This is from a while back, but in case anyone was wondering: dramaturgy is a sociological theory suggesting we all are also actors on a stage, putting on masks and acting out scripts depending on each ‘scene’ we’re in.
Small bit more info I learned as I studied this a bit more: There are three main stages for the “actors” to be on. Simplified, they are: Front Stage: The actor has to follow a script to be keep up the expectations of the “audience” up. This is a fixed play and they must play their role. Off-Stage: This is where there is no audience and the actor can break character without worry of disrupting the play. They feel more relaxed in this stage, although in reality, it is said there is no true off-stage. Outside: The actor is not concerned about their role as they do not have one, they can meet the audience and basically become part of the audience itself, watching the play others are doing. Feel free to correct this info I misunderstood something, still looking into it.
In short, A boy who's empty, doesn't know which role should he be and kinda stand out in a bad way because he's different, he's struggling with identity crisis, hoping for something to change. Meanwhile, society sees him as an enigma and makes fun of him, while themself all go along with the flow and no one within them dares to be different. So the boy for once, gathers his courage, tries to stand up, leads a small group and tries to change something in a good direction, and he only has this 1 chance. However, the man is then betrayed by the group that he trusted, which left within him a deep scar; not only that, while he is in blues, people/society comes and laughs at him for what he did. So this time, he changes again, gives in to hatred and becomes another monster. I don't really like Juby's take on "what reflects in that eye/those eyes" that changes over time. From my take, that line was supposed to aim at the audience/listeners' perspective on the situations, and to the boy's development as well Kinda similar to that " Clean freak" if you ask me
I actually thought it was an individual struggling against themselves and going through cycles of depression and confidence in trying and not trying. The one with the bag is the past self and the one with the black attire and eye is the future self who the character tries not to follow and become, but end up becoming them anyways after destroying what was left of their old self (the bag child).
The lyrics all do say/imply this one character is playing as them all in this stage show no one else is watching. All the characters are this same character.
I personally think Dramaturgy is about a person who doesn't even understand feelings at all. They don't even understand what is their true self, they also feel that we are all actors. Acting as if we were on stage.
Go check out Literary Nonsense by the same artist, Eve. Dramaturgy, this song, came out rather recently. If I can further recommend another cover artist, めありー does lovely covers for these songs.
Just a personal interpretation here but, from personal experience I offer:This song is about a person whois afraid to be vulnerable. They work hard to look cool, be good at work/school, be charming etc., but they don't show any vulnerability, and hide their pain and their love. Eventually that person becomes someone "reliable". They're succesful and look put together, but they've buried their deeper "ugly" emotions for so long and made such a thick wall between themselves and others that now they're alone and "empty". They don't actually have anything except for that persona, and they're afraid to open up to others.
Wow that's kinda what it is I think. But in my opinion the person is not trying to be cool or charming. It's just trying to be perfect for the environment, a clown, or a ray of sunshine to cover up the sadness and protect itself from the possibilile wounds it could get like it did in the past. Being ridiculed and looked down, damaged, and even when it asked help from those who were supposed to be reliable, they just told it to just don't care about it. So it started to play a double agent. An actor that doesn't care about it. It looks really good and all but it doesn't feel real anymore, like no one understands it and everyone is watching to pick up all the success and failures but never seeing the real side of it. And even though she looks like it, she just can't let go of the wounds of the past. Is what I think.
I've been listening to this song for years now. Somehow, I never saw your comment back then, but this resonates very deeply with me. Thank you for sharing.
Dramaturgy is the concept of the never ending play that is life, in which we are the actors. We put on a mask so people don’t know our real identity. But acting is never true. We can never see into a person’s thoughts. We pretend to be someone else, in hopes that we can be liked. But being someone else never works. We want to give up on life, and we don’t know what to do. The play falls apart, yet the actors desperately try to give out their lines. Soon enough, the end roll plays for them. They never say another line. BTW i Just Copied it from someone so i don't take any credits from this
Hitting me close to home. But the song does explain my thoughts on myself and my thoughts on life. Life is a play someone comes it plays there part like a friend or..a family member. When they leave there saying "It was fun but my song is over bye."
@@ronindragoon4155 the thing is that dream (the youtuber) has an animation on him with this song. The comment say voice from a dream and the comment was made 3 years ago. So yeah.......
