hi carwow, please include "kilometers (range)" and "kilometers per hour (speed)" in your reviews. that would be amazing! edit: km/l would be great too!
The Polestar is beautiful, but it's overpriced. I settled for a Model 3 a year ago although my heart favored the Polestar. But the Model 3 has more range and more features for the same price.
Good choice for the Model 3. Have you driven a Polestar 2 since buying a Tesla M3? I own a model 3 and recently hired Polestar 2 and I can say hands down the M3 is the better car in every aspect.
@@KirkBell Which model of P2 did you hire? Unless it was the 350KW 476hp version you haven't really experienced the Polestar properly. Tesla M3 is unfortunately a very ugly car, and I would say it is certainly not better in every aspect.
I’ve always liked Polestar when it was still just a performance division of Volvo and so happy that I have a Polestar 2 waiting for me in a couple of weeks. Really excited
NOW, in 2021 Polestar 2 is a CHEAPLY made Executive car by GEELY who owns VOLVO. at best the Polestar 2 is a COMPLIANCE car with a GAS car body and a OUTDATED Drivetrain & battery pack. the Model 3 is LIGHTER & NIMBLER than the OVERWEIGHT Polestar 2.
@@markplott4820 Yeah about that, Volvo recently bought most of Geely's shares from the company. Geely now only owns 8.2 percent(and Volvo most likely will completely buyout the Geely's shares in the future). Now Volvo also has full ownership of the production line, research and sales operations in China which is the only non-Chinese company to do so btw.
Agree, I got mine coming in week time. Too excited. For me, I can't stand the shape of model 3 and judging by few friend's experience, build quality is terrible.
@@amitation This is exactly what all non Tesla buyers say to justify their purchase decision. M 3 is most and best selling in many countries for a reason while companies like Polestar is nowhere on the scene. Build quality is way better than you imagine, go drive a Tesla and you will know know what you are missing out.
I test drove both before buying my first EV, well I also tested the Mach E and the ID3 and 4. The Model 3 is so far ahead of all those cars there should be no debate, I bought the 2021 Long Range and it was a no brainer, I don't regret buying it at all, best car I've ever owned.
@@suemathews9696 Uh, just wait a couple of years. Especially, when you are out of warranty. I was thinking of buying model S, but no way, sorry. Speed is not everything.
Ive had my Polestar since July 2021 and i still love to drive it. Its the first car ive really enjoyed driving having been more into sports bikes owning Ducati and Honda Fireblade machines. Early cold starts are a pleasure in the Polestar knowing ive preset the interior to be 22 degrees when i get in the car. OTA's keep things fresh with the latest including battery preconditioning when navigating to a rapid charging station through the built in Google maps - any rapid charging station for that matter! This makes a huge difference as charging speeds tended to build up slowly but not now as I'm seeing 150kw almost from the moment i plug the car in.
@@seriousgameofficial lol. Posted this a year ago. Another year on, I take this stuff for granted now. As I said, I’ve never really been a car person tbh (prefer bikes) but this car has surprised me.
I worked for polestar for a while about 2 years ago and tried their performance model. It was good fun, but you did notice the Volvoesque feeling. The best Volvo I have ever driven would sum up my experience.
I think the Polestar looks a lot nicer, has a much better interior with actual buttons and a better infotainment system. Probably in other regards such as performance Tesla has the advantage. In reality both are decent vehicles, and for the price they cost they bloody should be.
@@jmcvvv2 I've been in both, it doesn't. I understand the Tesla hate but blindly saying things like that doesn't make it true. Maybe the fitment of some things might have a better finish, but overall the Camry (even the SL/SX model) are extremely basic. Tesla's electrics are a little clunky in places but they're incredibly robust and feature packed compared to a Camry. Your Camry doesn't have "dog mode" for instance...
@@GodsGiftToMom No "status"? That's so low on my list of priorities that it doesn't even register. =) Anyway FWIW, I actually get a little (semi good natured) hate from a few bumpkin coworkers but eh, that's their problem.

The most important feature of the Polestar 2 over the Model 3 - the Polestar 2 is a hatchback and therefor a lot more practical than the Model 3. The Model Y is more expensive than the Model 3 so this makes the Polestar 2 a winner for some people. It is also more exclusive than the Model 3 which are quite common - even here in the UK. Model Y is now available to order in the UK but starts at £55k for the dual motor version or you can pay more for the performance version. No cheaper Model Ys are on offer just yet in the UK.
