As a USC fan, I can tell you that in the past that going against a running qb has always been USC’s biggest nightmare. They played well against a running qb in their second game against Utah State. Ironically, that same guy ran wild against them the year before when he played for Utah. This will be a big test for USC’s new defense to see if they are for real.
I’ve been following USC for a minute and remember when our D started getting burned by QB’s like Vince Young. No matter what, we need a spy to watch for those QB runs.
Start Orji. Start Mullings. Stop f*cking around. Alex Orji is averaging 5.8 yards per carry over his last 25 carries (15 in 2023 and 10 in 2024) and Kalel Mullings is averaging 7.5 yards per carry on 36 carries this year. They can work with that against USC as long as they don't turn it over a bunch. Also, they need to get more creative with Donovan Edwards, IMO. Get him out on the perimeter and try to help stretch the defense a little bit while getting more opportunities to make plays in the open field. He had 30 catches last year. I could see him getting 40 or more this year.
As long as they keep the game close having orji in there could work. Fall behind too much ya got to have a guy who can throw the ball down the field. Little dump offs won’t cut it
This QB rhetoric is CRAZY! Give Alex the same grace we gave Davis. Becuz after 1 game I knew Davis wasn’t going to get the job done. But I still gave him a chance.
RPO, Speed option, WR screens, empty backfield, HB screens. Also, Kalel needs to be 1A and Dono needs to move to 1B. Results speak for themselves. Encourage Orji to scramble on broken plays or if no one is open. He can always throw it away on the run. I think God has big plans for Orji. May God bless his season with success on and off the field, and keep him and the team healthy.
I agree 1000% and I've been praying for God to give Orji WISDOM and revelation on how to play his best and for God to enlighten the coordinators to stop handcuffing and crippling the offense with tight end centered play calling and scheme. We need to let WR's get the ball
I expect ANY offense to be creative not just because Alex is starting. The Coaches missed badly telling us it was Alex all offseason then in 2 weeks it was Davis smh. They were about to lose the locker room so they had to make Alex the starter point blank simple. Let the best players play. Not who you want to play.
Exactly. That 1980s base of ground and pound works at times but against top tier teams your vulnerable to losing and making games closer than what they should be. Need to quit handcuffing the OFFENSE trying to hold on to TRADITION crippling the teams ceiling over the years. Orji is better than he's getting credit for and it's going to show this season
Even if Orji can't throw he gives them the same advantage with his ability to run. Orji will keep the LBs honest and ends won't be able to crash on every play like they have been for three weeks. To me I think this will help the line improve and open us the running game for chunk plays more often. Also Moore also said after the game Saturday he was changing QBs this week. I think it is needed and look forward to seeing what Orji can do with his God given talents.

Why is it that year after year, after year, teams like Ohio, Georgia, Alabama, Oregon, and a whole list of other elite teams always have solid QBs. There is no excuse for a historically successful team like Michigan can't get it right .