Based on the title of the song and the lyrics I conclude that this song follows an actor through their life. The title "Dramaturgy" is the theory and practice of dramatic composition and some of the other lyrics in the song also back up that the character singing is an actor. "Climatic ending, come see " - The climax of a movie is the most interesting part, so the actor wants everyone to see it. "Run to front stage, you’re all actors anyway, no one to watch, You’re all part of the play" - It says that everyone around the singer is an actor that has nobody to watch them in the play that is going on at that moment. "The tears that had fallen were not mine to weep " - The tears that the actor wept weren't there's, it was the character that they were playing. "There’s no one inside me There’s no one that’s hiding Always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see" - This is in reference to all the characters that the actor has played, they aren't part of the actor, but they've always been a part of the actor, thus, an empty body as the actor no longer has their own personality, it is the personality of all the other characters. "Headshot, we took it too far But if you aim, go for the heart" - A headshot is well known, a shot that hits the head, but in this context, it shows that the actor doesn't want their performance to be thought about heavily, but instead the actor wants to "go for the heart" which means that the actor wants people to feel the performance, not think too heavily about it.
i'm probably missing the mark here but i feel like this could be about growing up with depression (or having experienced childhood trauma) and struggling to come into your own and have/understand your own identity while feeling a lot of pressure (some imagined, some real) from outside and within because of it. I think the figure in dark clothes represents this as well as perhaps the schemas/coping mechanisms that this person has relied on growing up, as it's not *overtly* an antagonistic figure but it's clearly present around both the main figure's adult and child form (and even comforts the child at one point, adding complexity to the idea of breaking free of the cycle of thought, etc, that can add to keeping people in a bad mental state). We also see at some points through the animation he main figure taking on characteristics of this darkly dressed figure, or potentially giving into their mental/emotional struggles. Throughout all of this of course there is also the allusion of being on a stage, constantly being a performer, and then, more explicitly, the idea that this person feels they have no right to the emotions they have, doesnt want them, but is scared to accept help and loses sight of love and hope and "breaks down". There's also the use of masks, which serves both as a long lasting symbol of the stage/performing as well as a common figurative device people use when referring to coping with their depression and hiding it from others. All in all, I think what we are seeing is what this person feels as the "climax" of their "performance" (life), where a major "turn in the plot" is taking place; I mean this in the sense that they are a person having grown up as a child with depression and have reached a point (adolescent, young adult/adult is how it seems from the art) where they are either having an identity crisis due to constantly having to "perform" or have reached a very deep low mentally/emotionally and this is the moment in the play where we see if they will survive and break through or continue to break down/continue to "perform" and not face the problems and get help. Or some combination of that. It's hard to say if the ending is hopeful or not. We see the main figure spinning, going through all of their masks before losing them. Then, when we go through the dark figures hand it's almost as if we/the main figure is seeing everything in perspective or looking into the bigger picture, and then we see what seems to be the person acknowledging their childhood self and the monster which emerges from it, which could be a childhood trauma or depression, etc., and the long held schemas and coping habits which at one point may have helped them (darkly dressed figure patting the kids head/making them happy), but now hinder them. So we see that they've acknowlegded the problem. However, we then see this monster grow large and the main, adult figure seem to shrink to the child's size, which could suggest that though the person is self aware of these things, the problems are still so large and overwhelming that they dwarf this person or make them feel stuck, mentally blocked and unable/too afraid to grow (hence being reframed as the height of the child in comparison to the monster in the next shot). Then there's the raw moment where the monster tears the main figures face of with its hands as if that, too, were a mask, which could be alluding to the figure feeling even more lost and struggling to find a sense of self after they thought they'd pulled off all their masks. There's no face beneath, only the same monstrous goo. This person feels they have no self now. In the last frame, we don't even see the head, and see traces of the monstrous substance staining the main figure's shirt in a way which almost looks like blood and that they've lost their head, which is at least figurative, but may also be alluding to a literal death. Though, I don't think the end is supposed to be that the person has killed themself, so much as we end on the not ethat they're sort of still in limbo and in the midst of their crisis in a way, especially when we here one final time the reference to performance, "and knowing that those eyes are watching," in such a solomn and almost resigned tone. There's a lot more i could say and i haven't gotten as deep into the actual lyrical content as i can, but this is really long so i'll end it here. That's my take on it
I think that all 3 characters are the same person. Maybe this is the main character when he is older looking back on his memories? At the end you can see him walking away from which seems like a screen.
I think you missed something. The umbrella..? Idk if there's a real reason behind the umbrella but at 2:06 we see the main character having trouble with the umbrella. In every shot he holds the umbrella with I think is his past or his safe place cuz he seem to be unable to go anywhere without it. If we do see his without it he starts to feel unsafe or something like that.