Loving you testing out how easy it is for a car seat to be fitted, you need to do it more often on the videos and also fit a pushchair in the boot people want to see how much room they have left
Chose between Polestar 2 and Tesla Model 3. First drove the Tesla and was impressed. Then 2 hours later I was in the Polestar 2 and it blew me away. I fell instantly in love withe the Polestar. It simply looks stunning, very high quality and super nice little details. We went for the Polestar 2 Dual Motor with Performance Upgrade. One big point is also that the Polestar 2 can pull significantly more than the Tesla. 1.5 T vs. 550 kg.
As a camper, that is significant, except I'd understood that the M3 could tow 1000kg. Is it just the dual motor that can tow 1000kg and the single motor is lower?
@@chrishyde1216 Yes, the Dual motor can tow 1.500kg. The single motor only 800 or something like that. Just around what the Tesla Model 3 can tow. And I can tell you: I have the car since 8 months now and I still love it so much. The acceleration is amazing, it drives amazing, everything is working well, no problems so far and with a full battery you really get easily over 400km, with staying between 80-20%. I noticed 2 things that I wish that they were different though. 1. The trunk door (tailgate): It doesnt have sensors and its huge. You cant open the trunk in any parking garage without being constantly afraid that it doesnt stop in time when you push the stop button. Its super annoying. I got already a scratch because it didnt stop and crashed in the wall. Also the foot sensor for the tailgate is not working that easily. You need to stand in a perfect position, know where the sensor is and what movement you need to perform that it actually reacts. When you carry something, this is just ridicilous and embarressing when you hop around on one leg and try to find the sensor. 2. The Auto Pilot System: it is overall really good, nothing too special, but it works perfectly and you feel very save when using it. The car notices immediatly when someone tends to cross your lane and reacts much faster than any human could do. So this can save a life. It never brakes when it is not neccessary, it is really perfectly set up. BUT, what I really dislike is that the automatic steering suddenly stops at 140 km/h with minimal warning or notification. When you set cruise speed for example on 160 km/h, and you stuck behind another car and only do 130 km/h, the car automatically holds the lane. When the car in front of you is away, the car automatically accelerates to 160 km/h until there is another slower car in front of you. But when you hit 140km/h the auto steering/lane holding function gets automatially deactivated. I do understand the reason, but there is no real notification about that which can be very dangerous, since you are expecting the car to still hold the lane. It only shakes the steering wheel a tiny bit, but not more than it does when you hit or cross the border of the line. So when you are not watching your speed and look at the screen, you might not notice that you actually have to steer by yourself. You should at least have an option to get a acustic noise when the auto steering function gets deactivated. But I would definitly but that car again and I can only recommend it. I am super happy we bought the Polestar instead of the Tesla. We also looked at the Model Y, but its more expensive and doesnt look that great. Also the quality is not on the level of Polestar.
@@kimiisland9802 Thanks for this. However, the manufacturer's website for the Polestar 2 indicates that all versions (single motor or dual, and standard or long range) can tow 1500 kg. If you configure the car and add a towbar then it will show the towing weight, and it's 1500 kg for all.
@@chrishyde1216 Ok, I might be wrong, but I thought it was not like that. Maybe you can call and ask to be sure? But regardless, the dual motor is great, its so much fun. And in the end I guess towing with 2 engines is much better for the car than with only 1.
This was the best comparison to date on electric cars , my wife and I love Volvo’s so I’m leaning towards the Polestar but after watching this review I’m back to the Tesla , also. Cause they are more experienced with electric cars and the charging stations hear in the States, Tesla charging stations are all over the Northeast where we live way ahead of the other stations , although I just heard that Elon’s going to let other brands use the charging stations in the future if not already.
Yeah they have a pilot program in the Netherlands for allowing non-Teslas to supercharge, but from what they said, it's pretty clear that the charging will be much more expensive, and possibly not available in high-use areas, so I wouldn't 100% bank on supercharging for non-Teslas too much.
Had both (in a fashion!). Had a Tesla 3 Dual Motor for 2.5 years, just replaced it with a Polestar 2 Dual Motor Performance/Plus. Yes, range is less on the Polestar but in almost every other way it is vastly superior to the Tesla. The Polestar App is a bit pants versus the Tesla one but as an all round car, Polestar wins. I absolutely love mine! Maybe it was the editing but Matt seemed to intimate the Tesla was better built which is ludicrous, the Polestar build quality way exceeds Tesla and indeed any of the German cars i've had from BMW, Merc and Audi.
