It looks to me like maybe you should have installed the panel inset where the mounting tabs sit behind the drywall or eliminated entirely and that bezel piece you installed mounts in front of the drywall thus eliminating the gap you are experiencing. To be honest I do not see an improvement adding the bezel in the panels current installation because as you pointed out there is still a gap and you can still see those mounting tabs.

Thanks for sharing, I agree! I plan to cut out the drywall and remount the whole panel. That way I can eliminate the gaps.