Knew it already fine, misery inside At myself, I would laugh, fallen down behind But I don't know a thing, love or losing, see? So I threw to the side any human in me If I live a lie of shallow words and empty replies Then what am I? Hitting walls of a stage that I couldn't break Then it stuck in my head, gotta run away Playing out like a scene, posing every lead Near the end of the show, waiting in the wing, see? Run to front stage, you're all actors anyway No one to watch, you're all part of the play There's no one inside me There's no one that's hiding Always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see So hurry up and bite down whoever you found Game over, give it up now Mayday, a double agent Struggling over love and discontent And here I wait for something to twist the plot dramatically again Oh you too yes yes so take a deep breath You know how this'll all end Head shot, we took it too far But if you aim, go for the heart We're pulling at the boundary, unseen A curtain dyed in black soon came to be And knowing that those eyes are watching Broke it all with a touch if I do recall Hiding all of the shame, all I did was fall We were young, never bound by a single sin 'Til before we could see, we were monsters in skin But even if I had tried to move on, why can't I leave my past? "Considering it's you, better give up soon" "'Cause no matter what you do, you will always lose" And then I was alone way before I knew Blocking every little thought that I couldn't sit through All they want now is safety from what's around Waiting for help but never learning how I don't wanna think now I'll play dumb anyhow Always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see So standing at the front line and maybe this time I'll be there with a flag high Outmatched but easygoing Never gonna need a script with me And here I keep them burning to twist the plot dramatically again Oh you too yes yes so take a deep breath Swear that you'll see me again One chance is all I have now And so I better make it count Climatic ending, come see The final act, I'm shaken to my knees Yet crying and lonely The world that I locked out is nowhere to find The people who mocked me are gone from my sight Emotions and feelings are useless to keep The tears that had fallen were not mine to weep The kindness and warmth, I can't feel them at all The hands that are offered, I'm scared that I'll fall The hole dug inside me can't hold any love Instead you can see me break down from above Hey, remember when you saw that they were nearing their end? And you looked like you were laughing at the pain they were in? But what did you see, oh really what could it be? Well take a breath 'cause you'll need it, so c'mon Saying always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see So hurry up and bite down whoever you found Game over, give it up now Mayday, a double agent Struggling over love and discontent And here I wait for something to twist the plot dramatically again Oh you too yes yes so take a deep breath You know how this'll all end Head shot, we took it too far But if you aim, go for the heart We're pulling at the boundary, unseen A curtain dyed in black soon came to be And knowing that those eyes are watching
I've been studying the metaphorical stance of this abstract artwork of a song for a while, and I think it has something to do with insecurities, the past, the present, and the future. We have three characters wearing mask: A child, a teenager, and a more adult-like character. The middle character is the only one who seems to have a face. The face behind the mask could represent sincerity--when you wear a mask, you hide or alter an aspect of yourself, but the prescience or lack of a face in these characters could also represent the prescience or absence of the ability to take off that mask and have an identity left to express--the ability to come out and be sincere. In the end, the character turns around to realize that the present has already become the past(the child character grows up), and part of their face is torn off/the ability to change things/make things right is gradually being lost as they wait and let time pass them by, too anxious and insecure to do anything. The past is out of our control, and the future is out of our control, so they're faceless and wear the mask of the people they make themselves out to be. The past looks like a child because people look back at themselves at a time when they might have thought they were mature and think "aw, I was so cute/I was just a baby!" The future is mysterious and perhaps a little more mature, but it wears a mask as well, something the character wants to overcome. They want to be their true self, they want to change the future, but the inevitable happens as they let those opportunities pass them by, and they lose the ability to distinguish who their true self was because they've been repressing it for so long. That's what I got! Please don't procrastinate. Life is a gift. Follow your heart, which will direct you to your role like a character in a story, don't let your aspirations become abandoned regrets--in the end, no one's going to be held responsible for your life and all the things you let pass you by but you.
coming here from will stetson's cover. i dont know how translating these songs and then converting them into lyrics works, but i think that its really interesting that at 2:37 both covers have the exact same lyric, "Once chance is all I have now" its also really interesting how both versions of the translations convey the same meaning/story and yet the words themselves are so different. idk it just blows me away, language :')
I used to listen to this at like 14/15 and felt connected to it, listening at 20 I'm like girl .... I was rightexept I'm so much worse always faking and putting on a show, and failing,I strive everyday to someone I'm not to be this perfect Idea I've composed in my own mind
This song hit so close to home for me... especially the visuals. It just encapsulates this feeling of isolation and emptiness I’ve been feeling... I can’t even fully describe it in a simple RUclips comment... it’s just... this is me. An empty shell wearing masks to suit the occasion while I hide the emptiness inside from the world and slip deeper into depression. Acting out the parts I’m given in a sick play and waiting for the curtain to fall... these metaphors are just perfect
Hey so I wanted her lyrics but I couldn’t find them in a website exactly, so I made them myself. Feel free to enjoy and use them: Lyrics to dramaturgy Knew it already fine, misery inside At myself, I would laugh, fallen down behind But I don’t know a thing, love or losing, see? I'm definitely late to the party on this but here's my theory on what this song means. So first, the overall theme. It has a lot of theatre metaphors, leading me to believe it's about someone playing a character of some kind. Plus the line "double agent" further imply this. But that's not all. The singer claims "my body is empty" which makes me believe they don't have a personality. This is further solidified by "a body but nobody here to see" The song is about someone putting on a persona for so long they forget who they are, or just lose their personality in favour of pretending to be like whoever they're with wants. A sentiment I can relate to, unfortunately, but that's in the past. Towards the end, we see someone pulling the mask off the singer's face, with some sort of liquid coming out of them. I'm going to assume the liquid is blood, and say that it's symbolic of someone forcing the singer to be themselves, even though it makes the singer uncomfortable or perhaps hurts the singer. I'd like to end this by analysing the title. "Dramaturgy" is the theory and practice of dramatic composition. So in a metaphorical sense, putting on a persona for the sake of socialising could be seen as a form of dramaturgy.