Tesla is a German Car from Berlin and a Chinese car from Shanghai. Polstar is a Chinese car from Geely. And yes your right Chinese built cars are likely to have the best build quality. Other than that I dont get all the German is best gumpf......44 years engineering in big auto world wide I would say dont get trapped into nationalising car brands.......your likely to pick the wrong country against the brand.
The Tesla Model 3 front always kinda reminded me of a Porsche. I guess it has a lip that apparently looks like a fish or frog, but I mainly see a Porsche that's been mushed and it looks very sporty to me. The Polestar looks very Volvo but with a bunch of ephemeral "look I'm an EV" qualities. At least they didn't go all the way to having blue lines everywhere.
Porsche doesn’t have a grill front and centre because 911 is rear engine. This makes their transition to EV styling much easier, and Tesla looks like them because of this too
@@Sheldon42 It is an insult to Tesla being mentioned with others. $1T dollar market cap? No contest. They can literally raise like $20B tomorrow and pour that money into whatever R&D and other shit they wish to pour it. 5 more years and it wont be fair to other car makers. Some of them will be acquired by Tesla, perhaps.
@@ahyaan2552 you may be right, I was just automatically making the connection, it's hard to separate the two (especially when the damn thing looks like a typical Volvo as well)
8:40 I’ve heard other reviewers say the complete opposite here as well. That the Polestar is/feels better made than the Tesla build quality-wise 🤔 Are car reviews really this subjective? What’s going on? 🤔
OES 25, it doesn't matter what car they review against a tesla even if that car had a 500 (real miles) range, had the most sumptuous and luxurious interior, NASA speck electrics, 0-60 in 2 secs with top speed of 200mph, the load space of a truck and cost £25K all the reviewers would say the tesla wins because of the charging stations. 🐑all of them.
Depends which polestar tbh. The 2 is fine but the new model 3s are built really well. That one looks to be the refresh with the different consoloe so I wouldn't doubt it feels better than the 2.
@@gidnild701 I have test driven the S and 3, the S won hands down between the two, when I drove the 3 I didn't get the "ooh! I like this" it just didn't feel special to me, my Merc CLK coupe far superior in build and interior, but each to their own.
Really looking forward to when EVs (or other cars with alternate-fuels) become more mainstream! They're still pretty pricey now imo. My old Nokia back in the day was about $800 brand new, 2mp camera and keypad included! But now that smartphones are mainstream, I can get so many good features for $800 and even less! Hopefully these cars reach that stage eventually, would love to have one as a little runabout for town!
You are absolutely correct! I remember the first 32” 720p flatscreen I got and it cost a whopping $700 back then. These days $700 will get you a huge OLED 4K flat screen all 50” and above!! I don’t think many people are truly grasping how much has changed over the last 20 years. In 2002 people were still using AOL and dialing into the internet and now I’m commenting immediately from my iPhone on a Video that would’ve taken HOURS to load back then!
You should also consider that Telsa already said they will open the super charger to any car in the near future. In fact, in Holland it is already live. Next year they will expand the program.
holland is just a test on a few stations. Also they’re in talk to open the supercharger only for cars that can charge without going in the wrong parking spot
Tesla will open up the network if it generates a solid income. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve seen Tesla drivers charging away from the supercharger network even when there is a supercharger nearby, and it’s all down to cost. If there’s a FOC/cheaper charger nearby people will use it. This means that the supercharger network has lots of spare capacity for others (who are less concerned about cost) to use.
@@AlternativPerspectiv They will absolutely open up some of the chargers and have stated this many times. The revenue/advertising opportunity is too good.
Iv tested both the single and dual motors of the polestar. Once you tasted the power of the dual the single seems so slow. So my advice is if you want more range just test the single motor 🙃 🙂.
@@archfxt3619 well tesla are opening them up to other evs. The test are already underway in Holland. So it doesn't make a difference soon. It comes down to what you really want just like most things in life.
I think this applies to all models 3 starting feb 2022. I got my new sr+ delivered 2 weeks ago and the range is still the 278 or whatever. However I noticed chrome delete and just more detailing upgrades on mine than all the models from before.
2:07, the supperchargers in the Netherlands gives now acces to other EV's, you wil pay more than tesla owners, but its cheaper than IONTY or Fastned. The only problem i have seen is that those chargers are opimized for tesla's chargeport position, so with some EV's you will block 2 stalls.
