It was a great shame it was a very dark and cloudy day @ the show! Vulcan bomber - the delta-winged Vulcan XH558. Named The Spirit of Great Britain it enjoyed a 33-year career in the RAF, including service during the Falklands War. - Авто/Мото
i can not spell vulcan but am 74 yeears old and flew in this aircraft in cyprus 1961
Can we just appreciate ? 3:31 to 3:41 a nuclear strategic long range bomber designed and built in the early '50s, just out manoeuvred an enemy jet interceptor.
I'm honored to say that I was at this airshow.
OMG that fricking howl........
Always been a fan of the Vulcan and I was lucky enough to see it at RAF cotsford in this display , this aircraft is the melenium falcon of the real world, personal preference 👍
My wife and I, plus our various young kids, saw the Vulcan at RAF Halton around 1982.
It was a magnificent display: and yes, I know it was a war plane but the sheer engineering that went into it is, to this day, incredible.
She doesn't just fly through the sky....she tears it asunder. One of the best recorded,if short...HOWL!
I was at this airshow, and to hear the howl in person still raises the hairs on the back of my neck.
I was there on that very miserable day, at the little airfield, explicitly to see this magnificent aeroplane fly, both for her dedicated display there, and also for her national tour, but annoyingly there was no announcement of her on approach to the airfield on the tour, but it was worth the while waiting for her sinister delta profile gracefully skimming over and behind the Cold War Hangar. The chilling howl at her display at the airfield was very much the icing on the cake, not to mention her brutal roar at speeds and her staggering manoeuvrability. She may be grounded for the foreseeable future, but she will always remain a true signature of Britain, a reminder of a time that Britain used to be...great and very much greater than all.
Long live the V-Force, long live XH558.
I seen her a raf lucars while delivering stuff for a marquee prior to the air show a few yrs ago,the pilot went mad and did his whole routine in front a air squaddies it was truly amazing and i will never forget it,is was one off the most loudest and scary and beautiful sights iv ever witnessed,i will never forget it.
I saw this fly over Seatoller near Keswick a few years ago at night with the lights on. I will never forget it, just a big silhouette of a triangle.
I was lucky enough to be there that day. To witness this graceful machine glide through the air but leave a roaring howl in her wake. No plane will ever come close to the awe inspiring vulcan
It was this aircraft that got me into airshows!!
I was there, it was a cloudy and sometimes overcast day,but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the day,The Vulcan was the highlight for me, I find the sight and sound of this beautiful lady so thrilling,it is the most AWESOME plane ever, such a pity it is not going to fly after this year..
great video. Just seem XH588 fly passed me in Stowupland on its way to Norwich. Lovely old eagle, shame to be retiring completely this year. First saw it at Farnborough in the early 90s when its howl (literally) knocked me off my feet on a low fly past...
A great shame it's not going to be in the sky where it belongs anymore! Living where I do that's not too far from it's home base I've had the pleasure of seeing it quite a few times over the years & it still makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck when it powers up to climb steeply. Sad to see it go really.
See you tomorrow old girl, either at woodford aerodrome or the turning point at barton.
a tear will be shed...
After the Red Arrows show, Vulcan flew at Weston Super Mare two weeks ago--came in over the sea and stood on her tail--jeeeeezus, what a sound, and gave us the Howl treatment. I hope some Newspaper starts a new fund going, to save her once more.
It flew right past the South side of my house yesterday at about 2000 feet with the full Sun shining on it at tea time, I guess it was probably on it's way home after flying around at Rhyl airshow earlier in the day. It looked great as it went by & was starting to bank to the left so I could see top side of both wings from where I was, the worst bit is, I have one of my cameras ready on the side in the house for things like this but unfortunately I was at the bottom of the garden at the time it flew past. The words sods & law spring to mind!
Bloody marvellous !! Such a sad time.. The end on an era, When the Vulcan will fly for the very last time.
I saw these in operation as a kid and at RIAT this year where the hairs on my neck stood out after that howl. Its a reminder of when Britain was great and we actually made stuff like this. Thats all been p**sed up the wall now as we have become nothing more than a nation of saturday night talent shows, bake offs and frappamappachino's in the High Street.