Hello! I’m a Japanese. beautifulvoice! and Eve is famous in the World !!!! I’m glad to know this! I’m not good at English.😅 Sorry if my English is incorrect... (´・ω・`) 訳) こんにちは! 私は日本人です 綺麗な声ですね! あと Eveさんが世界で有名ということを知って嬉しいです! 私は英語が苦手です😅 私の英語が間違っていたらごめんなさい(´・ω・`)
Your comment was 4 years ago and I do apologise if you don’t understand me but you’re English was beautiful and I do agree her voice is beautiful and eve is amazing.
My abusive father showed up out of nowhere today and ruined my day, but Juby uploading always makes the day a little easier 💙 Edit: Holy crap guys, I never expected all the likes and comments! Just wanted to say thank you, and you all made me smile!
Kιтѕυиε Sαιყαʝιɳ ソン ケーシー I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you're able to distance yourself away from him soon! If I could I'd German suplex him for you. These hands here are rated e for everyone
I think at the end it was showing it being replaced because mask stands are interchangeable, it's the masks that matter. It also showed the face under a mask was a mask it's true self the face beneath if there is one is still further away and the mask wearer itself was a act. Though I think it might be saying that it's masks all the way down to the body.
In short, A boy who's empty, doesn't know which role should he be and kinda stand out in a bad way because he's different, he's struggling with identity crisis, hoping for something to change. From my take, that line was supposed to be a question to the audience/listeners' perspective on the situations and to the boy's development. And yes, I think all 3 characters in the MV are just 1 entity. Just my take on the song sung by Eve, kinda similar to that " Clean freak" if you ask me
I agree. I try to enjoy her covers for what they are without looking for the deeper meaning. If I wanted the deeper meaning I'd listen to the original (since I'm fluent in Japanese). English translations lose some meaning or changes the outcome.
Perfect timing! I’m painting and you are one of my very favorite people to listen to while I do because of the sheer emotion you convey with your voice!!! Thank you so much, and I love you very dearly.
my theory: this song is about how the whole society and human life is a play, where you get so used to wearing a mask and playing a role that eventually your identity melts with it and you don’t know who you are anymore
My personal theory is that the guy is an actor who signed some sort of contract with a studio that basically screwed him and he's fallen into depression and instead of people supporting him they just make articles on how he's having a mental breakdown, meanwhile he's stuck working for this studio because of the contract and is just getting more and more depressed. Not the strongest theory but whatever. :P
Mum - Get your head out of those electronics and STUDY! Me - Okay mum Phone beeps with notification 2 seconds later Me and Mum in front of the laptop Me - Hey are we forgetting something? Mum - Nah
The world that I locked out is no where to find The people who mocked me are gone from my sight Emotions and feelings are useless to keep The tears that had fallen were not mine to weep The kindness and warmth I can't feel them at all The hands that are offered, I'm scared that I'll fall The hole dug inside me can't hold any love Instead, you can watch me break down from above Omg so deep I love it.
Ever since Ano Ko Secret you got me absolutely hooked on listening to Eve's stuff and this has been the second most looped song of his I've listened to! Hope for more!
I can't stop listening to this song, You, Aruvn,Eve,Amatsuki, and everyone are singing it- Eve has become a virus Edit - Rib has one too, Also Tell me If there's another one. Edit Again lol - Thanks for 89 Likes! ;~; You guys are awesome Edit in almost 2018 - Man! Thanks for the 109 likes guys!! Edit in December - Thanks for 278 likes guys! Soraru and Akatin also did the song so I thought I'd add that thanks to some peeps. Edit in December x2 - Also Itou Kashitaro did as well.
