Love it! I'm the same I don't bum out because there is a crowd, just think about it, you are able to surf as a past time (or a living), there are people who can't because of certain things or they can't afford it, so fucking enjoy your sessions and smile and wave(s) booys!!!!
I appreciate the Words of wisdom from the 10th prestige surfer. Mason always looks like hes having the most fun. My tips for having the most fun are pretty much the same as Masons but I would add Watching the waves for 5 -10 minutes before paddling out find where the peak keeps breaking and look for shoulders and potential in an out sections. I also find it helpful to count how many waves are in a given set and see if the first wave sets up a good foundation for the second wave and if you have a watch or good internal clock to sync your paddle out with the lull between sets. Identify if there is a channel so you dont have to duck dive more than you need to and waste energy. If you see someone get a good wave cheer them on and let them know how dope their ride was and last but not least as Jamie obrien would say Stay Psyched!!!
I cannot deny the fun he has at his spots and the stoke it shines through into his videos. But when he’s out at a spot he hasn’t surfed as opposed to some regular Joe like me . He’s going to get waves and not dropped in on because of his status , the same doesn’t apply to the rest of us ….. I am not throwing shade just the way I see it ….
