Must-watch drama! The Marquis didn't appreciate his wife and the writers gave us a smart, talented FL character that wasn't taking crap. He learned at the end he had a jewel but it was too late. Love, love this plot. Production crew, great job! However, special kudos to the writers for giving us a smart FL character! Well on to the next one!
But is that the end? Seemed kinda open-ended. I would have loved to see the FL and ML with their kids as a happy family.

First time seeing the story told after the divorce, it was awesome. With a happy and retribution ending...on to the next!!!

Right? I love how they 'tricked' their dad into accepting FL as a wife for the prince.
I love how the FL had such a great support system. Her parents, the prince, the princess, and her ex BIL. Even her faithful maid was supportive. Her inlaw family was just horrible. She was treated as a mobile ATM. The Marquis kept adding new family members but didn't have the funds to support them. Even the addt'l concubine was nice but she was pregnant along with the co wife. I don't know how they could humiliate and abuse the FL if she was holding the pursestrings. The Marquis never had any type of relations with the wife nor any communication but he saddled her with his border wife and 2 almost 3 kids and told her to be reasonable and deal with it all. No post it memo, courier, or smoke signal. He disrespected her and her family. They are a ricj merchant family with friendly ties with the royal family. Curry favor with them should have been law #1. It's amazing how the royal family didn't look down on the FL and her family but the poor general's family derided them. Ever version of this drama gets better with meaner karma inflicted on the Hou Mansion clan. To know that the FL coupled up with a Prince way after divorcing her lowly, ungrateful general is definitely leveling up. That's true karma!

They really need to be better about the endings.
Very typical plot, with some nice twists. I really liked her maternal family and maid, the second concubine was smart and cute which was a nice contrast to the villains. She wasn't scheming against the FL, she just tried to live following the customs (a woman's innocence is extremely important and she has to marry a good family and give birth), she even pointed out how the FL was strong and knowledgeable. At the end, you can see her ambition and that's not a bad thing. She didn't cross any bottom lines, didn't anger the main couple and being smart enough to protect yourself as a woman in a ancient china is hard enough. I thought the ML pretenting to become a monk so the FL would marry him and put pressure on his family to allow it was funny. Overall, not bad. FL was strong and didn't tolerate people disrespect once her husband returned with a new woman.

Very well-cast. The writers managed to imbue a lot of characters with distinct and memorable personalities, despite the vert drama plot limitations. They made us infer scenes to save time, which really helped develop the characterization. For example--'this is my mother's lotus cake, have some' which implies ML mother knows and approves of FL, and also sets up the suspicion that the princess AND the consort were tag teaming when they were persuading the emperor to issue an edict of marriage. Loooooved the ending. Xu, the gentle and also vicious last woman standing in the Marquis' mansion, comforting the Marquis as he wails in drunken regret, then standing for her revenge and conquest little monologue. Delicious!!!

At least they didn't physically torture the FL, the mother in law understood that they owed the FL a lot and kept urging the unfaithful marquis to coax his wife.
I think this is the 4th Hou Fu drama that I've watched. They're all good so far. I can't get enough.

This is one of my favorite plots and I liked this version. This version has FL divorce the Marquis by 1:20, so there was more time to tell her story after the divorce, as well as see the fall of the Marquis' family due to poor management and vicious scheming.
This version has FL come from a merchant family, which in ancient times, is of lower class than royal and government families. This was not unique to ancient China. Other ancient civilizations had hierarchies where religious, royal, and government/military leaders were at the top of the food chain. Because women initiating divorce was unheard of and her being from a merchant family, it makes sense that she would need help from her royal friends to get a divorce.
Husband character in this version wasn't just clueless, but extra arrogant. He fell into the mentality that he was better and FL was less worthy because she is merchant class and he is military/government class. He begging her to return after the divorce was satisfying, but it clearly wasn't about love. He finally saw how important she was to the family, and her business capabilities surpassed everyone in the household.
Loved the royal sibling and nephew trio. All their plans to help FL worked. I liked how this story did not rush into the FL and prince marriage after the divorce. Their story took the time and obstacles needed to develop. Big sis to the rescue again. 👏👏👏
The most reasonable and beautiful version of the concept of this true. I’ve watched a lot of version of this story but most are ridiculously exaggerated twist . Even the actors are good. The brother in law Young Master Lu is the best.

So over the course of 6yrs the scumbag was busy sowing his seed all over the place whilst FL was dutifully waiting for him by financially supporting his unscrupulous, ungrateful, retched family! And he waltzes back with a concubine and two children in tow 😐. They got what they deserved when they ended up having to struggle to make ends meet. ML said it himself, he didn’t cherish who he had and he was left with nothing but a broken household. Serves him right! It made me laugh hearing the bystanders rubbing it in that the FL had married someone better 😆. ML was trying to delude himself saying that he ‘lost her’ when it was his deliberate actions that drove her away, what a self pitying fool 🙄. This was a good drama with a strong FL and ML, who was very supportive. The regret of the 2ML was really giving in this drama and it was satisfying to see 😌.