I don’t really know what I’m talking about but what I think happens in the song is that their is a person who starts taking on different personalities to stay friends with different types of people and then their friends find out about this and want to know which is the real personality (what’s behind the mask) but the person has been acting for too long and has forgotten who she was to start with becoming an empty shell. This makes their friends think that they are trying to hide and think worse of them. The person then unsure of what to do isolates themself from society just going about their daily life pushing out emotions cuz they feel they have no reason for them cuz they don’t have friends anymore. The person then starts feeling lonely but is too scared to talk to people cuz they are scared that people will think they’re hiding something again. Then they start having mental breakdowns because they are scared, lonely and don’t know who they are anymore. Then they find someone else like them who helps them “take off the mask” and go face the world together. This is just my opinion, I’m not saying that any other opinions are wrong.
Fun fact: The eye guy appears in 2 other Eve music videos. (Literary Nonsense and (cameo) heart forecast.) Edit:A whole bunch of eve characters appear for a second in the MV for Last dance.
addition: characters from tokyo ghetto, last dance, dramaturgy, as you like it, outsider, especially the guy who constantly appears in mvs, are all present in How To Eat Life
I've had the original on repeat for like a week or so, because I love it so much, and your cover is so nice. Your voice fits the song so well and I just love it so much. Like I don't have words for how much I love this. Juby, you made my night. Thanks.
I love your voice! Even if it was hard, the lyrics sound amazing!! I love how you can sing quickly and is able to continue singing at the few deep parts that usually go monotone when someone attempts them!
I was just watching RUclips randomly when this flipping tune comes to my head, me having almost forgotten about this song (it was deep in my playlist) LOOKED THROUGH YOUR ENTIRE CHANNEL TRYING TO FIND THE TUNE! With my only clue that it exists being the tune and the words “may day” After almost giving up I look through my playlist and finally click on this. At first hearing the beginning and thinking it was wrong but then I move my cursor to the middle AND WHAT DO I HEAR??? MAY FLIPPING DAY!! And I started humming along only singing may day! Honestly this was a wild ride but I’m glad I rediscovered this song, thanks brain!
Ok I was literally browsing your channel when this popped up. Coincidences am I right?! Great job. RUclips- No views, 7 likes. Me- Yup makes sense But apparently likes get counted before views despite me being like the 300th person to see this, it does kind of make sense but darn can RUclips be confusing sometimes. As said by Ali_Mori. Thanks for that by the way. Note- if I’m never seen after this RUclips has taken me to an underground facility where I will be fixed from criticizing the RUclips algorithm...
I see this song and it’s writing as someone who thinks life is just a simulation or someone’s watching their life like a TV show (“you’re all actors anyway”) and seeing as it’s a TV show it has to have plot (“waiting for something to twist the plot dramatically again”) and the thought drives the protagonist crazy because whenever their happy they will expect a plot twist like a fight with someone, or someone in their family dies, or a mental health decline
Personally, I think this person is introducing the new society. Talking about acts ... the man representing society judging us and the media on how corrupted it is. The little boy resembles how people are even judged by parents or family members. In the part where juby sings “ those tears aren’t mine to weep” (or something) it probably (not 100% ) meant that there are others out there besides just society judging. Way worse. In the beginning of the song he swings on how others where being part of the play or acting. That meant MOST OF SOCIETY HAS PUSHED US TO NOT BEING US!!!!! Even In the end it show when the guy takes the mask off .. there’s blue dripping down .. it meant that society judged him when he wasn’t wearing the mask when he wasn’t himself. WHEN THEY ARE WATCHING!!!!
This one's really nice and your voice has such a comforting feel to it, even though I thought you'd be screaming out at the chorus :) good job and great lyrics! ♡
You know after listening to your covers for so many years and reading what you wrote as description for this one, I get really curious as to what it'd sound like if you were to create a song of your own after trying so many genres. My apologies if you already did so and I missed it x)
Since my father had such a wild work schedule we never stayed at one play for long. I would try to pretend to be a certain type of person to entertain everyone else. I didn't find myself to actually care for the people around me. I lied to them, I gave them fake stories, I heard their entire life without them hearing about the real me. I surrounded myself with different acts. At one point my only purpose was to help people without them knowing the truth, I hid from the person I was. I still don't know what i actually like because, I had just pretended to like something for someone else. I can no longer tell if I like something or if it's another one of my games. As of now, I'm pretending to be in a happy relationship with someone who I don't even like as a friend.
This song is basically about fake masks people wear to hide themselves from the 'eyes' that are watching them (this refers to the society and its impact on our character to shape our character.) and becoming a stale and boring actor in their own world of drama where they desperately search for a plot twist that would bring meaning to their lives.
