I HATED HATED HATED Anette in Nightwish. It just didn't fit her voice or style. They shoehorned her into Tarja's musical style and it didn't fit at all. Jani's Sonata Arctica style fits Anette so much better. These songs were written for her voice without being to poppy. This to me is the ultimate Anette musically. Its brought me a new found respect for her and this album is one of my favorites now. I love Floor shes my all time favorite female singer but this Dark Element album was better than the newer NIghtwish album by far. Bravo Jani and Anette!

Every song is exploring the things we as humans do when we trip up, get stuff wrong, endure pain, loss, suffering, sadness. That element of evil we have not cos people are inherently bad but because we are all victims of circumstances, sometimes beyond our control which shapes who we are as we go on through life.

After hearing this whole album I have decided that it is Alyson Avenue with bite. That I think is a very good place for Anette Olzon to be be as it emphasizes her best elements and allows her to just run with that. For a 1st album I rate this a solid 10. This is no wannabe start up band trying to get up and going. This is a band of battle tested veterans and it totally shows. NO SCARS HERE, this woman has indeed "stormed her sorrow". Since Simone Simons is her best friend these days, that term is totally apros pos. I hope this band lasts a long time and gives all of us the Anette "fix" we so long have been starved for.

This sudden development is clearly the single biggest news of 2017 hands down. For years I + how many million others have pulled for and prayed for this woman to raise from the ranks of the vanquished and rejoin the ranks of the fem metal voices. This album is different and is definately a rock style which is very known and popular in Sweden. There are traces of rust here and there such as sound mixing issues on My Sweet Mystery that drown her out by the band, but overall this has all the possibilities of something really really good going forward and I am totally behind that & her! So far this may end up being the #2 fem metal album this year after the EPICA one. How great is that????? Now if only we could manage to have Ailyn land with a band.......hmm.

I was beginning to lose hope that people would ever get over the whole tarja/anette/floor thing. As many other people have already said, i believe this album is much better than Endless Forms Most Beautiful! Anette will always be one of my all time favorite singers.

Nightwish peaked with Imaginarium . Endless forms wasn't terrible just not as catchy as Imagine. This sounds like the Album that should have been made after Imaginarium with some added Killer Guitar riffs. Love this just hope it's not a one and done.
I wouldn't say Endless Forms was terrible, but it certainly didn't do anything new, it felt more like a continuation of Imaginarium, with a different subject matter. All in all - unfortunately rather forgettable.
i don't like to compare, each one of them has their own style, and nightwish work just fine in every one era, what i didn't liked about Annette was her very forced voice and the reason was more the fans then the band, i mean everyone wanted to hear tarja's voice, and seriously if tuomas would of wanted another soprano he wouldn't pick Annete!!! anyway, when Annette try to do it by her self i thought "well this is nice" she was more confident and her voice sound very free, very calm it was really nice, and now wow! she sounds great, not with the NW stress, not with the fans breathing on her neck as if she needed their approval, she is being herself right now and sounds amazing.... I'm totally following this i love it!!!

It's amazing how 4 chord progressions packed in metal choruses make people say this song has more heart than other bands. The 4 chord chorus was made for that exact reason. Not that I complain.

I have both the first 2 CDs of AA with Anette as lead vocalist. This is definitely Melodic in nature with as you said alittle metal.

That is well done usage of classic 4 (chords) - Nothing wasted. Unlike any other songs that just use those to add some harmony... The voice matters.
