  • Lyrics:
Flight of dragons soar in the purple light
In the sky or in my mind
Flight of dragons sail past reality
    Leave illusion behind
Is it the past I see
When I look up to the heavens
    Believing in the magic
That I know could never be
I want to go where they are going
    Into the world they've been
Can I open up my mind enough to see
    Flight of dragons, heavenly argosies
Catch the wind, rise out of sight
Flight of dragons, pilots of fantasy
In the sky or in my mind
    Flight of dragons
    Flight of dragons

"The Flight of Dragons" is an actual book written in 1972 by a real person actually named Peter Dickinson. It is speculative natural history. He genuinely suggested that dragons could have been real and speculates on how their flight would work, and why there is no fossil evidence.

    • @zazelby
      @zazelby 6 лет назад +22

The "mechanics" of the dragons were based on "The Flight of Dragons", but the movie's plot was loosely based on the 1976 novel "The Dragon and the George", by Gordon R. Dickson, which is also where most of the characters come from. (The main difference is that its hero decides to stay in the fantasy world at the end, along with his wife, leading to a ton of sequels that were never made into films, though there are plenty of other differences as well)

I don't remember what channel I saw it on but I think it had co-op work by the same people that did Walking with Dinosaurs. A young dragon was found in conditions not too different that some mammoths were preserved. Where they went over the "how" they might have had real flight & fiery breath.

Had this on VHS when I was a tiny kid. Might still have it somewhere. I came here after having just finished watching it tonight for what felt like the first time. What a shock to watch something with such nostalgia but it was refreshing too, I was soo little when my brother and I would play it over and over. I had no idea what it was ever really about, almost felt like a long-cherished dream I was able to relive so vividly. Understanding it now for the first time, my appreciation for this film is immeasurable. And its actually really good!

When I lived in apartments when i was a kid, there was a Hastings just walking distance. My mom and I wouod walk there and if be allowed to get a few movies. Every time I saw this sitting there ,I snatched that VHS up. I never got tried of it.

We had this taped off TV, I wore that cassette out. I have a newer copy, but have heard bad reviews of the blu ray (remastered but poorly cropped for widescreen). I wish WB would give it the love it deserves!!!

I had it on VHS and wore the tape out. Such a definitive part of my childhood. Wish I was that kid again... safe in the knowledge that magic was real and what I wrote down would always be there.

I picked the vhs of this up at a car boot sale (flea markets in the u.s i think) when I was around 7 years old and it absolutely blew my mind,I think i may actually still have it somewhere, even though I no longer own a vhs player 😆

YESSSSSS....today is my mom's birthday. She would've been 65 (#fuckalzheimers). She loved dragons, and this film, and so I love it too.
