      Hello Michael,
I'm glad I came across your channel a few days ago. (Probably because I'm new to Austin.)
I find your background, knowledge and courage ideal to eloquently speak to the good, the bad and the worse across topics. I just subscribed.

🔥 P.S. I noticed your ad on men's underwear. You might want to be more specific about how helpful the "compartments" are for men. This way women buy them for the men in their life. Some food for thought: (nomnomnom 🧠 )
Hayek called Nazism: conservative socialism in Road to Serfdom. Socially conservative and economically socialist.
In Conflict of Visions Sowell argues that Nazism takes elements from both the unconstrained (typically leftish) and constrained (typically rightish) visions.
I wouldn’t call Nazism extreme right (where are property rights?) but also not extreme left either (socially very conservative)
Also watched some of Tiks material on this and defo don’t disagree with his (and your!) points and would be a great guest indeed.

@@StheSharknl when it comes to social matters though would that make all authoritarians “conservative”? In North Korean women and men are only allowed to have certain hairstyles, thats definitely not a “liberal” thing sure, but does that now make Kim Jong Un right wing and conservative?
I just personally think that when it comes to social matters the “left v right” dynamic doesn’t work. At that point it becomes “Authoritarian v Libertarian”
Don’t get me wrong I still love Hayek I just disagree with this point

Great point though, I wouldn’t call North Korea right wing ofc haha but definitely partly conservative which I think is inherent in a dictatorship. They want to conserve their power / safeguard the status quo. @@lukenick2299 "Life" is vague. It's one of the first things most of us learned in basic biology. It's not always simple. I read a great article by a Christian lawyer on the abortion issue. One specific point in the article is the "life begins at conception" isn't really accurate. The sperm and egg are both "living" and are certainly human, so life actually "begins" prior to conception.
But that's kinda my specific point here is that there is no middle ground for the abortion issue anymore because on group wants to define it as murder. They don't want to talk about it, just stop it and prosecute it. If we could talk about issues without trying to outdefine our opponents, we may have a better discussion.

The other side wants to try and hide behind being vague. They won’t have courage for their conviction.

You'd have to be pretty mid to get beaten by Yarvin.

Not sure why this guy is getting so much hate in the comments here. He appears to loathe the political brands and over- reaching govts and has common sense points on a lot of things. Just because the guy may lean a little left culturally doesnt mean he is supports elitism.

I used to think Richard's thoughts were interesting. "If someone wants to do the job cheaper and is better at the job" ... Who fits this category? Cheaper and better? He doesnt understand the modern blue economy. Maybe he's advocating for outsourcing jobs to China, that's what it sounds like

The problem with Richard's entire world view is that's essentially a liberal (democatic) one with a few caveats. He even says he doesn't really take consequences of his views into account, favoring the more libertarian perspective. What the left does is build a world view around their opinion that no other society is better than another and we HAVE TO have equal outcomes whether you like it or not. He's basically taking this world view from a libertarian perspective but then seemingly at random chooses issues to be more conservative on. There's no binding principle to any of it, including libertarianism. It was a weird one to listen to.

For the record, while Scott Alexander sometimes likes to imply he's libertarian when talking about specific issues, he definitely isn't isn't in general. He writes some excellent stuff, but he's not principled or interested/believing in small government as a default.