Even though those eyes are 'watching' , there is nobody to 'see', because all they do is 'watch' you. They judge you for who you are and don't accept you, so you can't be yourself.
It is so beautiful and so sad at the same time. I love it and feel pain from it. Then again the song is meant to be dramatic after all, and it is beautiful!
This is from a while back, but in case anyone was wondering: dramaturgy is a sociological theory suggesting we all are also actors on a stage, putting on masks and acting out scripts depending on each ‘scene’ we’re in.
Yeah!
Ive loved this song for so long and today in my Sociology class my professor brought it up and I was like OP- Gotta come read the lyrics again lmaoo
Existential crisis time!!!
MAKES SENSE
Small bit more info I learned as I studied this a bit more:
There are three main stages for the “actors” to be on. Simplified, they are:
Front Stage: The actor has to follow a script to be keep up the expectations of the “audience” up.

*patiently waits for the theories and opinions on the meanings of this song*
My theory: When bag thing take mask off her face she bleed.
From my take, that line was supposed to aim at the audience/listeners' perspective on the situations, and to the boy's development as well
Kinda similar to that " Clean freak" if you ask me
I actually thought it was an individual struggling against themselves and going through cycles of depression and confidence in trying and not trying.
I thought he was us: The audience.
I personally think Dramaturgy is about a person who doesn't even understand feelings at all. They don't even understand what is their true self, they also feel that we are all actors. Acting as if we were on stage.
me sometimes
“Acting as if we were on a stage” is actually what dramaturgy (the sociological concept) is all about! So you’re right with that!

BTW i Just Copied it from someone so i don't take any credits from this
Basically: kindergarten to getting inspired to emo phase and at last end of adolescence and off to being an adult
Hitting me close to home. But the song does explain my thoughts on myself and my thoughts on life. Life is a play someone comes it plays there part like a friend or..a family member. When they leave there saying "It was fun but my song is over bye."

Based on the title of the song and the lyrics I conclude that this song follows an actor through their life.
The title "Dramaturgy" is the theory and practice of dramatic composition and some of the other lyrics in the song also back up that the character singing is an actor.
"Climatic ending, come see
" - The climax of a movie is the most interesting part, so the actor wants everyone to see it.
"Run to front stage, you’re all actors anyway, no one to watch,
You’re all part of the play" - It says that everyone around the singer is an actor that has nobody to watch them in the play that is going on at that moment.
"The tears that had fallen were not mine to weep
" - The tears that the actor wept weren't there's, it was the character that they were playing.
"There’s no one inside me
There’s no one that’s hiding
Always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see" - This is in reference to all the characters that the actor has played, they aren't part of the actor, but they've always been a part of the actor, thus, an empty body as the actor no longer has their own personality, it is the personality of all the other characters.
"Headshot, we took it too far
But if you aim, go for the heart" - A headshot is well known, a shot that hits the head, but in this context, it shows that the actor doesn't want their performance to be thought about heavily, but instead the actor wants to "go for the heart" which means that the actor wants people to feel the performance, not think too heavily about it.
Omgg this is so deep thank youu
"Your all actors anyway no one to watch your all part of the play."
I don't know why but those lines are a little unsettling when you listen to them.

i'm probably missing the mark here but i feel like this could be about growing up with depression (or having experienced childhood trauma) and struggling to come into your own and have/understand your own identity while feeling a lot of pressure (some imagined, some real) from outside and within because of it.
On the original envy it was based on a theory that states that society is a theatre, something like that

The neat part about this song is that it's fun to sing when you're happy, yet it's also good to cry to when you're sad
Knew it already fine, misery inside
At myself, I would laugh, fallen down behind
But I don't know a thing, love or losing, see?
So I threw to the side any human in me
If I live a lie of shallow words and empty replies
Then what am I?
Hitting walls of a stage that I couldn't break
Then it stuck in my head, gotta run away
Playing out like a scene, posing every lead
Near the end of the show, waiting in the wing, see?
Run to front stage, you're all actors anyway
No one to watch, you're all part of the play
There's no one inside me
There's no one that's hiding
Always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see
So hurry up and bite down whoever you found
Game over, give it up now
Mayday, a double agent
Struggling over love and discontent
And here I wait for something to twist the plot dramatically again
Oh you too yes yes so take a deep breath
You know how this'll all end
Head shot, we took it too far
But if you aim, go for the heart
We're pulling at the boundary, unseen
A curtain dyed in black soon came to be
And knowing that those eyes are watching
Broke it all with a touch if I do recall
Hiding all of the shame, all I did was fall
We were young, never bound by a single sin
'Til before we could see, we were monsters in skin
But even if I had tried to move on, why can't I leave my past?