Thunder dancing in the sky.
Miss her
What a great watch.
Excellent presentation.
I was at this air show. Probably the last time I will get to see this lovely lady of the skies "live".
Such a shame, as she is a beauty, and probably the most exciting aircraft I have ever witnessed flying.
When I was in the RAF, we had a Concorde test-bed (Vulcan with Concorde engine strapped below) visit us a few times in the late 1960s.
That, too, was an awesome sight.
Saw a Vulcan at Farnborough flying on 1 Concorde engine as a test bed, awesome
I saw a 3 Vulcan Scramble at an air show around 1979/80...loudest hottest thing I have ever seen...I think it was at an army camp in Doncaster, they put up a railway platform especially for the visitors...the most amazing sight I have ever seen or heard.
Its saaaadd "you will never see another vulcan fly again" it breaks my heart
I always feel that vulcan was the only plane to really feel alive.
She was howling in anger, to fight and to silence anyone who spoke against her country.
A true wonder of the aviation world.
We went to see her at Cosford too. Excellent video! Thanks for sharing :)
Brilliant display and excellent video. I hope to see this great plane at Durham Tees Valley airshow in August. Thank you very much for uploading.
Pity we can't bring it out of retirement to flatten I.S.
A Vulcan was the fly-past when I passed out of RAF Swinderby in 1984
One of the greatest aircraft ever, too bad they are retired now
I think Elwyn R meant the very last Vulcan display at Cosford..
Lol its not the sputtering sound in the background! Saw one at Duxford when I was a boy. It's the most epic sound and sight, when I arrived my balls hadn't dropped, when I left they had...a beautiful monster.
The very last Vulcan Display @ Cosford Airshow 2015
Elwyn R Sorry to borrow your comment - seems to be the only way I can post - I'm sure we'd all love one last barrel roll!
Last display was at Old Warden 4th October 2015
Was there on that show it made the ground shake
it flew at Warrington this year
what about the air display at headcorne on the 15th aug?
Got to see her yesterday at RIAT, im now deaf.
So sad she isn't still flying, will miss the Old girl.
Not the very last, the very last is at RIAT 2015 at RAF Fairford
i saw valcan at bournemouth end of aug 2015
Its going to Rhyl Air show for a display
I can not believe this thing is still flying in 2015. Realize that this design is from the late 60's. What a relic. Not like a modern missile would ever lock on to that in a millisecond.
Jay Sims Not to distract you from the aircraft's greatness... no offence intended.
Jay Sims She was on the ground from 1993 until 2007. She was designed in 1947, NOT a late 60's designed. In fact 558 actually rolled off the production line on 1st July 1960. The first Vulcan flew in 1956. It was from the Vulcan that Concorde came about. The improved similar engines powered Concorde on her test flights in the very late 60's.
Didn't know that .... cool dude thanks. It is even older than i thought though wow cool!
It actually does have a howl!!
To me it is a testimony to the Aircraft itself that it still flew in 2015.
See you at Sunderland later today.....Listen to that roar man
I saw this at cosford 10/10/15 one of last flights :(
I cannot believe this aircraft which took ages to make airworthy and was a work of love and dedication from many enthusiasts has now gone to the "House of the Dead", ie. an aircraft museum. Surely, some wealthy person/s can rescue her.
They had sufficient money. They lost the technical backing required to keep the government hairy plane MOT testers happy. Once they lost that, they lost the certificate to fly.
I agree. There is more to this than a loss of technical backing. The people who fixed it are still alive and their skills would be passed on just as with other elderly aircraft." Something smells in the state of Denmark".
love the Vulcan the noise is tremendous especially the howl. Its just sad to think that like the lightning, buccaneer, hunter and the victor that the British aircraft industry can't make planes anymore unless in partnership with other countries. Or import American designs
how come its been grounded again??
TimBrindleyOfficial Age primarily, she's suffering from impending stress fractures and spares are few and far between, the biggest factor is that there are simply no engine replacements left.
this Government needs to fund this aircraft. It is UK/'s 'Mona Lisa' This delta wing is unique and is worth keeping alive. Not all aircraft but this is the most unique aircraft ever built, the most beautiful, the loudest and the most useful in it's day. Volunteers have kept it flying for years now it is down to the Government to allocate funds to keep such an important part of history alive.
i went to cosford with my air cadets
I got to see it at eastfortune
It can't be the last flight as I saw it at Yeovil today
Brian Reed Read the description!
