened up this video, looked at you for a solid 20 seconds, saw your veil and went "THATS HER I KNOW HER" 😭😭😭😭 i watched your tiktoks ALL the time oh my god... i was wondering where you'd gone!
Thank you for explaining this drama! I saw people joking about it, but I didn't found any information about it. I began my witchcraft journey in june 2020 but I didn't see anything about this. Maybe it's for the better, I would have been very confused 😂
OH my God. I've been waiting for this one 😂❤
Another one was the whole "Zenithrus" deity replacing the other pantheons and hexing those deities from various pantheons LOLOLOL
I actually started practicing witchcraft and converted to paganism because of your videos in 2020 and it is crazyyyy looking back how witchy social media has changed between now and then.
Right!!! Glad my channel provided that space for you though ❤️
I love your content so much! Nice to see you posting!
Seems about as effective as getting in the shower and trying to kick the shower waters ass
This is my favorite comparison.
Looking back on this, as a creator on TikTac back then, I think we all got trolled
I remember watching this go down and thinking wow this has to be bs.
Heyyyyy off topic but I’m begging for a tutorial on how you’ve tied your veil here it’s so pretty 😭
I can so relate, we were all in a state of fear at that time. I think we pissed off nature. Watching the world heal at this time filled me with hope. The moon is taking care of itself. ❤
as someone who was a niche internet microinfluencer on witchtok during this period.. good god.. this wasn’t even the craziest thing to happen (re: the “witchtok” tag getting “hexed” and everyone freaking out, the she-who-must-not-be-named podcaster getting outed as a neonazi, the classic “bringing my demon to work” video, i could go on)
i literally thought the entirety of the world was doomed bc the moon would fight back
I'm so glad I lost interest in my practice for a span of 3 years while all that was going on. Feels good to know I'm not on the left hand path just because people made it look cool and edgy on tik tok
Thank you for creating this video essay!
