Many thanks to you, Ari, for all your hard work to share your photos and take us along on your travels. I don't know how you make enough time to develop and print so many photos and still get out to shoot them! :) Merry Christmas and all the best to you.
Every Saturday, i'll be here, viewing some of the best photo content available. + 1 for HP5+, the Hasseys, and the Rollei, and shooting B&W--but I mostly appreciate your thoughtful and often amusing approach to your topic.
Thank you Ari, for such intelligent, thoughtful, and inspiring content throughout this year! I‘m watching your weekly upload every Saturday and was never disappointed! Merry Christmas to you and your family! Looking forward to follow you in 2025!
I could hear the Rolleiflex owners stand up and cheer as you announced your favourite camera. I couldn’t agree more. Merry Christmas and happy New Year, thank you for your contribution to our worlds.
Thank you very much for sharing your many photographic ventures over this year -- always inspiring! BTW: In the autumn I shot a lot of Kodak Gold 200 color film, even with a Holga. It still is crappy when it comes to B/W, but it renders colors nicely and with color the "smeary" look can actually give attractive results. Glædelig jul og godt nytår fra Danmark!
Hi Ari, thank you for your vids in 2024. Your thoughts and creativity supports many of us. My story of 2024: After decades I finally started developing film at home early this year. In short I am blown away how much my photography has changed and how enjoyable it has become. Almost every picture counts and each has got a story to tell. Physicalities have changed everything. Merry Christmas.István
It is so true. I just went through a few images from last spring, and I remember exactly how I felt, what the weather was, and how I took the pictures. Thanks for being a part of this, and see you in January!!!
Best wishes to you and your family for Christmas and the New Year from me here in France. Thank you for sharing your photography and your thoughts. Regards,
"Tampere is ranked 26th in the list of 446 hipster cities in the world" -Wikipedia Ari, you are my #1 photography hipster. Thank you for a year of beautiful and inspiring videos, and have a wonderful holiday.
Ive never commented on your channel before but I do enjoy your videos immensely. You speak with real passion and emotion and your pictures convey this. As for the Hasselblad versus Rolleiflex, I own both and have never been able to choose a favourite.
Happy holidays Ari. Thank you for this channel. It has made me think of photography in many new and interesting ways. Ilford Pan-f plus 50, Holga WPC, Michigan USA.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I discovered your channel a few months ago and even though I don’t shoot film, I look forward to your videos. I particularly liked those which touch on intent and emotion as I’m able to think about what you say and sometimes try it out in my digital world. Anyway, thanks again for all of your work, and next time, something else!👍
Happy holidays to you too Ari!. A Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year, Hoping that the year will bring you good health and plenty of photo ops. Hoping Santa Claus brings you a few goodies 😉
Thank you very much, Ari, for all the interesting videos och the inspiration ! The cameras in my collection which I like und use are the Hasselblad 500 CM, the Rolleiflex T3 and the Nikon Fm2n and the films from Ilford. Merry Christmas to you and your family and Happy New Year! Kind regards from Sweden!
I liked your choices. I’m curious to hear which film and developer combinations were your most selected combinations. May you and your family have a wonderful holiday and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos next year.
Thanks for this uplifting year end message! Best wishes to you and yours during the festive season and in the new year. Boat No. 1 … couldn’t agree more! 📷🇫🇮⛵️🇨🇦🌞
What's best ? Difficult for me to make a single choice - I immediately think about "at what?" I only have a single MF - Hasselblad H2 and several backs - so that's an easy one. In 35mm it's a bit of a toss up. My personal favorite is a trusty F3 - she is a very old friend that I'll never abandon On the other hand - when I am chasing the grandkids around the soccer pitch or basketball court - I cant imagine trying to get those shots with the F3 and reach for the F5. HP5, FP4 but also Portra at all speeds. Oh, and I also keep an old Polaroid One Step around for the grandkids, nieces and nephews to shoot and play with. Trying to pass along the craft from their early days. Hey - happy holidays. Thank you so much for your weekly "chat".
True -- this "at what". And that's why I have many cameras and shoot them often. But just for my work, it seems that Rolleiflex is the one that most often fits the bill!
I specifically purchased some Bergger Pancro 400 after watching your videos. To me it looks like there's really bad base fog to the film after you pull it from the developer, but when you scan or print it, it really has beautiful tonality and grain. I kind of really like it. My top 5 films: Kodak Tri-X, Ilford HP5 Plus, Ilford Pan F Plus, Kodak T-Max 100 and Bergger Pancro 400. My cameras are Hasselblad 500CM and Nikon FM2N - that's it, that's all my cameras. My wish list is long though.
True -- it looks scary, but when scanned or printed in a darkroom, it works beautifully! It is a strange film, and I know some people do not like it. Christmas is the time of wishes. Write a letter to Santa: www.lapland.fi/visit/only-in-lapland/how-to-write-a-letter-to-santa-claus/
Thank you for another excellent video. I’m hoping to shoot at least a 1000 pix next year, so less than half of your notable benchmark. It will be much fun just the same.
Uplifting as usual! Here in NZ the only B+W film available from your list is Ilford so that's easy. Most of my photos are handheld in wild or dim conditions which makes HP5+ my go to film.Cheers and best regards for Christmas.
My Rolleiflex is not the f2.8 so I guess I don't have the #1 best camera in the world. But it is very nice anyway. You forgot one category, which is how the camera feels in your hands. For me, that is the Canon 1N HS, which (with the beefy battery grip) feels like a part of you.
Many people say 3.5 is actually better. It's only half a stop, and 3.5 is lighter and probably more user-friendly. But I don't own one. :-) The feeling is hard to measure quantitively, as I did this time. It's more -- well, a feeling!
Very cool video!! I have to try FP4 Plus and now I have to get a boat!! Hahaha Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!! See you in 2025!!! Take a not so used camera out for a date!! Haha
That would be an easy list -- Rodinal, XTOL (actually Adox XT3) -- and that's it. :-) I shot a few rolls of Kentmere 400, too, but did not push it. Gotta try that. Thanks for the tip!!!!
Happy New Year Ari!
I specifically liked the authentic "Data" based analysis in this video!
Cheers!
Film has become a community 🎉
It has!!
Many thanks to you, Ari, for all your hard work to share your photos and take us along on your travels.
I don't know how you make enough time to develop and print so many photos and still get out to shoot them! :)
Merry Christmas and all the best to you.
Thanks, thanks. Time is relative, as demonstrated by Albert Einstein :-)