Brian Reed its at the RIAT too!
HEY EVERYONE. ITS AT THE AIR TATTOO!
Saw this fly in 1959 at an airshow know as the World congress of Flight. Much of the show was at Las Vegas with the flying done around Indian Springs Nevada. It was unique as it had aircraft and air acrobatic teams from all over the world. The Vulcan did some low passes over the crowd, photographing them with the photos posted later in the day. I believe there are some shots of the Vulcan on this video. ruclips.net/video/gpziSAi_VBs/видео.htmlm9s
Time has caught up with the old girl she is already flown 10% longer than expected so not bad really.
This aint the last display, she will be flying at RIAT.
FxHxCLANZz Last display at Cosford.
In practice flights the Vulcan has crashed 10 times, and in those 10 times the crew behind the pilots have died, because they can`t escape quickly enough, you can`t just glide this plane if the engines fail !!
But that howl tho!
The plane really howls! I still think is alive
Even much older planes fly.. it sounds only like money problem.
No. The 'much older planes' aren't in the same catagory, which is (if memory serves) 'technical jet'.
Because of this they have to have have specialist technical support.
Yes money was a factor, but a bigger factor was that most of the people with the technical experience of working on these aircraft have retired. Many came back voluntarily to give the necessary support after retiring. Alas, the companies involved have decided that it all has to end sometime, and that time had come.
As Martin Withers said at the last ever display, " don't cry because it over smile because it happened..."
What a shame. Another Concorde.
This was the last good cosford airshow. I went today and was half the show it was. Bloody dogooders.
another piece of history going to stand and ruin but never forgotton.
It cost £22,000,000 to get it back airworthy and £2,000,000 a year to keep it airworthy. Me thinks the pot is running dry!.
+74ryanmitchell it's more that the airframe is old and there aren't and replacement engines left
Some spend billions on space for a few minutes, use it to save history yes our vulcans And lightning
saw it in my home town, Kings Lynn. www.flickr.com/photos/uncled8249/sets/72157655125121066
Absolutely disgraceful - Allowing her to be grounded :(
Typical of the U.K to give millions in overseas aid every year & stick two fingers up at OUR HERITAGE !!!
Lee .Finney Yes, because international lives aren't as important as keeping 1 plane in the sky...
Wanna bitch about heritage? How about the many steam engine classes that were totally scrapped in the 60s?
dankerthanclanker Gift your wages ( Assuming you're not a dole dosser ) to other countries - if it bothers you that much.
Otherwise - bitch to someone who gives a Shit about your concerns & not me !!!
Hey, all I'm saying is; Human lives are of greater importance than keeping an antiquated plane flying.
I think pretty much everyone who's being looked after by aid might have something to say at the prospect of "Fuck you and your life, we've gotta keep a plane flying".
dankerthanclanker Their Tyrant/ Despot leaders who gain financially from aid sent by other nations certainly don't.
They just think " keep sending it muppets "
I've payed my taxes & donated to charity for nearly 30 years.
So it's -
Keep tw4ts like Mugabe rich or Keep the Vulcan flying = No brainer for me :)
If these dictators are removed from power & the struggling countries are run properly - Then it's a different matter !
Until then.........
Sorry :(
Well, what about the countries that don't have dictator leaders?
In any case, the Vulcan is a private venture. There's also no spares left.
What you're saying is a valid point, to a certain extent, but aid is important.
If anything; it should be HS2 shut down in place of stuff like this. But at the end of the day, the Vulcan is a private venture and not that important in the grand scheme of things.
Also, a some of those dictators were put in by the U.S. (Look into that, if you get the chance. The Middle East is an interesting subject)
Still, a flying Vulcan would be lovely, but with the conservatives making cuts to everything? That shit ain't happening. Which is sad.
The only pain about that airshow, like many others, is the pointless, bland voice-over. Just let the aircraft do its thing - we don't need your waffle over the PA.