I own a 911 but I still enjoy driving a Model 3. Of course it is not as fun as a real sports car but most people do not buy sports cars. Even though a base model 3 is a mass produced mass market car with no sporting intentions I really appreciate that the engineers cared enough to make it fun to drive. The throttle response is punchy, the steering is quick and not 100% devoid of feel, and maybe most important it has a rear weight bias and is RWD. I cannot find the review but years ago some journalist compared it to the original mini in which the model 3 is a regular car that regular people buy for normal reasons that just happens to be actually fun to drive in a sea of boring cars.
Polestar looks at least five times better, more attractive and in ten years, that bright Volvo look "says that you drive in a vehicle of quality and safety! I would always choose Polestar first ... and only these last lights 🙏 ♥ ️ Greetings from Serbia!
I think EV reviewer should also consider the accessibility and reliability of EV charger as part of their review as well. When I charge at the Tesla supercharger stations, it is guaranteed to work while some 3rd party charge may give issues.. at least in my experience.
Indeed, it's like people who try to compare the mach e to tesla model y. The mach e awd er has over 20kwhs more useable battery capacity yet gets a similar range as the model y lr. Yet somehow people try to claim it's somehow better. Its like yeah no it is not, something with over 20%more battery which gets close to the same range. Is not in any way similar. Kinda like lucid fans crowing about the range of a car which has over 18% more battery capacity than the tesla model s lr. Ok lucid great job seriously, but boil it down and the lucid is about 5% more efficient. Less if tesla only has a useable capacity of around 94kwhs out of the 100kwh packs vs lucids 118kwh pack. Then they claim lucid makes the most efficient ev on sale. Uh no per the epa website the most efficient ev available right now is the model 3 at 142mpge, the most efficient lucid is rated for 131mpge. And there are others outside tesla which have higher than 131mpge ratings. 😀
@@4literv6 That is because the average driver only cares about total range. They don't care if its an 85kw battery or a 100kw battery, they just want to know how far they can go.
@@NotPoodle the average drivers daily commute is under 40 miles total. Every ev made over the past decade and even some made over 100 year's ago now. Could easily cover that distance, an average vehicle also sits motionless for 95+% of it's life. Any electrical outlet in existance can charge an ev at between 3-30+miles of range per hr charging rate. Yet people claim there is no infrastructure for charging evs. 😀
An important point which does not come across clearly is, that the energy efficiency of the tesla is much better, dramatically reducing the running cost of tesla vs other brands. For gasoline-cars, fuel-efficiency is a key parameter in branding, market and testing - why no do the same for electic vehicles? The fact that the tesla gets same range roughly with 50kwh battery vs a 75kwh is astounding => 33% more fuel/energy efficient. As some of us, are also buying electric cars out of consideration for the environment and climate, I think reviewers should have a lot more emphasis on this.
You'd think trying to optimise efficiency would be super important for a manufacturer, as it significantly reduces the cost of the battery needed to achieve a given range.
The thing is that Tesla shows the consumption of only the motor while Polestar displays a total consumption. This and the fact, that the test drive was quite short leads to this enormous difference. The Tesla is actually more efficient, but the difference is not that big. Most tests come out with 10-20% difference.
Range on a 2021 long range M3 is 350 now. When I bought my M3 in 2018 it was 305. My long range MY has a range of 326. The performance MY has a shorter range and "summer" tires. I wanted a longer range and all season tires. The MY also has a heated steering wheel.
Based on my recent long trip I'd choose tesla every time for the chargers. It was a shit show getting a charge at any service stations and having to divert to a tesco car park to charge and then also having to sign up to another charge company 🙃
Great review and the Tesla is an awesome EV, that efficiency is just amazing. Unfortunately for me, I find the exterior styling weirdly dull and featureless with the exception of the front which reminds me of Daffy Duck. The Polestar is less good in some pretty key areas but crucially (for me at least) its good enough and that combined with great styling inside and out, means I would take it over the Tesla without a second thought.
0-60… 7.29 for the Polestar & 5.21 for the Tesla. The difference here is not by time but literally by completely different performance class. Nissan said that 0-60 in 7 seconds was the sweet spot of performance… that was 20 years ago.
