I've already gotten several questions/comments about this, so I figured I'd state it publically.... yes, I'll be filming me transitioning over to the new bag! Then next month I'll be filming my annual freelance kit tour :)
Love this!! I’ve had the backpack for about 6 months and love it. I wasn’t sure at first because it’s so deep and seems a bit more bulky but it’s so easy to carry around and sooooo many pockets to store things!!
I absolutely love you! you are honest, clear and so inspiring. Thank you for sharing all the knowledge you have learnt in your journey with us. I am always learning new things when I watch your videos. I trust you and always look forward to watching your content. I wish you all the best, you deserve it ❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi Portia! Being a freelance artist is a lot of hard work, but such a rewarding career in so many different ways. You will love it! Hopefully this video helped you decide what makeup case to use :)
I switched to the backpack this fall after using the XL bag. Best decision I ever made for carrying my kit, chair, and light at once. Now I keep a smaller relevel with my individual brush pouches and hand sanitizer but all my product is in the backpack (I also did a lot of depotting). I keep alcohol wipes in the side for easy sanitization!
Thank you so much for sharing McKenzie!! I’m so glad to know that I made the right choice :) having a backpack like this makes it SO much more convenient!!
Yes a backpack is definitely way more convenient and better to carry around :) As for colors, I personal carry black bc it doesn’t show dirt as often and looks more professional. That’s why makeup artist wear black as well just in case we get things on us.
Amazing content as always. Thank you for taking the time to create content that are so helpful to those working in the industry. P.s. I have the Mac bag (the dupe version I found on Amazon) but I use it for my bridal/special occasions hair kit. I have the Relavel for my makeup kit.
You are so welcome Ana! I always wished I had content like this when I first started so anything I can do to help out other artists is a must :) I do like my MAC bag, but I just use it as a toiletries bag for vacations now!
I think I found the next kit bag I'm getting. I had a rolling train case and it broke an spilled out all over the street downtown, in the bad part of town, while it was raining.. I've been using a mixture of 3-4 bags since (depending if I need my hair kit) and it is taking a toll on my shoulders and is soo bulky! Definitely getting the backpack.
Hi Hailey! Oh no I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you. Yes the backpack has been a life saver. Just know that it is definitely smaller than a normal case. I made a video after this one of me organizing it and had a tough time getting everything to fit. I still have to carry a separate backpack with it especially if I do hair.
@@julieruby Thanks! Yea, I watched that video, I love how you organize everything so I needed to see your new setup lol. I don't have a huge amount of products in my kit at the moment so at least for now I think it'll be perfect, I don't do hair very often anyway, so I don't mind keeping that seperate if I need too.
I had that Shany case and I was working in Atlanta on set. I did many production gigs and it was SUPER heavy. I had a production event of a few days and had to take escalators and this whole case fell and rolled all over the escalator down the stairs 😂😂😂 I yelled soooo loud thought my kit was RUINED. Security came because they thought someone fell. Good thing nobody was infront of me so nobody was injured. I had glass bittles and everything and Everything was jn tact. This case is high high quality but is not safe to travel. It’s good to have it a makeup studio stationary but is WAYYYYY tooo heavy. I was so embarrassed when this happened 😂 but so happy nothing broke. I also had so many issues carrying it when going to bridal parties or hotels. It’s a struggle to carry ANYWHERE. But the drawers and all compartments are very nice to have. But I ended up giving it away because ended hating the case.
I love this backpack. I am having Large size bag similar to relavel . I have depotted my foundations and lipsticks. Going to start as a makeup artist this year. And It's hard to find the perfect bag. Here in India, this bag cost ~15K on amazon.in can't afford that much for starting out. Nice Idea though, so I am going to use a normal shoulder backpack for eyeshadow palettes, skincare, and other stuff in pouches. Love you, Julie.
I definitely understand not being able to start off with a bag that's pricy so do what fits your budget! As you may have seen in the video, I had 3 bags before so once you get more clients you can work up to it :) Good luck with your new career this year! I'm sure you'll love being a makeup artist!
Always good content Julie! I also like a lot of makeup artist have the Relavel Extra Large Makeup Case. They are by far the best case for a MUA. I had a Shanty rolling case but mine was faux leather, much easier to clean. Did not know they had a backpack. Curious how it goes and hope to hear a update on it. I will say save your shoulders and back and look into getting a folding luggage cart.
Thank you so much! Yes Relavel is honestly the best :) I’ll be doing a video when I transition over and I’ll give an update when I use it a little more! I am trying not to have anything that wheels around since I have had to travel up stairs numerous times but it’s definitely handy for some people!
Hi Janine! I'll be filming my process of me transferring everything over to it this weekend. Then next month I'll be uploading my full freelance kit tour :) I usually do one every year!
I’m a pro MUA from London, and I have to travel for TV work with both my hair and makeup kit. When I’m working in London I use the Trolley/backpack version which fits both my hair and makeup it’s quite heavy but I am usually in a car so it’s not too bad to carry. However sometimes I have to use train now and I bought the backpack version to see if it would make travelling easier with my kit on my back and rolling my personal suitcase but to have the backpack fit both hair and makeup it’s tooo heavy! I think the backpack is a better choice just for makeup or hair. I don’t know how some of you guys do it but it’s so heavy for me 😢 Julie, do you have any suggestions on how to carry both hair and makeup that’s not bulky and too heavy? 🙈
That’s good that you’ve found a bag that works for you!! I think that as long as you are carrying both hair and makeup, no bag is going to be able to solve the weight issue. It is what it is at that point because the majority of the weight and bulk is purely the products and tools itself.
How did you carry around the Relavel XL bag? I find it too heavy to carry even when its not fully loaded and i already carry my hairstylist kit on my back😅
I thought about the Zuca at the time when that was all ppl could talk about, but I do better without rolling cases :) the backpack has been super handy!
Hi July! Love your videos like always 💖. Like I said in DM, I love the backpack that I use since the past year. Very convenient juste be awar it is not possible for the bag to be completly stable because of the bagstraps. But for me, it's a detail but some MUA's didn't like it because of that reason 🤷
Thank you so much! The name is Julie by the way (not sure if it autocorrected or not lol). I’ve actually heard that from other artist that I’ve talked to about the bag straps. I’ll definitely just have to be a little more careful with it :)
Used to have the black makeup cases I used to love it but never went out to do freelance because I'm way to shy to do it and ended up selling them now I regret it
Don’t be hard on yourself! We all have done things in our lives that we regretted but I always think that things happen for a reason. Maybe you weren’t supposed to go down that path and life will direct you where you are meant to go :)
I have been contemplating on getting the Relavel backpack since it came out. But I worry about the depth of the inside and the weight of it when it's filled and my back. I see so many mixed reviews. I currently use the relavel XL and just wheel it around on a mini dolly.
Hi Crystal! I completely understand that concern! Relavel also has one identical but it's a backpack and has wheels :) Maybe that would work better for you!
I do the same! I tried the back pack it was exactly what you said. HUGE and bulky. I just use dolly and carry back pack with brush sets, and my keys. phone ect.. so much easier.
Hi! I think the only way you’d be able to get them out is by using a z potter or something similar. I personally repress all my shadows but it’s a lot harder and more time consuming than just using an electric heater.

