Just bought a used Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 Art and found a decent amount of dust behind the glass - thought I was screwed. Thanks for the video and helping me avoid paying to have it cleaned!
Bought this lens last week and my first job was in a VERY dusty warehouse -- it naturally breathed in a tonne of dust and I was freaking out a little. I followed this video and blew out ALL the dust so easily, thank you SO much. Will happily do this as and when I need to. Sucks about the dust issue but this is a great fix and still a great lens to choose over the GM and Tamrons. Thanks!
Was yours the updated one with the serial numbers beyond 5504xxxx? Is there any differences in the components from the video? They say they updated the seals, but if the components of front element are the same I don't see how they manage to solve the dust problem. And I'm getting mixed messages from other forums.
This costed me $500 when I sent my lens to Sigma to clean the dust. I had no idea how easy it was to do it myself. Thanks for this video! Also nice to know that Sigma lied to me and told me my front glass element was faulty when apparently a lot of these lenses have this issue.
THANK YOU!!!! My hero, my lifesaver! It totally worked! I had some difficulty putting it back together because of the tiny spacers not lining up at first, but finally found the solution. I need to do the same for the Sony 100-400 mm F4.5, but can't find any tutorials on it.
Thank you for this video! I don’t have this lens, but the Leica 24-70mm F2.8 (Japan) that has been suspected of being this Sigma lens in a Leica body. Well guess what? I had the same dust issue with the “Leica” and interesting enough it’s front element is removed EXACTLY like the Sigma. It looks identical, including the ring that you pry out, the screws, and even the spacers. Mine only had one spacer total. So I was able to clean it out, thanks!
The problem may be this ... I read a lot of things about this lens in several forums, and I saw all the cleaning videos about her on RUclips. And I also saw some reviews talking about that some users removed these metal parts, and they had no more dust problems. I realized that in one of the lenses had only one piece of metal, in another video they had two. I believe that these parts are to calibrate the front element in relation to the rest of the lens, and they probably leave spacing for dust. Anyone there who has removed these pieces noticed some depreciation in the quality of the photo?
Great video, I guess this is a common problem with this Sigma lens. I just bought a used one and I thought that I inspected it carefully but I recently noticed dust inside the lens. I'll give this a try. Thanks for sharing.

very good, advice. This lens is so fantastic and such a disappointment at once. I had multiple copies with serious issues- very high LoCA, one was super soft when wide open but had no LoCA issues, the last one was fine with some LoCa but I decided to keep it. Couple weeks later I'm still within return period and although barely used, there's already dust inside. Come on Sigma, what's going on- I had some older Sigma zooms which were incredible. Makes me worried about this lens...If I have to return it again, I'll be heartbroken but have to go for tamron on 28-75. It's far from being as nice but at least it has no quality issues...
Same here. I just got my first copy and it seems that it's very blurry wide open in close range, but I researched a little and it seems that this is normal. There was already dust inside it when I received it, unbelievable. But I just keep it now and I cleaned it with this very helpful video. I'm tired of being beta-tester...
@@drakedoggy103 my friend has one and it’s fantastic in every way. I circled through 5 copies probably and each had a serious issue. Sigma should recall these dusty lenses and install the proper fix. This is the last Sigma lens I am buying you lost a customer Sigma. Not worth the hassle, every time I have to pay to get it shipped to be cleaned also I recieved my lens back and it was scratched.
It’s pretty sad cause this is such a amazing lens, out performing the 24-70 GM (of course the gm is a bit old now), but cost and quality wise it’s so good. Shame. Until they fixed the dust problem I will not buy this lens.
@@thedude1590 I agree image quality is amazing sad this lens is made in Japan and it is so poorly made. A lot of these RUclipsrs are too scared to admit this lens has a defect. Definitely stay away from this Sigma Dusty lens.
hey man , was your copy above the serial 5564 ? wanting to pick 1 up saw that above the serial the issue was supposedly fixed
@@bensonaw3251 yes it’s below 5564 mine was 5552xxxxx but either way I recommend you stay away from this lens until V2 comes out or save up for the new Sony 24-70 GM. Here’s what RUclipsrs are not telling you the new Sony AF with linear motors is faster at focusing. Even Tamron new Linear motors are faster than this, It’s not worth saving a few bucks to deal with so much hassle. Bdw my lens was serviced in New York Sigma.
oh dang, thanks for the reply ! will stick around to check out the new gm lens
For what do you apply those white stripes?
for mark original position of parts before disassembly.
Mateusz Mikolajczyk does it have an influence how you put the front glass back on again? Also what screwdriver are you using for removing the screws i.e. what size? :)
@@khagesh7530 I have no idea, so just in case I've put back front glass in the same position. "ph00" screwdriver.
Mateusz Mikolajczyk Thanks! :) But honestly I think it's a shame that this lens seems prone to dust issues although Sigma clarifies it as dust proof...
Khagesh it is not dust proof is dust resistant which is two different things.
😢😢very fast dusty again....
ok it's pretty simple to clean but i won't buy this lens.
Missing out tbh
this lens is the one i would carry if i could bring just 1 lens
I will not be buying this lens, thank you
@@sonacphotos other people are saying it still wasn’t fixed with the latest serial number
Thank you!
