    What I did was get a longer drain tube and drain it in front of the passenger side rear tire. You can buy a 10-foot section of half inch clear tube for less than 10 bucks on Amazon. When it comes to the oil filter you always use a couple of shop towels underneath it to catch any oil.

    • @theinternets7516

    Under the Deck: Highly recommend a product called AMSOIL Mudslinger ' spray under your deck, it drys in 15 minutes and grass and mud will make cannot cling; cleanup much simpler ! It works !

    Hey, I just found your video. I am pretty sure my video is the one you are talking about and I totally agree with you on the oil. 10w 40 is actually what my dealer recommended for this engine, which is not the right oil. I never remember what oil to put in it and so I always ask at the dealer when I purchase the oil and they have actually recommended me the wrong oil again just yesterday. They suggested 10w 50! So, I guess I need a new dealer. Thanks for this video!

    I have the exact same mower. Hustler Raptor SD 60" cut. Kohler 26 HP engine. I found the Kohler 10w-30 oil and filter at my local Walmart store. Tractor supply sells it also. One thing I was wondering. Why are you just changing the oil after a year? I was told to change it at 15 hours and then every 30 hours afterwards.

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516  5 лет назад

      The owner's manual says first change at 50 hours and after that every 100 hours or 1 year, whichever is first. I put right at 50 hours a year on mine so it worked out that it got changed for the first time at the one year mark and since then once a year. I see a lot of guys on the Hustler owners Facebook page say they do the first change at 5-10 hours and that's not a bad idea but I don't think I've done any damage to it by waiting till 50. It starts easy and runs great. For my next one (in 15 or 20 years) I'll probably do a 10 hour break in oil change just to be on the safe side but I really don't think it's going to make much difference so long as it's getting regular changes throughout it's service life. If it had really done that much damage I think I would have noticed in out it runs at this point. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@theinternets7516 I was going by what the dealer told me on the oil change intervals. 15, then every 30. I never actually read it in the manual. Probably the dealer wanting more money spent on service there, but I do my own service. I wish the manufacture had placed a drain pan with drain hole under the filter. It makes a mess when changing it.

      I just looked at my owner's manual.
      It says to change the oil at 5 hours, then according to the engine manufacturers recommendations. I have the KT745-3056 Kohler 26hp engine.

      @@theinternets7516 Usually takes approx. 10-15 hours to break one of these small engines in; you definitely do not want to do an oil change prior to this because if it's not fully broke in and you decide to go to a high quality synthetic oil and it's not broke in, you may have problems getting it broke in at that point.

    My fender, on the right side cracked and kept cracking, so I put a big washer over the top of the hole and bolted it back down, it holds fine now. It must be from the mower flexing in use or something. My mower is 5 years old now, and other then the right front tire going flat on me, which I fixed with a quater of a bottle of Slime, and the fender cracking, it has been a AWESOME mower. I'm so glad I bought it. Two of my neighbors bought high end ZTR's and had them both in the shop, more then they mowed with them. A Exmark and a John Deere. They thought, because they only saw it from a distance, that I had a Cub Cadet. When they actually SAW my mower and realized it wasn't a Cub Cadet, they were so impressed with the quality and the price, that they both went and bought Huslters. My brother has a Hustler that is over 20 years old, and has been an excellent mower for that whole time. That is what convinced me to check them out and buy one. I bought mine from a dealer, it's a Raptor SD 48, with the Kawasaki FR691V, 23 HP. I got it for $4,001.80. Excellent Mowers for the money. Commercial grade at a residential price.

    Back the mower up onto auto ramps. Make the... drivers side (for lack of a better definition) a little higher then pinch the fuel line on the side of the tank of the filter closed and remove the fuel filter. This would be the perfect time to install a small shut off valve under the seat for future use. That gets the fuel line out of the way. Drain the oil. It makes things easier. Open end wrench works better than socket for the drain. Once loose, your fingers can turn it. Then open it all the way. Remove the oil filter. Let all the oil drain at the same time. Change air filter. Once that is done, install new oil filter, close oil drain, remove oil hose and wipe up oil mess. Install new fuel filter and reattach fuel lines and fill with fresh oil. All done. Don't forget to turn on the new fuel valve. Doing the hydro's isn't that hard also. It's two drains. Two filters. One on each side. Really simple.

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516  5 лет назад

      Having the mower on a bit of a tilt is a really good idea. I had the dealer do the hydros because I didn't want to risk doing it wrong. They charged like $200 to do it though so I may give it a try next time. As far the maintenance goes I went ahead and made sure everything was done and it was ready to go about month ago so I wouldn't have to try to find time to do it in early June which is when it would be hitting the hour marks for recommended maintenance. Thanks for watching and for the detailed reply. That will definitely be helpful.

      @@theinternets7516 Ouch. If you can change oil, you can do the hydros. It's actual oil. 50 weight oil. 20w50. I run Synthetic in everything now. The only thing is at the end with the back wheels in the air you let the wheels turn so you can let the air out of the system. There are vids on how to do it. It's not hard. Oh, change everything more often than the dealer and the manual says. Oil and filters are cheap. New motors aren't.

    Check that black cross brace at the bottom between the transmissions. A symptom of it cracking or bolts breaking off it that the frame twists and breaks the fender plastic, just like yours. Hustler came out with a much beefier brace a short time ago and you should be able to get it under warranty.

    • @theinternets7516
      @theinternets7516  5 лет назад

      I don't think they will void the warranty over a 2 hour discrepancy in the owners manual guidelines and when the maintenance is performed. That's well within reason. I have followed the owners manual maintenance guidelines to a T more so in the interest of the longevity of the machine than concern over the warranty. I appreciate the advice though. After reading posts from commercial mowers and homeowners with many more years experience than I have I will do a 5-10 hour break in change in the future but seeing as how I haven't had any issues out of this engine I think it's probably safe to do what I did but with something expensive like this it's always better to be on the safe side. The oil change is a lot cheaper and easier than replacing the engine. Thanks for watching and commenting!
