I think the reason why its scary is because its just very uncanny Its spongebob just walking for basically 2 minutes with nothing happening so something does feel wrong
I find it funny that I remember the walk cycle, I remember patchy’s reactions to it and everything he did to find the video, but for some reason, I don’t remember them being linked. Before watching this vid, I remembered the walk cycle as something that happened on a random episode before Spongebob went about his usual day and patchy’s whole thing just being a patchy centric ep by itself. I blamed how young I was when this came out
I feel like it'd make more sense if the walk cycles were indeed a "lost episode" specifically meant as an animation test, and Patchy would find an actual full-length lost episode in like, his backyard or something, which would have led into The Sponge Who Could Fly Either way, I still think that the whole special is pretty underrated and has some shining moments, the walk cycles being one of them
I also thought the scene was a reference to animation test videos studios like to put out to see how well characters can interact with different emotions and/or movements, which is what the walk cycle somewhat portrays. Also tapes like these actually tend to be discarded, or stored very secretly to actually give a sense of it being real lost spongebob media. So in a logical and realistic sense, it works!

I remember watching it for the first time and I just laughed my ass off like I knew that was the joke and just loved it even to this day I enjoy watching it
This whole episode was one of my favorites because the walk cycle had such catchy music, seeing Patchy deal with continuous searching only to get this anti-humor climax that formulated my idea of what comedic timing is as well as parts of my sense of humor, and the music in The Sponge Who Could Fly was all just so memorable. I still hum the whole "I want to fly so very high and touch the sky" song sometimes to myself. I'm 30 and I still remember this episode fondly, it's still stuck in my mind. It really is brilliant.
I thought the episode was pretty good too. The thought of Spongebob becoming a superhero but soon realizes he’s in over his head and that it’s not for him was a pretty cool idea at that time (for 2003).
So fun fact about the walk cycle, the portions where spongebob is kicking his feet way out in front of him may be a reference to John Lennon, where he was pictured walking in a very similar fashion.
Wow I remember the hype. We were talking about it for weeks at school. I called my mom into the room crying thinking the tv was broke 😂. The writers really trolled a generation of kids hard af.
This was a fun video about how memorable and impactful this was and how it was a contrast to the expected episode formula, but you actually didn't talk much about how "genius" the lost episode was. You touched on it, but didn't elaborate. Fun trip down memory lane tho
The episode scared me when i first saw because of the dead stare, but for years it has been my favourite episode. The music, the funny visual and patchys reaction. It's so simple but the most nostalgic to me.
I remember seeing it live back in March 2003. I remember going swimming to the Y near me and then making it home in time to see this. Back then, you had to be lucky enough to catch a show when it came on or have a blank VHS recording tape available LOL
I remember when I was younger I used to act out the walk cycle like all the time 😂 Also I can't remember the last time this episode was on TV lmao *edited because I accidentally said "video" and not "episode"
Shout out to Tom Kenny and all the awesome stuff he's brought us over the years. From SpongeBob and Patchy the Pirate to the Ice King and Squanchy. Awesome actor.
Honestly, the walk cycle seems like a backhaul, the trailing portion of a TV program (usually a live one) that you don't see because the network hasn't started to broadcast the program yet. Since it was on the tape when Patchy found it then that means Patchy's copy was a studio master copy of the episode as opposed to a "home video" copy you can find at the store. Realistically a broadcast of the studio master tape would play past that while the networks runs advertising or a bumper, and then join the tape when "The Sponge Who Could Fly" starts.
I used to be scared of the walk cycle because of the faces that he makes And I never wanted to watch it at night And I never remembered it being so long

This episode was on a dvd from the early 00's, I believe i still may have this dvd. I distinctly remember watching it back in 2012 or so, and was very confused by it and didn't pay too much attention. If I'm able to find it, I'll upload part of it.
I remember watching it for the first time and I just laughed my ass off like I knew that was the joke and just loved it even to this day I enjoy watching it
This is probably the longest video I’ve seen from Vailskibum
I loved this episode I dont even really remember the episode besides the walk cycle😂
The walk cycle is something that I will never forgot in my entire life
@@better5486 a have a genuine question, do you have anything better to do?
