How and where would you fish this, intermediate line salt / fresh water ?
@@garryryan561 great question! This is very versatile and can be fished in running water, still water, saltwater. Sinking line, intermediate or even a floating line. Personally I fish it on an intermediate line in the salt! 🧂
I’m going to try on the Isle of Mull on all the mentioned water on an intermediate,?thanks for the quick reply
I love the way you tied this and used what materials you had to tie it. When I started tying I used materials harvested from hunting. The hooks were from bait fishing. So I made due with what I had, the flies and jigs worked fine and caught fish. You may have seen this before but about 8 years ago our friend Michael Jensen posted, The Big Hole Demon - and the power of three, on his website. Excellent info on this pattern and it's history. Thanks Morten for the constant inspiration. I've lots new materials to tie with now!
Yeah I remember that blog post very well actually! Thanks for always tuning in Joe!
I tied up a few Big Hole Demons a couple years ago and they just died in my flybox, I pulled one out a couple weeks ago to fish a cloudy reservoir in No. California. I was catching on a Chartreuse soft hackle with significant tail and hackle....which told me, maybe this is the time for the Demon! Sure enough I started catching with a gold bodied Bighole Demon. It was my second most productive fly in that lake and now I'm tying another batch!
BTW one of your very best videos!! I loved it
@@kevinardellafry that’s a great story! Thank you for your kind words! 😊 don’t we all have a row of flies that doesn’t get used and then all of a sudden we decide to use one and then all hell breaks loose! 😅
Beautiful pattern. Mega Thx !
I tie something similar with olive hen for imitating swimming damsel fly nymphs.
@@ConnerCannonwhiteboy sounds like a killer fly!
THAT LOOKS LIKE A KILLER PATTERN! NICE JOB!!!!!!!
Oh it absolutely is a killer pattern alright! 💯
Beutiful fly. Love the hook by the way. After finding your channel last year I went out and bought a ton of Ares hooks. My last trip to the Telico River in south western tennessee, those hook performed fantastic. Never lost a fish. I am hoping if my health gets a little I can go back. I have fished Colorodo, Montana and Utah and the telico river is by far favor in the States. Telico reminds me a lot of the waters in Austria. Absolutely breath taking.
@@alexrawleigh3167 yeah it’s turning into my favorite hook more and more. I have no lost fish on this hook either which is quite impressive.
Silver badger i think was used on the original. And the hook was a streamer hook not sure on the modal number. But my guess was one of the Olso Norway mustad hooks.
looks like a top water. does it sink for smallmouth ?
@@taboots67 it does sink a bit but almost howers in the water.
Hi, great pattern!! What size hook did you use? Thank!!
A size 10. 😊