"Considering it's you, better give up soon"
"'Cause no matter what you do, you will always lose"
And then I was alone way before I knew
Blocking every little thought that I couldn't sit through
All they want now is safety from what's around
Waiting for help but never learning how
I don't wanna think now
I'll play dumb anyhow
Always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see
So standing at the front line and maybe this time
I'll be there with a flag high
Outmatched but easygoing
Never gonna need a script with me
And here I keep them burning to twist the plot dramatically again
Oh you too yes yes so take a deep breath
Swear that you'll see me again
One chance is all I have now
And so I better make it count
Climatic ending, come see
The final act, I'm shaken to my knees
Yet crying and lonely
The world that I locked out is nowhere to find
The people who mocked me are gone from my sight
Emotions and feelings are useless to keep
The tears that had fallen were not mine to weep
The kindness and warmth, I can't feel them at all
The hands that are offered, I'm scared that I'll fall
The hole dug inside me can't hold any love
Instead you can see me break down from above
Hey, remember when you saw that they were nearing their end?
And you looked like you were laughing at the pain they were in?
But what did you see, oh really what could it be?
Well take a breath 'cause you'll need it, so c'mon
Saying always been me, empty, a body but nobody here to see

Thanks! OMG I love how almost all of them are rhymed ❤
Because of this i was able to finally correctly sing this song, thank you
Anyone else sing the whole song after? I did lol
This is further solidified by "a body but nobody here to see"
The song is about someone putting on a persona for so long they forget who they are, or just lose their personality in favour of pretending to be like whoever they're with wants.

But what happens when they forcefully take of another mask, but didn't realize they found the true face already
Strip the bottom layer of mind and there's only the flesh left
In short, A boy who's empty, doesn't know which role should he be and kinda stand out in a bad way because he's different, he's struggling with identity crisis, hoping for something to change. Meanwhile, society sees him as an enigma and makes fun of him, while themself all go along with the flow and no one within them dares to be different or else they will also become a victim. So the boy for once, gathers his courage, tries to stand up, leads a small group and tries to change something within, and for that, he only has this 1 chance.
Is the reflecting eye part the actual translation for the "knowing those eyes are watching" line?
Yeah, I agree, Juby's cover is mighty fine on its own.

this song is about how the whole society and human life is a play, where you get so used to wearing a mask and playing a role that eventually your identity melts with it and you don’t know who you are anymore
0:08 just so I can play this on repeat
Wish I could find a version without the intro
@@zendenrblx6073me too lol.
i cant believe juby did a cover of this song...im shaking
My personal theory is that the guy is an actor who signed some sort of contract with a studio that basically screwed him and he's fallen into depression and instead of people supporting him they just make articles on how he's having a mental breakdown, meanwhile he's stuck working for this studio because of the contract and is just getting more and more depressed.
Not the strongest theory but whatever. :P
I really needed more punctuation in this.
1:42 I love those funky little dudes
Mum - Get your head out of those electronics and STUDY!
Me - Okay mum
Phone beeps with notification
2 seconds later
Me and Mum in front of the laptop
Me - Hey are we forgetting something?
Mum - Nah
I wish my mum was that cool XD
oof that's mom goals 2018
Ok
Your mom is awesome. I wish my mom was that cool.
Welp, time to get my mum to like Vocaloid and Juby
My favorite thing about Eve isn’t even the music it’s the music videos like they’re so good what
It reminds me of an episode of Popee the performer.
...Specifically Seeason 2 episode 7, ''Hypnotism''
The world that I locked out is no where to find
The people who mocked me are gone from my sight
Emotions and feelings are useless to keep
The tears that had fallen were not mine to weep
The kindness and warmth I can't feel them at all
The hands that are offered, I'm scared that I'll fall
The hole dug inside me can't hold any love
Instead, you can watch me break down from above
Omg so deep I love it.
I have NO idea what's going on in this song. But it sounds good, and that's all I need.
Ever since Ano Ko Secret you got me absolutely hooked on listening to Eve's stuff and this has been the second most looped song of his I've listened to! Hope for more!
I can't stop listening to this song, You, Aruvn,Eve,Amatsuki, and everyone are singing it- Eve has become a virus

Gremlin Monika IKR :D Arvun’s drunk singing was amazing XD
The queen has blessed us again
(Literary Nonsense and (cameo) heart forecast.)
Edit:A whole bunch of eve characters appear for a second in the MV for Last dance.
addition: characters from tokyo ghetto, last dance, dramaturgy, as you like it, outsider, especially the guy who constantly appears in mvs, are all present in How To Eat Life
英語でも雰囲気変わんないのすごい

This is low key, no high key the best English version of a Japanese song I've heard. It's amazing 😍😍
its cool to see how different people translate the lyrics differently to create completely different songs
How come you always do English covers of the songs I get obsessed with and listen too over and over?