Very nice to hear. So we'll get back to business after the holidays!

Have a great holiday Ari,,,, See you in the new year,
I could hear the Rolleiflex owners stand up and cheer as you announced your favourite camera. I couldn’t agree more. Merry Christmas and happy New Year, thank you for your contribution to our worlds.

I agree with you, I love my Rolleiflex 2.8e with a FP4+ in it. 😁👌

That's the combination!!!!!!

Thanks, thanks!! We had a snowstorm today, and I shot 2 rolls with my Hasselblad. It is awesome, too. But, the data speaks.... :-)

Ha haa!! Boats are good for you!
Merry Christmas, Ari, or whatever you're celebrating this time of year. Are you thinking of renting out your boat for photo excursions? 😅
You too! We do celebrate Christmas! .... No, that's not in the plans ..... I'm selfish that way :-)
Top-five developers? Re film, I've been shooting 35mm Kentmere Pan 400 @ 1600 ISO. Pleasant surprise for me. Merry Christmas!
That would be an easy list -- Rodinal, XTOL (actually Adox XT3) -- and that's it. :-) I shot a few rolls of Kentmere 400, too, but did not push it. Gotta try that. Thanks for the tip!!!!

Do you know what would be the best color filter for black and white pinhole photography?
Thanks thanks!! Funny, I never used a color filter for my pinhole. But I would be guessing yellow. Add a tiny bit of contrast ...
How about showing us your five 'best' images?
Ha haa!! That would be a qualitative approach, not quantitative, as I did this time. But maybe ....
Hauskaa joulua, Ari
Kiitos, kiitos!
Does the Rollieflex have 4k ? 😎
It has 1000000K