A decent stats comparison Matt but what you did was fail to acknowledge that many of us actually spend our travelling time not in the driver's seat and not hussling along but stuck in the slow grind of everyday British gridlocked traffic. The rear cabin space and comfort of the Polestar looks preferable to me as that's the place where I will spend most of my car journey time. I don't need more than 200 miles of range because my bladder will want a break sooner than 3 hours at non-stop motorway cruising. I do value the hatchback versatility and I definitely do not need a panoramic roof or not-quite autonomous driving. I also do not need to accelerate from standing to 60 in 5.2 seconds. As it stands, that's almost never realistically legally or actually possible on Britain's congested roads anyway. I would like usb sockets in the rear (did either have these) and having more space for my legs to sit in a more relaxed and fully supported position would be very much appreciated. The footwell cutouts on the Polestar seem to accommodate me better here. Overall then: I prefer the ergonomics and practicality of the Polestar 2. Hmmm, a mini review from the back seat.
Currently teslas have been delivered without USB ports and phone chargers as they ran out of parts. They didn't even tell the customers. Just admitted it was true when the customer called up. Imagine always having a charged phone until your stuck in the middle of nowhere with a new Tesla.😉. I am happy I ordered a Polestar 2. At least I will get a complete car.
To be fair. Polestar 2 runs Android Automotive. Currently only 1 game, and 1 video app is available in the Play Store. So it’s there, but limited. However this is expected to increase when more manufacturers will adopt Android Automotive.
Trivia Challenge but even within EV’s the Model 3 got like 85% of its advertised range after flooring it, slamming on the brakes, and driving at highway speeds while the Polestar only got like 70%. 4.7 miles/kWh vs. 3.2 miles/kWh means the Tesla gets over 50% better efficiency than the Polestar. It’s crazy how much that varies from company to company, even within EV’s.
More to do with weight and aero than drivetrain I believe, even the worst electric motors get like 70+% efficiency and I bet these two have it pretty close in that regard
@@TriviaChallenge I wasn't aware that electricity was a recent invention? The first EV was released 130 years ago, the battery tech might be new but electric cars aren't!
@@TheJohnboyhunter I think he's referencing the lithium-ion/motor drivetrain, rather than just the motor itself, oh and also, DC brushless motors weren't invented until 1962.
I just did all this.. Ended up with the Tesla instead of the Polestar for one reason. Well, two reasons.. 1: I got it 10K cheaper by buying a slightly used ( 11K miles) off lease and 2: The polestar is V1.0 of a very nice car. Problems remain to be seen or found and more importantly here with stupid drivers, is if someone crunches my Polestar, it would take weeks and weeks to get parts because all the parts are going to the building of new polestars. Now, ask me in 2 years or so when I'm shopping to upgrade and the Polestar all things being equal, will probably win as it's clearly more refined as a high end car vs the Tesla.
I would love to see you do a video on EV charging in inner-cities, where most people have to park in the streets, and EV zealots say just charge at home. Love your video’s Matt.
@@Ifyoudonttakeitucantfakeit Be honest, would you? I have a friend who lives in inner Melbourne, and he uses his car on nearly a daily basis, and not just in Melbourne, as do many many thousands of people. It would be impractical to do so.
I live in an apartment in a city center. I can't charge my Model Y LR at home, but there are countless (often free) charging options at shopping malls, supermarkets, etc (if you can't charge at work). It's really not a problem at all.
Perfect video 😍 Currently debating which one of these two vehicles to get in Australia... Tesla 3 59,990 or the Polestar 2 also 59,990 The Tesla 3 just got a bigger battery for no extra cost and the Polestar 2 still wants that 5k for extra safety but it's a nicer looking car. Hard decision!
Tested both these cars this past week. Polestar is a much, much nicer place to be to do long distances. The Tesla bounces along the motorway AND this is the big one. You cannot turn off regen on the Tesla anymore, to meet EPA range. It means a much less relaxing long distance drive. Unless you use autopilot. The biggest problem with both these cars is their dual motor versions. They provide ultra safe driving when driving fast on rural roads. My pick Polestar 2 Performance. Phenomenal.

I love the traditional car styling of the Polestar. I love the performance output of the tesla, but absolutely HATE the fact it doesn't have a cluster mounted in front of the driver and relies on the centre tablet for all of the info. Also, that I could find in my research yesterday, the Tesla superchargers in Australia are limited to 120kW. Whereas other charges are able to charge at higher rates(when the vehicle is capable of this).

