The big, vibrant voice. The heartfelt, spiritual delivery. The spirituality that made Tucker, a devout Orthodox Jew, so moving even in overtly Christian hymns and arias. As he is here.
Bobby, It has been 50 years next month and we all still hurt really bad. This performance is a wonderful tribute to you. America lost a great leader when you died.
It's a pleasure to hear this wonderful selection sung properly with both verses. Many times the first verse is simply repeated which makes absolutely no sense. Mr. Tucker sang the piece at a very slow tempo, making it much more difficult. Most church singers could not sustain the piece at that tempo.

This was sung here in 1968 by American tenor Richard Tucker, for and at the Kennedy funeral, by request of the Kennedy family. -------RIP.

And on top of that it is as far as I can remember the finest rendition of this I've heard to date, at least on youtube. But the only renditions posted are by Bocelli, Domingo, some amateur tenors and various terrible popera singers. Pavarotti's was the only other good one but not on Tucker's level.
Panis angelicus fit panis hominum; Dat panis cœlicus figuris terminum: O res mirabilis! Manducat Dominum Pauper, servus et humilis. Te trina Deitas unaque poscimus: Sic nos tu visita, sicut te colimus; Per tuas semitas duc nos quo tendimus, Ad lucem quam inhabitas. Amen.
The voice is superb, but for a more gripping interpretation - the best on YT - listen to Derek de Cambra's. This was a record of his I taped, then many years later, put on my macbook. In spite of the blips and fizzes I think you'll be hard pressed to find a more passionate recording ANYWHERE.
Thanks.. this is truly magnificent. Tucker was 56 at the time, and he sounds in his prime!!

Purity of tone and pitch. I have always missed him.

Just beautiful, just a great natural voice.
Never forget this performance. Toughest ever.

This was live, not a studio recording. Bravo!
Beautiful (completely unmannered!) singing, and an interesting historical document. Thanks a lot

I like John McCormack's and Richard Crook's aswell, check them out.

Believe Archbishop Cooke was not a Cardinal yet. Later in the spring, I think.
Yes, Richard Tucker was a very good friend of the Archbishop.
@pastorgeorgem Who? That's a big pile of bull; Tucker was married only once from 1936 to 1975 to Sara Perelmuth, sister of Jan Peerce.
To think that Tucker was Jewish!
