I was the assistant video tape editor on this concert and this song was my favorite. Such passion and I got to spend time with Lee during the post production and a nicer artist I never met!
How can't you watch this and not feel this dude's passion for a song basically about respect for an entertainer? Ivan is like the polished Joe Cocker of Brazil!
Muki Sumu The lyrics refer to a fun character from the Brazilian carnival (harlequin). The song tells of a time when the country yearned for freedom of expression after so many years of military repression. (🎵 ... to make my people happy again ...)

Drums enter in a marching style, wow what a kick on a chest! All sits very tight. Great song, but what can you expect having such a dream team on board :-) Portugese is very emotional language, for me who does not understand a word :-)
A group of musical masters that created a unique live musical experience. This live version just blows the recorded version away. Great musicians at the top of their craft! If only they had released this on CD and not only on Laser Disc...
I have this live recording on LP, DVD, CD & Laser Discs. To me this recording & especially the performance of all the musical artists are off the charts good even by today’s standards not to mention in 80s. When i got the LP & the Laser discs in 80s, i played it non stop for months on end. Couldn’t get enough of it. Really miss the great Carlos Vega. He left us far too soon.
Lembro de um show do Ivan Lins no ponto do Cem Reis, show gratuito para o povão, no centro de João Pessoa. Foi apenas inesquecível! Só de ouvir ao vivo a introdução de canções como essa é de arrepiar!!!!

@@BadenBattleBase Thanks a lot. When I go to Brazil, like I do every year, I will ask Ivan Lins. We are from the same place, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I know him quite well. Lee Ritnour is married to Carmen, who is from my country too. Thanks a lot for your input on this one. At some point, Ivan Lins was a Yamaha and then Kurzeil artist, which makes sense for the Yamaha NX (classic keyboard and top-rated instrument, along with the Yamaha DX7, very popular in the 80s and 90s).
