    To anyone wondering Purple was the only dye that they couldn’t make in abundance. So the reason only the modern flags have purple in it is because you’d basically be making a flag out of solid gold because of how expensive it was.

      Julius Caesar actually makes perfect sense for "purple": consuls, the highest rank in Roman politics, were the only ones allowed to wear purple mantles, and guess what was Julius Caesar's highest rank? Consul.

    • @sheepy2345
      @sheepy2345 11 месяцев назад +7

      @@KyrieFortune from what i know about roman history (please correct me if i am wrong) but even consuls weren't allowed to wear Purple, Julius Caesar was granted permission to wear Purple whenever he wanted and was even given a golden seat in the roman senate, both of which would be used to justify Julius Caesars Assassination, as some would interpret that as him wanting to be like a king.

    • @aethelflaed6814
      @aethelflaed6814 10 месяцев назад +13

      Everyone is somewhat right! Tyrian purple was the rare and difficult to make dye in question, and is said to have been worn by the Roman kings. During the Republic, it was only used in formal wear for the very highest magistrates, priests, Vestal Virgins, and certain citizen children-but always in the form of a few stripes or similar decorative elements. The only ones allowed to wear the FULL purple toga were generals during their triumphal celebrations.
      This would be presumably what Caesar was indicating with his purple toga, as he and Augustus both leaned on the “triumphant general” imagery in establishing their power. That’s also where the laurel crown comes from. But it also had that royal connotation-which is why generals were ONLY supposed to wear it in the triumph, ie, as king for a day.
      In later years, all-purple togas were adopted by consuls and emperors as all-the-time clothes to indicate their rank, and eventually it was restricted to only the emperor himself. It would remain the “color of royalty” throughout the Middle Ages.
      Everyone also loses, though, because Tyrian purple is actually quite red.

    By rule of tennis law-specifically, the International Tennis Federation, or ITF-a tennis ball should be yellow in color. The edict was handed down in 1972, after television viewers had trouble following the movement of white balls. Manufacturers like Gamma Sports also identify their product as yellow-in Gamma’s case, optic yellow. The reason why some think or perceive it to be green is due to either lightening or lack of lightening or lack of something to contrast it with. So in some ways the hues that they see a tennis ball in could change the way it looks.

    • @osanneart9318
      @osanneart9318 Год назад +27

      It's also got to do with the fluorescent colors. humans have three color receptors (red green and blue) which means that seeing yellow already requires two of your color receptors to accurately see the yellow color (yellow triggers red and green). But if your blue receptor works remarkably well, you will notice the fluorescent shine a bit more, that adds a tiny bit of blueish purple to the color that you see. All three color receptors are triggered, but in different amounts, so your brain makes a lot of estimates and calculations, and no brain is the same. some brains will say that the ball is slightly green, while other perceive it as intensely yellow.
      The dyes used on the ball are undoubtedly yellow, but thanks to the materials, and the eyes and brains of the tennis player, some people still view it as a bit more greenish than intended, while others see it as very very yellow.

    When you think royal purple, you're actually thinking of Phoenicians' Tyrian purple. It became a popular color because at first, purple required collecting thousands of snails and an extreme amount of labor per clothing item, which led to it being extremely expensive, which in turn led to it being a symbol of wealth. It was still only producable via this method for the Greeks and Romans, and after that it just stuck around as being considered royal.

Both of the clues were spot on, because it was a symbol of royalty at different times in history and also was considered the most expensive color to the Romans.
    It was expensive both because it was collected from sea snails (so very labor and resource heavy) and also because it would become more vivid after repeated washings.

    I bought this game yesterday, largely because I saw there was an ep of it on NRB. And the way my family played pretty much is carbon copy of this video XD Mom ended up winning by a large margin because she gave terrible clues but was great at guessing. The clue/cue giver kinda gets the shaft on points during their turn which means there's no incentive to give good clues. Imo it should be played in the opposite where the clue giver gets points based on how close people get to the actual hue, and guessers score one point based on if they're in the frame.