I don't know what that is supposed to mean. The Tesla drives like a normal car too. they both drive like EVs. The Tesla feels a bit more like a video game. That's the only difference I notice.
Kael agreed. I don’t even have any dislike for Polestar, I hope just as many people buy it as the Model 3. But the Model 3 is in a class of it’s own. I’d even agree at the higher end, like the model S and X, competitors like Audi and Porsche have better cars for the price. But the model 3 at 40-50k is an absolutely insane car for the value. It’s gonna be a long time until competitors can offer exactly what the Model 3 does at its price range and still be profitable off of them. At the high end, I’d go with the competitors, but at the lower end, Tesla definitely wins IMO.
@@philorgneopolotin8762 The only thing that's "special" about the Model 3 is it is a sedan. Other than that, it's an EV. the Polestar 2, as much as the auto media wants to make it a Model 3 competitor, is not a Model 3 competitor. The XPeng P7 does compete with the Model 3, even on price. The 3 may edge it out the 7 in some areas but that is one car that does.If and when Hyundai and Kia decide to make an EV sedan, also, the Model 3 would have more competition. Polestar wants to compete with Porsche and they're going to make higher end vehicles and full EV vehicles and not a Volvo hybrid electrified derivative that the Polestar 2 is now. I'm happy to see the Model 3 have success because I'm sick of crossovers everywhere and a popular sedan is a good thing. The industry is just shoving crossovers down our throats and people are buying them. There are just no other ground-up EV sedans (Polestar 2 is a hybrid, not EV platform) other than the XPeng P7 that I can think of that are sedans. The BMW i4 is more expensive. If anything, that's what Polestar 2 sees itself going up against but they know their platform can't really compete with it.
after having lived for 1/2 year with a Model 3 2021 LR, you learn a lot of the car.. i switched from a Passat 1.4 TSI Comfortline Premium fully equipped passat variant, and still have my old 2019 6MT Polo GTI. i must admit i feel like the Tesla, is mostly an marketing exercise, in "it is fully loaded", nothing really is as "good" as can be. examples. 1. I don´t have the full Autopilot, but it still has Adaptive Cruise and the Lane assist. but it is FAR less functional than what i had in my 2017(2018 facelift) passat, Adaptive cruise, has ghost breaking, it captures wierd speed limits, and even if switched off it will try to adhere, the lane assist panics at simple things, like a bike lane doing a turn, it panics and emergency brakes, has done it multiple times, i do not use that feature anymore 2. the software seems snappy, but only in "front mode" all apps take ages to load, and run in 720p or less, Netflix is a day and a half to load, but it does work 3. the autodim mirrors are just WIERD, WHY is it set to "how dark it is" so when you hit night, it will all go to "DARK" even though in a normal mode, so at dusk, all mirrors can be fully dimmed, i am used to them REACTING to other cars light instead - REALLY annoying. 4. Noise and vibration are quite a lot in the car. 5. tesla service SUCKS, they do solve your issues, where VW has "this sucks on all the VW so accept it" but we only have 3 centers in Denmark, and waiting time is more than 2 months. Quality issues are ALOT, so with the waiting time .. min has run 17000km i have had plenty of issues From new, Grime on all surfaces (oil), defective tire, needed a 4 wheel measurement (steering wheel 15degree crocked) , needed alignment of 3 doors, hatch) wirelooms visible in car, needed to be hidden.. Honestly, all cars have issues. But it's interesting to hear from someone who just had the car and isn't under the Tesla/Musk spell. Will you go with another EV? If so, there are more choices now.
