I was wondering what allemande meant and although it has a few meanings, I think the one that made the most sense was "allemande, processional couple dance with stately, flowing steps". He says "allemande, where have you gone, did I know anything about you?" Allemande used in the song may symbolize the relationship in the song, and the person he's talking about moving quickly (flowing) and disappearing out of his grasp... "the way the wind blows..." this is tied into the way the dance (allemande) is flowing, moving etc :)? that's just my opinion anyways

This song seemed so tragic when I was younger. Now, even though I associate it with an old flame, it doesn't really hit me at all. I think the rhythmic playing may actually take away from the feeling of loss. Given, it feels right at the bridge since it feels like that's when the wind/time addressed in the song would come in a strong gust to take the two people apart. Still, the quiet chords with small progressions would serve better sustained rather than repeated to convey the sense of unalterable loss. Maybe if I ever pick up piano I'll try to play what I just envisioned.
