  • Delve with us into the compelling biblical evidence for the Millennial Kingdom! Drawing from an array of biblical prophecies and scholarly interpretations, Levi Hazen examines key scriptural passages, historical contexts, and theological perspectives that collectively underscore the anticipation of Messiah's thousand-year reign on Earth as outlined in Revelation 20. During this exciting time, the nation of Israel will experience spectacular spiritual blessings, and this chosen nation will also be a blessing to the world. Why did none of the apostles leave a written record of the Kingdom-related teachings provided by Jesus after His resurrection? One would think that kind of information would be worth preserving for future generations of the Church. Instead, the end of the Gospel of Luke and the beginning of the Book of Acts leave out the details of Jesus's teachings. The Book of Acts picks up at the very end of Jesus's lesson, with the apostles asking Him, "Lord, will you now restore the Kingdom to Israel?" to which He responds, "The timing is not for you to know" (1:6-7). At the risk of sounding irreverent, I must say that the apostles dropped the ball by not committing Jesus's Kingdom teachings to writing! I'm aware that we have the Kingdom-related material throughout the Old Testament, especially the Book of Isaiah, but a lot of confusion about the timing and essence of the Millennial Kingdom could've been quashed if the apostles had written down Jesus's words about it.

Thanks for your thoughts. You had some interesting points. I should say that we at Life In Messiah believe that God was behind each and every word that was included in the Old and New Testaments, so whatever was included is, to us, exactly what God wanted there. But what is neat is that Jesus did speak of the millennial kingdom. Here are some examples:
Matthew 19:28 says: "So Jesus said to them, 'Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.'" This "regeneration" is the time after His return, as it says: "For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first." (1 Thessalonians 4:16) So, Jesus comes back, dead believers resurrect, and then Jesus reigns. And then the disciples, having resurrected, will get to be wise and loving governors over their people, the Jewish nation.
Luke 22:29-30 adds more details: "And I bestow upon you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” Matthew 8:11 speaks of a great feast that will take place during the millennial kingdom, saying: "And I say to you that many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven."
There are more, and it's quite exciting to see. Perhaps the clearest of the New Testament passages regarding the millennial kingdom is Revelation 19:11-21:5. This gives the timeline from the moment Jesus returns, through the 1,000-year reign of Jesus on earth, and then onto what is called "the new heavens and new earth" in chapter 21. This aligns perfectly with what Peter said regarding the time when this world has to end. He said:
"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells." (2 Peter 3:10-13)
So, the timeline taught in the Bible seems to start with Jesus' return, Jesus reigns over Israel and the Jewish people turn to Him and spiritually flourish, Jesus reigns for 1,000 years on earth, then the earth and cosmos pass away (having become old and ready to be renewed), and God makes a new earth and cosmos where the old curse of sin is no more. Pretty exciting!
      Any more thoughts?
