    I don't know how long you are allowed to keep it before you return it back to manufacturer, but if you have it long enough I for one would be interested how long before it rusts out on a boat. Especially after riding it on the beach where you pick up some salt water. No other feature would be more important for me.

    • @turipz
      @turipz Год назад +1

      The frame is 6061 aluminium, so no frame rust. The kickstand is aluminum, as are the handlebars, handlebar stem, brake levers, likely the wheel rims, and other parts. The chain, spokes, springs in various components, and likely bolts and screws are made of some kind of steel, but that is true for any bike out there.

      Myself for now I'm using a Dahon cruise away 3 speed hub folder 20 inch rims and stainless frame and rims 5 years on my boats cruising and only minor rusting on drive chain when I forget to rinse when done riding .

      @SailAwayVlog  Год назад

      Yeah, of course we can't comment very long term yet, but so far after over a month of very wet conditions there's no rust problem. If you had it in salt water often, you'd definitely want to fresh water rinse it every time.

    A few comments from someone who ran an ebike rental business.
    Higher U shaped handlebars are more comfortable/easier on wrists vs straight mountain bike ones- yours were somewhat high. Unless you expect to go up steep hills without pedaling, a 350w motor is all you need (250w in a pinch) and make sure it is a brushless motor and that battery is at least 36v and 9-10ah min. For comfort, look for one with at least a front fork shock and preferably any type of rear shock or a very cushy seat, especially if bike has regular combo mountain/street tires. The fat tires on yours provide some cushion. For a cat sailing the seas, look for an aluminum folding electric bike with 20/22" tires. It will be a little less comfortable for a 6'2" person to ride, (it will be fine for 5'1" person or child) but you will be able to bring it on dinghy and store it on lifelines in a waterproof bag and it will be in sub 45- 50lb category and less expensive than the Himiway. They should be sturdy enough for allowing a child seat on back of one for Rivers (need protectors to keep small feet out of spokes and places to rest feet and maybe a small removeable handlebar behind seat. You will need to pump spray it off with fresh water and you will need chain lube and should have SS spokes or you coat steel spoke with teflon/conformal spray- salt air will rust stuff quickly.
    Alternative is an electric scooter for adults, lots of brands with high end being Apollo which can carry 2 people in a pinch (Sailing GBU). They foldup compactly and can be store in a cabin or forward locker.
    Sorry for the length...

    You need to keep any bike protected against the salt on board anyway. They're not made for such harsh environment. At least if you buy it and want to have many years of fun with it. Riding in the water or sand the chain and drive need to be cleaned with fresh water each time.

    Good job with the promo review. I have several E-bikes at home and they are impressive. However, your summary makes sense that it would be too cumbersome to get on and off a boat. Especially this fat tire big boy. I suppose a bette alternative would be a lighter weight folding E-bike which would be lighter and take up less space. Or even better electric scooters as you know. Sorry I missed this but where are you headed after Charleston?

I would suggest to have a bike stand on the boat to store it and use the Halyard to lift to/from the dinghy, or even rig up the davit to hold the bike...I feel the bike is a necessary item depending on the age of the sailor...groceries are a bitch to carry a mile. • @SailAwayVlog

    They make kits to turn any standard bike into an electric bike. You should be able to do Rivers bike for under $300 no problem. Just order a kit with the correct sized tires to match the ones currently on his bike, or buy a kit with the mid-drive motor instead of the hub motor your Himiway has. I did a mid drive kit for my nephew a few years ago and it's still running strong with just a battery replacement. But they run more than the hub motor kits.

    Sweet bikes for sure and not a bad price, but no way in h3LL cruisers are going to keep a pair of 75 pound full size bicycles on their sailboats. Forget about the storage aspect of this, you could never lift these into the dinghy.
    If you want a real solution for cruisers, there are light folding e-bikes that are much better choices. We went with GoCycle's, 50-mile range, folds in 10 seconds and best of all only weighs 37 pounds...only thing not to like is the price! But you'll actually use them. These would be nice if you have an RV though.

    Just an FYI
    Im the new owner of this bike. I’ve had it maybe 4-6 weeks. The bike is great, love it. However, I think the exposure to the rain and salt in the sailing/boating environment is not the best? After a few weeks the battery failed. Upon disassembly it was found to be severely corroded, to the point of not being repairable.
    Something to consider before purchasing for a boat?

    Hi. For future reference, for your own protection, consider the difference between review, sponsorship, advertising and infomercial. I would be happy to help you with this. A quick guide: Assume the audience is uninformed. Millions of people write "reviews" for Amazon after purchasing a product. They may not realize your definition of review includes an incentive. Your video should make the transaction very clear. All the best!

  • @jeffgriglack9624

    The instructions are for people with no imagination. Personally, I was hoping to see one that folded. One solution for carrying this on the dinghy would be to just pull up to the town dock, drop off the bike (lock it up), head out to anchor, and go to shore to use the bike. One drawback of all the electric bikes I have seen are that they much heavier than a traditional bike. My folding (me powered) bike is 28 lbs., or less than half of this bike.

  • @CreekRanger
    @CreekRanger Год назад

    For cruisers there are more better options. A small folding Ebike may be much better. Option if interested look at the Lithium battery review on our channel and you will see our pair of folding bikes we use them as “last mile” transportation while camping and sailing. You can also see our electric dinghy.

    I think Charleston City has banned ebikes. A while back a major ebike rental company came in and they didn't like it and decided to ban them from the city. Also the same goes for scooters. It might have changed but I would hate to see one of you arrested or fined for no real reason. Just check it out and see if what I am saying is true or not for your situation.

      Nah, a cop comes in and out of here all the time. Just did a little search and there appears to be several e-bike rentals in Charleston.
