I have been an unwavering fan since reading about Matthew Shepard and subsequently moved by your sorrowful yet strong song about him... and your letters to leaders about keeping their bigoted political views out of your personal life. You have a voice that is heard on stage, on radio, on debate and on record - and life would be better if everyone just perked up their ears and listened to you with open hearts and minds. Thank you for giving us what grows in your soul.

Love this woman. I had the privilege to work for her record company in the 90's and I worked with her many times. I believe she is the sincerest artist I ever worked with and her dedication to her fan base is real. Many nights her tour manager kept telling her she had to get on the bus as she stayed and met everybody in line after the show. The last time I saw/talked to her was in pre-show catering as she juggled her sleeping son in one arm and tried to eat with the other. I was no longer with the record company, so we chatted and caught up. Honestly, she probably would not recognize me if we passed on the street today, but I will hold those memories and my gold record for Yes I Am...forever.

@tiffanyalberti2029 You're supposed to ask people what they're for or against, not tell them. Whatever helped Melissa and her wife is their business, maybe it's just not for others. The first cassette tape I ever picked out for myself was her, back in the early 90’s.
I thought she was so great! But then my family told me I should stop listening to her and they got weird when I, a preteen girl, sang along.
Why? Why would they care when I had a strong, opinionated, talented role model and I had enjoyed her music so much?
I was too young to realize she just came out if the closet around that time, and my family was full of homophobic individuals.
For the record, you don’t “become gay” by listening to music.
It is my biggest regret I stopped listening to her and had to hide that I liked her music back then because I was a child and didn’t know better.
I needed a strong, independent role model like her.
Today I am a staunch ALLY and I trace my support and acceptance if that community back to that experience.

Getting old sucks... I've been watching Steven Tyler morph into a hippy grandma, Vince Neil morph into Immortan Joe, Chrissie Hynde morph into a mashup of Steven Tyler and Christine McVie, David Lee Roth morph into William Lane Craig, Eddie Vedder morph into Russell Crowe, Madonna morph into a skinny version of Barf from _Spaceballs,_ Axl Rose morph into a swollen, squinty troll doll that was left in a hot car, and Mellisa Etheridge morph into the the Skipper from _Gilligan's Island._
And the worst of it all is that I don't look much better.

Getting older is better than the alternative.......
Don't complain. The gift of life is denied to many.

The mirror is never so harsh as when we see our idols in it.

How much do these guests have to pay to promote their latest product on the Colbert show?
