Correction - The classical dance performed in the film is Bharatnatyam and not Kathak. Apologies for the error 🙏

Three of Us is not about the three lead characters, it is about the Past, Present and Future of Shailaja

Great take on the clock theory, it actually makes sense. Three of us was like poetry for me, some lines hit so hard, some will make more meaning with experience and understanding. It's a film that will grow as you grow - something what In The Mood For Love has done for me always. It hits different everytime I see it.
    Loved the video essay.

Your essay, the way you analysed the film and presented in this video is so calm and satisfying. I wish the video was longer.

    I observed 2 scenes
One inside temple were 2 School kids pass bewteen sailaja and pradeep
One scene were pardeep was sticking saree he sees outside and kids go on cycle
This 2 secens are just like thier past how they lived in vengulura
Many times 2 kids are shown in the film

Not every classical dance is Kathak. 😛 The dance being performed in that school was Bharatanatyam. Specifically they were dancing to a Thillana (I did not learn enough to gauge whether the steps themselves were authentic Thillana). Shailaja and Pradeep even have a conversation about whether her son was named Bharat after the dance or the country and she mentions BHAva RAga TAla which make up the name Bharatanatyam.

I was also writing a script to try to explain "Three of Us" from my point of view when this video came along and helped me understand the scenes even better.
    Thanks Paurush.

I guess "three of us" is 3 different versions of Shailaja herself. One from the past, one who she was in Mumbai and lastly one of her versions is the one who is revisiting Vengurla at present.

    Hey loved your perspective
I think the movie is also narrates about the changes in life that we are not hold of
The changes that we can't do nothing actively about its just we can adopt it
And I think last Sean was about that the shailaja just face the trigger of the cascade by eliminating the fear and visiting the well in which venu fell

was that old lady by the sea shore a figment of shailja's imagination?

Superb explanation and great analysis .. amazing breakdown of the movie ... but I am still curious about one scene about the old witch lady and Shailja conversation in the hut ... didn't understand that scene .

That was a symbolism. It was her alter ego. 'tune yaad rakha, isiliye main zinda hoon'. If u don't let this go, I will stay. 'fir ana' - u are free to get bk into the same pattern of ur comfort zone. And I will lure you. Where u can cry. But she chooses to let it go. Life is about knowing what to hold on to, and what to let go, and it's not necessary that it will be comfortable. So that's was the meaning wd this line.
The best cue in the scene is- 'maine wo angoothi di thi, kahan hai?' - shailaja
'samandar se do aadmi aye the, meri taraf, maine wo angoothi nikal k zor se unke taraf feik di. Wo wahin rukk gye.' - old lady.
      .
Ab iska Sundar mtlb, Im leaving upon you to understand & hopefully you will.