@@benjaminsmith2287 Yes, i like the EV drivetrain, i would go with the following today, BMW I4 M50, Ionic 5, EV6 the BMW purely for the brand the Ionic and EV6 because of the quality of the Korean area, the Petrol based car is dead, i just really think that Tesla is overselling a product, i DO like the drivetrain, the power the steering is fine. but i miss decent seats, i miss the refinement, and actual "good" solutions, and i like the "update" part of a tesla, but sometimes you feel a bit like a BETA tester, and wierd things like having MATRIX LED, but not having it really enabled. i´ve been in MULTIPLE Chinese cars and they are FAR better assembled then my Tesla from Freemont, i have also seen a lot of Model Y´s coming in, from china, they are also of a better quality, so Tesla biggest problem might be the american workforce (who blames them with the corporate way of doing things in the us) i also HATE the "ELON" way that we all have to do it "ONE"WAY like, for instance it has Google maps. and somehow we don´t have ALTERNATE routes, only freeway based routing because of charge stations from Tesla, but if i use regular roads my average consumption is 132-138wh/km if i use freeways it is 180-210wh/km, so the difference is a lot, so sometimes loosing 5-10 minutes taking a 200km journey on a "normal road" gains me 200km range (610km on a full tank) compared to 410-450 on the freeways, but NOPE... only the freeways, as ELON says it, it is the fastest the rest will just be wasted time.. (well i can go to and from a place without charge, so it might save me a total of 30 minutes, but HEY i apparently am owned by tesla) I would NEVER buy american produced again, i think that is the main take i have for the Tesla but also being a part of a TESLA cult, is not a good thing, especially if your not just a "EXTREME fan" so FANS are mad, if you say the least bit negative about a car, and you are attacked by "the opposite" just if you drive a Tesla even if you NEVER talk about it... there is so MUCH negativity around it, i am forced to own this car for 3 years unless i change company, so i guess i have to live with it.
6:30 I’ve heard other reviewers say the opposite. That the Polestar drives quite well, even that it's fun to drive. Maybe it is because they drove the Ohlins damper version of the P2 🤔
Really enjoy your car tests. However I believe that you got people from all over the world looking at your videos and I think many would like to have range figures in km as well.
I just do not understand how the car industry was forced to spend billions and years to adopt WLTP and it is still shockingly inaccurate. What should happen is that range/mpg data gets updated based upon real world data from actual driving across all the owners in the country in question to provide a much more accurate assessment. Polestar being able to advertise a range that is the best part of 100 miles adrift is an absolute deal breaker for most. BTW, why not just run the two cars one behind the other on the range test to eliminate as many variables as possible. Tesla still streets ahead
I will never see the interior of the model 3 and think mmmm yes that looks good Same with the exterior tbh but I could get over the fish look and panel gaps but that interior just looks unfinished

Unfortunately there is plenty of things missing from your review. I see this all the time with car reviewers as they are used to reviewing legacy auto (albeit you are in the upper bracket, you usually do a pretty good job with this). You compared typical "car" features, but Tesla offers so much more. Sentry mode, entertainment, different drivers profiles applied automatically (and now I'm the cloud), constant OTA updates making the car continuously better and not getting behind on features versus newer models, the on board navigation taking into account charging automatically and using this information to preheat the battery before charging, the ability to remotely set climate settings to for example preheat the car while you are eating, the camp mode, the Tesla app and many others.

All cars have all the functionality out of voice control you can ask for, other than gimmicky and stupid shit like “open my glovebox”.
Great review. As a former firefighter could you also include the safety rating of the vehicles reviewed so purchase choice can also factor in level of safety provided.
It's not a comparison with a ground-up EV competitor. The media is making the Polestar 2 a Model 3 competitor. The point of the Polestar 2 is to give Polestar an entry-level car until it makes more cars. It wasn't to compete with the Model 3. An XPeng P7 is something that is much more competitive with a Model 3. There aren't a lot of sedan EV's out. The Model Y is going to have more competition than the Model 3.
Maybe add some Chinese EVs in the mix and lets see. If I see Wetsern channels it appears there are only two EV companies in the world and rest are ICE cars.
@@benjaminsmith2287 so true as the Polestar isnt a dedicated EV platform, they should be using something more like the KIA EV6 as this is a dedicated platform, which matches Tesla is so many ways especially charging speed and range.
Personally, the best would be Polestar exterior + Tesla interior, but with just HUD display instead of the screen in the middle. Simple and minimalistic.
I like Polestar's minimalism better because it has a design aesthetic that more carefully considered modern materials. The mistakes are the too much black in the interior headliner and the middle console.

Aren’t they common because they’re better?

213 vs 312 Wh/mi, enormous difference.

We’re waiting for the Taycan vs EQS vs Model S vs Lucid Air comparison soon
0-60… 7.29 for the Polestar & 5.21 for the Tesla. The difference here is not by time but literally by completely different performance class. Nissan said that 0-60 in 7 seconds was the sweet spot of performance… that was 20 years ago.
NO ONE in the fucking world ever does 0-60 in reality, all that matters is sufficient poke for overtaking, both these cars have plenty
@@sandersson2813 says the person that drives the slower car 🤣
"Normal car" is code word for "obsolete old tech". The drivetrain efficiency difference is stagering.
