The idea reminds me of Me and my Mate Colin in our Student Days, a team forged by different temperaments with loyalty and fun at its core, plenty of Beer for me and Ladies for He. My heart had been broken and so had no interest in their beauty, I preferred instead to dwell within the time portal of my glass. We had wild times across the land, true friendship. My heart is fixed now, after all these years, but I still do miss my old mate 🙂

Chris is such a fun actor!!! What a guy!
Chris as Rimmer had the best character dimension on Red Dwarf. This was certainly one of his best episodes.
It's strange to think that this is the version of Rimmer that technically failed, and yet because he did, you have someone completely different. He doesn't look down on anyone, nor does he want to suck up towards higher ups.
He's almost empathetic and sympathetic if we knew a lot but you just get that moral through failure, you see potential in anyone, if you believe in them as well as yourself.
That's Goalpost Head's shortcomings. He was never empathetic nor sympathetic. When he failed, it was everyone's fault, not his.

Rimmer in prime universe could keep the delusion as he never was kept back that he wasn't to blame and he is still going for greater things

This scene proves that the reason why everyone's life sucks in the Red Dwarf universe. If Arnold Rimmer had been held back that year and strode to become Ace everyone's life would have been much better. Ace is quite the guy; Arnold is quite the Smeghead.

The novelization of Ace really expands on the impact he had on Lister before they ever met. Arnold has a different roommate on Red Dwarf who recognizes his knack for engineering and helps him get a degree. He instantly gets snapped up by Mimas, marries Kochanski and only then meets Rimmer.
I'd like to see half a season of this, then the descent into vindaloos and cowardice. The season arc would be epic 😂
