In India something like this is called ‘Tabaahi’. These electromotive diesel locos are known for their seriously quick acceleration. The only locos to better them are the WAP electric locos. But still nothing compares to the Boeing turbo whining off that 2 stroke V16! Great video with those accurate numbers. 🙏🏽

Because we add excessive loads on locomotives, Indian railways are slower. Also, there are speed limits on tracks. Try coupling WDP4 with only 5-6 coaches (like trains in Europe). They will easily run at 150-160 kmph. Technology is there. But due to very heavy loads (18-24 coaches per train), trains are slower. Couple only 6 coaches to WAP5. It can go upto 200kmph with just 6 coaches.
There is no way a train in india can run with 5-6 coaches. And also these locomotives are not designed for simple loads. You should rather be amazed with the fact that despite having 10-12 coaches some trains reach 110-120kmph which is remarkable!!
kaarthick vicky Talgo train test is taken by coupling 6 coaches manufactured by Talgo with WDP4. It can go upto 180 kmph. WDP4 goes at 110kmph+ with 24 coaches (Rajdhani). In India, main aim is to provide transportation to more people in a cheapest way rather than to make journey faster. I'm happy that, Indian railway's manufacturing and R&D dept is really doing well. I already know that, it will be inefficient for us to run the train only with 6-8 coaches. I'm in Europe now and travel every day with Deutsche Bahn. when we compare it with our railways, the conclusion is, our locomotive technology is also one of the best in the world (even if technology for some of the locomotives such as WDP4 is borrowed from others and modified in India)

i think the loco only,,without load,,,accaletates 0-100km/h in less than 35 seconds,,,if the loco weights 140 tons and 4500hp...the power/weight ratio is approx 30 kg/hp,the engine is a beast,,,i suppose two strokes,,,the noise is typical,,,ande high torque in all range of rpm!!!...an EMD loco,wright???,,,y read tahat she has a traction force about 60 tons average(decreases with the speed ,obviously)

Gaurav Kulkarni wap 5 can go all the way up to 220 kmph but our rail tracks are only capable of doing 160 and on some routes it's 120 only

I have noticed that at junction stations, trains tend to clear the station slowly but in normal stations, they accelerate very fast.
on junction train has to pass thru points with low speed before accelerating on mainline
Traveling in train, journey to a long distance really a great unforgettable memory.
