Random fun fact: historically, it wasn't that they weren't interested in marrying - on the contrary the princesses were quite keen to find a husband, but George and Charlotte were reluctant to marry them off.
It’s actually kind of sad, George was deaf, blind and so mentally unwell that he didn’t even register that his beloved wife had died. Their whole marriage was so much more tragic in real life, because they had about two decades of incredibly happy marriage before he began to slip into his mental health issues. The first notable sign that something was wrong was that he began speaking salaciously to a lady of the court; he had previously been so privately and publicly devoted to Charlotte that he refused to take a mistress, which was the done thing at the time. I can’t imagine what the situation was like for her.
I still find it interesting how within the span of a few years we had one portrayal of King George where you were supposed to laugh at him (Hamilton), and then a few years later we get this show, where he rips your heart out because you care so much.
Well, it certainly reflects that he was a flawed man. He was very devoted to his wife and family oriented, almost unheard of back then for someone his status. He was a kind and simple soul who unfortunately suffered a lot in his lifetime, physically and emotionally. He was also a colonialist and helped cause more suffering of the native Americans. He believed wholeheartedly that the colonies were the property of the United Kingdom, refused to give them up. He also wanted to privatize and hoard tons of farm land in the UK exclusively to the rich (much of that land had been in people's families for generations). He was very much like many of us, having a grayscale personality rather than black and white, or simply being "good" or "bad"

The eldest George consummated his marriage and never saw his wife again. He also banned her from his coronation. The throd son gave us the future Queen Victoria. It was the younger children who were more mellow while the first four were terrors.
Shonda was not going for historical accuracy. She was going for entertainment. I believe George and his wife, Caroline of Brunswick loathed each other on sight. People actually loved Caroline more than the royal family and George spent forever trying to divorce her.
