I looked into G scale but it was beyond my budget. I was able to get the Menards track for about a dollar per foot. I’m using No-ox on the track, which will greatly reduce the corrosion problem.

I'm jealous that you get to have a garden railroad, can't have that living in a apartment building.
Once the garden railway is complete, I'll be tackling another project that might work with your situation: a ceiling railway.
Why not g scale? And how will you deal with rust on the Lionel track with it out in the weather?
