So refreshing to watch Rob Machado and Stephanie Gilmore surf.....He's actually SURFING..... Sooooo tired of watching jerkey jerk surfing regardless how high they are rated on the professional tour. Actually it seems like the best surfers to watch these days for smooth and fluid surfing are the women surfers or surfers in general who aren't on the pro tour and trying to do a thousand off the lips for every wave...........
This comment above me 100%. Rob's not fighting the wave. He's part of it. Going where it take him, but also taking control on his turns. His speed and flow are such a refreshing change. Not hating on aerials or today's surfers, but this is just such a joy to watch.
Machados timing is excellent! Given his weight is only 145lbs ish... his turns are timed perfectly and placed in all the right spots. That is what decades of dedication and discipline produce. Such a treat to watch.
I watch yout friend cris on the net. I am leaving to france again to be enside the icean as usual for depths. I am not a lot in thr mood of paiting. Enjoy the city both of you i can t anymore with them. I don t know where is your other friend i met in nice. He was passing by on the bicycle. I go to corsica again and try to find the way to stay if is possible. Allways enside the ocean. Hugs. And enjoy as much as you can. I will try my best!!! Besos grandes!!!
I am not, nor will I ever be, as good as Rob. But I can surf just like this and its a BLAST. Clean and perfect headhigh surf can be more fun than high risk for high reward dangerous surf..... which I've done plenty too... And is exactly when and where Rob leaves me WAY behind. Don't forget, only one out of 10,000 become professionals. And only one out of a hundred professionals get to Rob's level. I am a top tier amateur. There's an infinite gap between great amateurs and average PROFESSIONALS. Long live Rob.... who's an all time great.
I like how on the mid-length he sometimes top turns out in front of the pocket with a carving, kind of combination top turn/cutback which angles down all the way to the bottom of the wave, like the last wave 2.36. Normally I see people either top turn in the pocket or get some speed and then roundhouse cutback to the foam. I'm gonna try this. Anyone else do this?