@@MashedPotatoInMyShoe I’ve got something better to do. Report his ass.
The greatest troll of all time 😂
Trolling before it was a thing.
The Patchy and Potty parts were probably the best part of the special.
It’s a guide for people when they’re animating Spongebob
i remember seeing this episode and the walk cycle kinda scared me lol
Wow I remember the hype. We were talking about it for weeks at school. I called my mom into the room crying thinking the tv was broke 😂. The writers really trolled a generation of kids hard af.
This was a fun video about how memorable and impactful this was and how it was a contrast to the expected episode formula, but you actually didn't talk much about how "genius" the lost episode was. You touched on it, but didn't elaborate.
Fun trip down memory lane tho
video starts at 1:57
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING BACK MY NOSTALGIA!!! I remember having the dvd for this episode back a long time ago
Is it me or the walk cycle felt felt longer on dvd?
The episode scared me when i first saw because of the dead stare, but for years it has been my favourite episode. The music, the funny visual and patchys reaction. It's so simple but the most nostalgic to me.
I LOVED THAT EPISODE AS A KID. I still have the DVD for it!
I remember seeing it live back in March 2003.
I remember going swimming to the Y near me and then making it home in time to see this.
Back then, you had to be lucky enough to catch a show when it came on or have a blank VHS recording tape available LOL
This thing is SCORCHED into my memory. It always made me stare at the TV as a kid with the most confused expression
I remember when I was younger I used to act out the walk cycle like all the time 😂
Also I can't remember the last time this episode was on TV lmao
*edited because I accidentally said "video" and not "episode"
Sawa 😂
You aren’t the only one
Yeah I miss the old episodes. While when I was a kid the newest season were 6 & 7, atleast they still streamed first 3 seasons too
@@hal-fling Yeah I miss when I used to be able to just watch SpongeBob and not have a care in the world
Bro why 😐😂
Classic Spongebob always puts a smile on my face as I walk cycle to work.
That lost episode created a meme and you know what meme is it.
what, brodyquest?
What meme?
I actually have a DVD that had this episode. I remember watching this as a child in my grandma’s car, on the flip down TV on the roof.
OMG, I remember those!
Shout out to Tom Kenny and all the awesome stuff he's brought us over the years. From SpongeBob and Patchy the Pirate to the Ice King and Squanchy. Awesome actor.
you mean to squaunch me that tom squanchy squanches squanchy?
Honestly, the walk cycle seems like a backhaul, the trailing portion of a TV program (usually a live one) that you don't see because the network hasn't started to broadcast the program yet. Since it was on the tape when Patchy found it then that means Patchy's copy was a studio master copy of the episode as opposed to a "home video" copy you can find at the store. Realistically a broadcast of the studio master tape would play past that while the networks runs advertising or a bumper, and then join the tape when "The Sponge Who Could Fly" starts.
It was also the scariest thing I had seen when I was 5.
As someone who does animation in his spare time, I can tell you that animating a walk cycle is a PAIN IN THE BACKSIDE!
This may have been one of the best scenes in the whole show
me and my family was in florida in 2003 for that one for vacation, i knew nothing of it and it just happen to come on tv.
I remember seeing this for the first time when I was 6. To date, I’ve never been more disappointed
Hapana
But you surely found out it was a joke as the episode progressed right?
@@RYMAN1321 you overestimate he intelligence of 6 year olds
Rhe Patchy the Pirate segment followed by the walk cycle was easily my favorite part orlf the lost episode and I remember the hype and build up, lol
And many found his freakout of his ransacked apartment terrifying for some reason.
I never knew Stephen Hillenburg made a cameo in the show!!! neat
Me either
And once again rip Stephen hillenburg
This episode, is so vividly remembered in my brain, i dont remember the dvd this was on, but the walk cycle always creeps me out. still.
I used to be scared of the walk cycle because of the faces that he makes
And I never wanted to watch it at night
And I never remembered it being so long
Everytime the song came on the radio as a kid Id just knew It as sponebobs walk song, The walk animation Is actually really dope.