This song and yellow is my favorites. Like bro I can't stop listening to them over and over again-
I've had the original on repeat for like a week or so, because I love it so much, and your cover is so nice. Your voice fits the song so well and I just love it so much. Like I don't have words for how much I love this. Juby, you made my night. Thanks.
if perfection doesn't exist then what is this?
The closest Humans can achieve?
Binary Blackhole yes indeed
One small step to sing,One big leap for humanity?
@@binaryblackhole8666 this is flattery
Not really perfect. The song has lost some of the original meanings in this version.
I love your voice! Even if it was hard, the lyrics sound amazing!! I love how you can sing quickly and is able to continue singing at the few deep parts that usually go monotone when someone attempts them!
so amazing!!
本当にすごい!!❤️❤️
高音のとこでキンキンするの苦手だからオクターブ下げてかっこよく歌ってくれるの本当に好き
「その目に映るのは」のとこめっちゃかっこいい!!!
鳥肌たちましたw
Ok I was literally browsing your channel when this popped up. Coincidences am I right?!
Great job.
RUclips- No views, 7 likes.
Me- Yup makes sense
But apparently likes get counted before views despite me being like the 300th person to see this, it does kind of make sense but darn can RUclips be confusing sometimes.
As said by Ali_Mori. Thanks for that by the way.
Note- if I’m never seen after this RUclips has taken me to an underground facility where I will be fixed from criticizing the RUclips algorithm...
Yup... Juby broke RUclips X3
Likes are counted before veiws

That’s so weird though.

I swear I love listening to Dramaturgy. I'v listened to the song 15 times today! That's how good it is.
Just about to sleep it's 12:09, and I'm exhausted. Eyes just close and my phone beeps and it's a new juby song. Well what's a few minutes gonna do.
just heard the ori yesterday and, hoshiet someone actually able to make a translyric out of it 😂 truly amazing!
I need this on Spotify /gen/vvvvpos!!!
i guess staying up till 11:12pm on a school night is okay because i get to see juby upload
サビでちょっとだけ盛り下がるとこ好き
Ahhh I'm so glad there's an english version of this song now! I couldn't find any translations anywhere... Your lyrics are awesome as always Juby (:
I see this song and it’s writing as someone who thinks life is just a simulation or someone’s watching their life like a TV show (“you’re all actors anyway”) and seeing as it’s a TV show it has to have plot (“waiting for something to twist the plot dramatically again”) and the thought drives the protagonist crazy because whenever their happy they will expect a plot twist like a fight with someone, or someone in their family dies, or a mental health decline
Oh wow your voice fits so well with this song it blew me away! I love it and looking forward to your next covers ❤️
WHEN THEY ARE WATCHING!!!!
thespooksterman thanks my guy lol I’m dumb stupid 😂
I see this differently. The song is someone who believes in dramaturgy but when they reflect they realize they are the empty one making excuses.
What the heck?! Your voice is perfect is perfect for this song!

*A Mayday,Double Agent*
I can't get enough with that lyrics!
AAAHH I FEEL LIKE WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED BC I WAS WAITING FOR AN ENGLISH COVER
Doing late night homework and this popped up. *L i f e s a v e r*
Those lyrics sum up my life creepily accurate
Feels good to know thata there are people having had the same thoughts
Eve and Juby go together like coffee and milk you can never go wrong with it
You can never go wrong with coffee and milk. Unless it's in prison because they only have black coffee there, with no milk obviously.
This one's really nice and your voice has such a comforting feel to it, even though I thought you'd be screaming out at the chorus :) good job and great lyrics! ♡
i should give this song to my literature teacher
Ahhh me encantó la traducción al ingles!!! Quedó super bien❤
うぽつです!
its been a while since i listened to some cover. AND I ABSOLUTELY MISS JUBY'S AND NOW IM BACK... I FIND THIS BEAUTIFUL
You know after listening to your covers for so many years and reading what you wrote as description for this one, I get really curious as to what it'd sound like if you were to create a song of your own after trying so many genres. My apologies if you already did so and I missed it x)
Phyllion she did with cruel clocks
it's a cover though?
she kinda did that just now. it´s really good.
Im not really a fan of sad songs but this bad boi is slappin.
I wait every Sunday no matter how late it is for a Juby upload. Its even better with my new computer!
As of now, I'm pretending to be in a happy relationship with someone who I don't even like as a friend.
normally i dont rlly like english covers, but THIS **slams hand on table** THIS IS THE GOOD STUFF
This is sooo beautiful, the lyrics, your voice. Just. AH.