EVs are 1000% better to drive than 100 year old tech.

Teslas aren’t even version 1.0. They are constantly in Beta, especially the software!
No adaptive cruise as standard lol. Amazing when the GR Yaris throws it in - a car you'd never think would bother with that.

take tesla model 3 for a test drive, charging. then decide.

The Polestar "drives like a normal car": Surely that's a good thing?
But it doesn't mean it's different from a regular petrol car so not that much smoother or sportier
I don't know what that is supposed to mean. The Tesla drives like a normal car too. they both drive like EVs. The Tesla feels a bit more like a video game. That's the only difference I notice.
The Polestar is 'alright' but a Tesla feels a bit like a spaceship. Test drive both and see what I mean.
If anything, that's what Polestar 2 sees itself going up against but they know their platform can't really compete with it.
after having lived for 1/2 year with a Model 3 2021 LR, you learn a lot of the car.. i switched from a Passat 1.4 TSI Comfortline Premium fully equipped passat variant, and still have my old 2019 6MT Polo GTI. i must admit i feel like the Tesla, is mostly an marketing exercise, in "it is fully loaded", nothing really is as "good" as can be. examples.
1. I don´t have the full Autopilot, but it still has Adaptive Cruise and the Lane assist. but it is FAR less functional than what i had in my 2017(2018 facelift) passat, Adaptive cruise, has ghost breaking, it captures wierd speed limits, and even if switched off it will try to adhere, the lane assist panics at simple things, like a bike lane doing a turn, it panics and emergency brakes, has done it multiple times, i do not use that feature anymore
2. the software seems snappy, but only in "front mode" all apps take ages to load, and run in 720p or less, Netflix is a day and a half to load, but it does work
3. the autodim mirrors are just WIERD, WHY is it set to "how dark it is" so when you hit night, it will all go to "DARK" even though in a normal mode, so at dusk, all mirrors can be fully dimmed, i am used to them REACTING to other cars light instead - REALLY annoying.
4. Noise and vibration are quite a lot in the car.
5. tesla service SUCKS, they do solve your issues, where VW has "this sucks on all the VW so accept it" but we only have 3 centers in Denmark, and waiting time is more than 2 months.

@@benjaminsmith2287 Yes, i like the EV drivetrain, i would go with the following today, BMW I4 M50, Ionic 5, EV6 the BMW purely for the brand the Ionic and EV6 because of the quality of the Korean area, the Petrol based car is dead, i just really think that Tesla is overselling a product, i DO like the drivetrain, the power the steering is fine. but i miss decent seats, i miss the refinement, and actual "good" solutions, and i like the "update" part of a tesla, but sometimes you feel a bit like a BETA tester, and wierd things like having MATRIX LED, but not having it really enabled. i´ve been in MULTIPLE Chinese cars and they are FAR better assembled then my Tesla from Freemont, i have also seen a lot of Model Y´s coming in, from china, they are also of a better quality, so Tesla biggest problem might be the american workforce (who blames them with the corporate way of doing things in the us)
i also HATE the "ELON" way that we all have to do it "ONE"WAY like, for instance it has Google maps. and somehow we don´t have ALTERNATE routes, only freeway based routing because of charge stations from Tesla, but if i use regular roads my average consumption is 132-138wh/km if i use freeways it is 180-210wh/km, so the difference is a lot, so sometimes loosing 5-10 minutes taking a 200km journey on a "normal road" gains me 200km range (610km on a full tank) compared to 410-450 on the freeways, but NOPE... only the freeways, as ELON says it, it is the fastest the rest will just be wasted time.. (well i can go to and from a place without charge, so it might save me a total of 30 minutes, but HEY i apparently am owned by tesla)
I would NEVER buy american produced again, i think that is the main take i have for the Tesla
but also being a part of a TESLA cult, is not a good thing, especially if your not just a "EXTREME fan" so FANS are mad, if you say the least bit negative about a car, and you are attacked by "the opposite" just if you drive a Tesla even if you NEVER talk about it... there is so MUCH negativity around it, i am forced to own this car for 3 years unless i change company, so i guess i have to live with it.

And now to The important question how long is The lifespan on the batteries and what does it cost to replace it when its ended 💸💸
Wagon version of Polestar 2 could potentially be... amazing!

I would have thought that the Model 3 might have some genuinely good competition by now.. But this video proves just how far ahead they really are..
