About Me: I am a 26-year-old musician from Long Island, New York. Coming up on 7 years as a professional in the industry, I have released over 90 songs I am constantly releasing more. My most recognized song is "I Need the Sun to Break" with over 850,000 streams on Spotify.
In my best month to date, I had over 60,000 unique monthly listeners on Spotify. While about 12,000 of the listeners were from the United States, the remaining 48,000 came from over 20 countries overseas. My top three performing international locations were Germany, Singapore, and the Philippines. I desires to make good quality, wholesome music that listeners of all ages can relate to and be moved by.

The two songs done FULLY live are Boho Days and Why (sung in the Delcore Theatre in Central Park). He suggested to Lin-Manuel that Why be done live due to its emotional nature. Additionally, I strongly suggest (after you watch the movie) that you check out some of the promo-interviews, especially the group ones, whether you react or not. The actors are constantly being brought [close] to tears - they are all extremely invested in this film.
Oh cool!
"Why" and "Boho Days" were the only songs that were recorded live.
Ah ok
You need to watch the whole movie to understand why the last phrase is left unresolved. "Louder Than Words" is the final number of the movie, and omitting that last note symbolizes Jonathan's life as an "unfinished song".
Oh shoooot
But when writing it, Jonathan didn’t know about his short lifespan. It was meant to really drive home that Actions are louder than words, so the last “word” was omitted and the song wasn’t resolved cause actions are/need to be on-going.
About the jump to the camcorder-esque footage: those are the actors, not the real people from the original monologue. There are a few brief snippets in the movie where actual footage from Larson's time are used, but also where the actors are shot using a similar camera, to recreate that feel/vibe from the time. It's really cool how they use it in the whole film!
In some of the footage from the actual performance by Larson, a soon to be Tony award winning actor Roger Bart is behind him singing high harmony throughout the entire show. In this movie, a character named "Roger", played by Joshua Henry, is seen here singing backup. The actual Roger Bart is a close friend of Larson's and has a cameo in the movie as one of the diner patrons in the opening number (along with James C. Nicola who was the artistic director NY Theatre Workshop which produced the first off-Broadway production of Rent).
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
He did sing it live, but they also has studio a recorded version so they used bits of both. I think the only song that is fully live is Boho Days. The other songs that are performed in this setting with the band and the audience are this live/studio mix as well as ‘Why’ which i believe is supposed to be somewhere in central park (?? Idk New York much?), as far as i know
"Why" was performed live at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. They did multiple takes but the second take is the one they used in the film.
“Why” was also performed live.
Oh cool
The whole movie is incredible! Give Andrew his Oscar already!
🔥🔥🔥
I wouldn't bet on it, even though he's at least one step above not only the other four nominees, but anyone this year actually. Not the first time that happened either - when he was nominated for Hacksaw Ridge, it was the same thing. But hey, it's not like the darkest of horses (who was also the very best of the performers) never won, so let's hope Andrew pulls an Adrien Brody next month! It's been long enough!
As far as I know, they rehearsed for the movie like a stage musical, so they rehearsed performing all the songs live and filmed it that way, though the only song in the film that is definitely sung live is Why (and maybe Boho Days, but I'm not sure about that)
Nice!!
Boho days was live too, and the way it's in the movie I can't really see how it wouldn't be. Why is the one that impressed me the most about being live!
I'm not a singer so i never really thought about the microphone distance before, but I've heard Jonathan was always turned up to an 11 when performing so he probably didn't even a microphone most of the time haha. You are right about the social commentary in this song, as Jonathan went on to write Rent. TTB is his one man semi-autobiographical show, half about the frustration of being a struggling artist in 80/90s NYC and half about the shortness of life and doing what you love, as some of his friends in the arts were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS.
This song does technically get resolved, but you have to watch the movie to see it
Oh wow!
omg I’m so glad u are reacting to tick, tick… BOOM!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
What I love is that on top of the song itself (which I love) and even without the intro and clips, you can hear the seeds of Rent in the lyrics.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I think the fully live songs are Why and Boho Days. Boho Days is acapella so of course and Why because Andrew wanted to sing it live
🙏🏼🙏🏼
These scenes in the film were recorded in the same room that Jonathon Larson performed his Rock Monologue that became Tick Tick Boom
Oh wow!!
This was great!! Could you also react to "Johnny Can't Decide" from Tick Tick...Boom! please? It's a great song that I don't see many people talking about.
Cool thanks!
That's true...and such a great song and performance by Andrew too! Not that he gives less than an incredible performance in any of the songs, but this one is 100% solo and incredibly overlooked, you're right.
LOL! Every singer that reacts to this that I've watched so far HAS to resolve the note on their own lol! I love the cliffhang, ESPECIALLY in the film version's ending!
😂
the songs "boho days" and "why" are the only songs that are actually live
Very cool
Jonathan's sister said it was like watching her brother.
Wow
That is so amazing! I can only imagine how emotional that must have made Andrew!
This was absolutely phenomenal.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
The song is left unresolved because the whole point of the song is these are all questions about humanity that nobody has an answer to. There is no resolution to these conflicts in our world so there’s no resolution to the questions about them
Snap!
My favorite song from this!!
🔥🔥
There is a reason it doesn’t resolve but that’s why you really need to go watch the film😄
Oh snap
You still haven’t watched tick tick boom?!!!!! You are missing out after so many songs reviewed without that insight
Soon!
I kind of love how all the professionals I’ve see react to this song automatically assume that the song ends with Andrew saying ‘louder than words’. When in actuality it subverts your expectations and instead goes out with Andrew playing the happy birthday jingle on the piano.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
The reason it goes to Happy Birthday and then cuts off is because he died just a week or two before his birthday from an aortic dissection.
and it's sofrustrating cause i ABSOLUTELY LOVE that moment, and it's so meaningful in the context of the film because his 30th birthday is like a ticking bomb to him but by the time we reach that part it feels more freeing than anything, like this impossible deadline he set for himself to be successful by the age of 30 is finally over and he's just going to keep trying.
Louder than…..
Looking forward to joining in when you watch. It has lots of thinking points.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
The two live songs are "Why" (the scene in Central Park Delacorte theatre) and "Boho Days" (the apartment party scene), this one isn't.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I think the only song that’s completely live is “Why” which is a great, emotional one
Nice
Boho days is also 100% live, which makes sense since it's a cappella and the little "drummy" sounds they make is actually by slapping the furniture and such.
Boho days and Why were performed live but not the other songs, as far as I know. In any case, no amount of training (one year's worth, in his case) would make Andrew sound as amazing as he does. This movie is 100% amazing and he should definitely do more musical stuff. The fact that he's a long shot for the Oscar makes me really frustrated.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
it was likely recorded live but pieces of it were probably dubbed in post.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
That's likely just a prop mic, there's likely a 58 hidden somewhere.
Probs
I meant a 57. But thinking about it again there's probably a lapel mic hidden on him somewhere
A lot of context of the significance of this scene and song is lost without watching the movie!! You must watch it ASAP!
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
you don't think there is any way you can upload the movie reaction on youtube too? if the editing gets too hard you could always upload the reaction without the movie and give us timecodes to watch along!
Hmm I’m sorry I don’t think i would be able to :(
u should react to
green green dress
therapy
johnny can't decide
+ sextet montage
:)
@@JacobRestituto pls react to ittttt
As far as the casting is concerned, LMM has access to some fine singers, lol... obviously.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Did you spot Chris Jackson, aka George Washington 😁?
Oh shoot! I missed him
Don’t spoil it for when he watches the film.
hi
;)