It would be cool to see a turning a roller backpack into a makeup case or even a suitcase turned into a mini on the go vanity😮😍♥️
Hi Marissa! Relavel does have the backpack I have with wheels if that's what you're talking about :)
Just purchased mine now thanks to your video 😊👍🏼❤️

Yes! I’ll definitely be filming an update later on :)
Ooooh please record the organization of the new bag! 😍
Yes I will for sure! Doing it this weekend :)
I use the xl relavel but am still in school. Love it so far, I like the fact I can put it on a table, open it and start working out if it.
It's such a great bag! I wish I had started with it, but at the time I didn't know how I worked as an artist. The functionality of it is great :)
Looking forward to see your new kit 💖💖💖 Thanks!
I'll definitely be filming the transition this weekend! :)
I prefer the backpack which is more healthier to carry than a bag . Bu how about the colorful stuff? Just black ones depress me :D

Haha I’m honestly not sure!!! It was really heavy on one shoulder though. That’s why I switched to the backpack.
Have you seen the new one what has 4 wheels? I just got it, but I’m worried about the size.
Yes I have but I’m afraid it would be too heavy or bulky! Hopefully you like it!
I might probably transition to bag pack, im currently using zuca sports rolling bag and its too bulky.
I thought about the Zuca at the time when that was all ppl could talk about, but I do better without rolling cases :) the backpack has been super handy!
Super helpful!
So glad to hear that, Alicia! Hopefully this helped you decide on a makeup bag :)
Hello do you think the backpack would be good for a nail artist
Hi! Yes I feel like it would be. You could put your tools on top and the inserts would be great to organize polishes :)
Do you know if the backpack is bigger than the large case?
The XL is bigger than the backpack in size but the backpack is deeper :)

I own the backpack. It can be tough zippering the corners up and I 🙏 pray that the zipper doesn't bust. I like it otherwise.
Thanks for sharing that! I'm definitely condensing a little more to carry less so that's a good thing to consider.
