sadly the Champlin Fighter museum is no more, but I did get to see it before it was shutdown and the planes sold out west. it had a one of a kind, last one in existence Austrian WW1 fighter with a polished brass radiator, absolutely beautiful.
Me to I am so glad that i got to see it before it closed. I saw it back in the 90's, I even talked with a man who was in his 90s and was part of the ground crew during WW1, he was fascinating.
At 0:25 I honesty expected him to say the old punchline: "For your information those Fokkers were Messerschmitts"! I have heard it so many times. This is a great record thank you... what a hero, and you are privileged enough to have met him. I am researching the flying of these aircraft for a short film. Thoughts to the brave, may they rest in peace.
I made scale 1/8 detailed models of the SE5 and the Sopwith Camel used by George Vaughn. These models have both been used from 2014 till 2018 in the Passendale museum at Zonnebeke ( Belgium ) for the 100 year aniversary celebration of WW1. I also have his biography and books about the planes Vaughn has used and crasched and about the life of the squadrons involved. These were herous and craftsmen of aviation. I spent a day there in the summer of 1992. An incredible place. Shot a lot of video. It's a shame it is no more.

I wish I had a time machine.
Tough guy. Back then, if one were shot down...well, they did not have parachutes.
