First time. 2min into the vid and i can tell this dude is a Legend. Gonna learn all i can. Where else but from Texas would you learn this the right way. The tooling was out of this world. That was the most incredible artwork i've ever seen done. Mindblowing.
I’ve made and sold 4 without even really trying. I made my own pattern and really like it. I made one for myself and one for my son as well. They are great pieces to learn how to make and are very simple to build.
Hello Don I just wanted to say thanks for the great videos . I do a little tooling myself but not the quality that you display . Lots of great tips, i know that for some of the guitar straps I have made it is near impossible to sell them at a price that most people are willing to pay. I’ve watched several of your videos and you have shown me many ways to speed up the process with tips on tools etc . I’m not trying to make a living at it just enjoy the art. Thanks keep up the great videos. James
class dont know where i could get that printed will have to look into that before i purchase the pattern here in ireland but it gives me something to look forward to thanks Don
Been wanting to do a guitar strap for my son in law , he has 4 guitars and loves playing . but i wanted to put designs that he is into . He and my daughter are into D&D and wanted to incorpret symbols like dice , and characters into it so have been slow on the make . but your info has been great , didnt know about painters tape although i have plenty on hand for my cricut , and thought the 9 oz leather would be too much . question i have lots of lamb wool (fleece ) on hand and was thinking of putting that on back what do you think ? sincerely deb novice leather worker
Would you mind breaking down how you are doing your pricing for finished products? I'm struggling to see how you are profitable investing a substantial amount of time into this type of product. I'm trying to get my own business going so that info would be really helpful.
Don, I have purchased a few patterns and got some free ones. I got the guitar pattern and the leather. Is there a way to share my work with you? There must be lots of folks that are proud of what you have taught them and would like you to see it. Thanks for you and your skill and teaching. Tom
Hi Don, thanks for the video. I've received the pattern but I cannot find an oval bag punch of the right size. Can you or anyone reading this help in finding the right tool?
do you have a rule for how to measure where the name would go on a custom guitar strap? I'm always worried it will be too high or low on the front or back when they are wearing it.
Awesome work, love it...Mr Gonzales, just for clearification...you brushed in the black and then lightly oiled and then antiqued with black?....I just ordered your pattern for this
All of the black is dye. He usually uses a fine pointed brush with long bristles. This allows it to hold a lot of dye & when you touch it in place, it will spread in bar grounding/backgrounding. Then you can use the dauber around the sides & ends. I believe he uses fiebings Sheridan brown antiquing paste (I've made the mistake of using gel before & it bleeds through the resist & colors it all).
Yes he uses fine paint brush for the background and edges. Then olive oil lightly or to desired color then resist. He uses tan kote then antique paste. Then tan kote again after dry.
Hi Don do you dye leather? If so what kind of procedure and application do you use, i find it hard to dye without the dye rubbing off (i do it with a wool dauber) using pro oil dye.
Thanks Don! I've made 3 different guitar straps now. I'm still working on perfecting a size and shape I like. When you say you use a #10 & #2 hole punch for the pig holes. What size are those? My hole punch set are in inches.
No reason to take it to anyone to print. Just screen capture the strap of your choice and print it in 7 sections and tape them to make a 42" strap. Easy Peasy!
I cant watch your video because for the first 4 minutes you said the same damn thing over and over and over. I realized the first time that 1. you were making two "gitar" straps 2. One will be single ply at about 10oz. 3. One will be lined with a combo of weights to pretty much make a 10 oz "gitar" strap. I cant risk being retold this a 4th or 5th time.

I love how Don calls it a Git-tawr strap. Lovely work...Thanks Don.
That’s how you know there’s some good punchy information coming
Great video. Once upon a time, years ago I did some leather tooling. I may pick it up again. Joe from Rockport, Texas...(Neighbors of Harvey & Diana}
OLD Leather Smith here, very nice job Don, great 4 beginners. GOD'S BLESSINGS ✝️⚾🙃

Those are absolutely beautiful!
I have so much respect for you.
You have helped my career more then anyone else.
Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge

Just started working with leather and you have helped me out enormously! Thank you!
Absolutely great video…looking forward to making one. Will have to hand sew….should be fun! Ordered the pattern pack.
Great podcast with Chas Weldon.
Hello I injoy watching the video what do you use to thin your glue with.I watch all your videos learn a lot thanks
Looking forward to making a couple.
What number beveler did you use? I loved it. I ordered the printed version.
class dont know where i could get that printed will have to look into that before i purchase the pattern here in ireland but it gives me something to look forward to thanks Don
I actually prefer the flesh side down because it keeps the strap from slipping. The ones that are lined wtih smooth leathers get kind of slick.
Thank you for another great video !
Been waiting for you to make a pattern pack for these. Would be interested in specifics on the bag punches; length & width. Thank you!
1" bag/slot punch, probably from C.S. Osborne
Man i really like your channell
Well done!
Man, that sure is pretty!!!
Don , great video & beautiful work. Where can I get the type of knife you use to trim leather?
As always great info
I have a customer who is bigger. 41-56” guitar strap currently.
Will this pattern be able to extend that far?

Won’t the edge dye hold better if you dye it first and slick after with the gum trag?

What's the overall length of this strap? I'm on the short side and I use a 43 inch strap from hole to hole.

Hello again what size punch do you use for the pegs
He said #10 & #2 or #4, but I want to know what size those equal to in fractions. You can find it at 22:22
What would you sell a strap like the floral one for??
What company do you get your clicker dies from? Those look very sturdy. I’d like to get a set for my pattern
What are a list of the bevels/other tools you used by chance? I am a newbie to tooling lol
Hey Don. What dimensions would a ukulele strap be compared to a guitar?
Why do you punch after dying and all? Or was that just due to the 2 different pieces on the one with the liner?
How long are each of the pieces?
Hi Don do you dye leather? If so what kind of procedure and application do you use, i find it hard to dye without the dye rubbing off (i do it with a wool dauber) using pro oil dye.
I had the same problem, until I started using Fiebings Leather Sheen. It seems to work great, and doesn't change the color much.
I just downloaded your pattern, but it doesn't print properly, I only get one page
Can you assist ?
How wide are these straps?
Where I can get this Guitar strap die?
Boa noite sou do Brasil como eu faço para conseguir este maude em pdf.
Do you hold the bevel in your dominant hand?
No he's right handed.
@@jseg83 thank you.
I want one of them
This may be the first video from you where I’ve actually seen the clicker used 😂.
That's the first time i've seen one handed stitching on a machine! Are u kidding me???
Still hoping Mr Gonzales will answer my question
Thanks Don! I've made 3 different guitar straps now. I'm still working on perfecting a size and shape I like.
