Midnight Special introduced Prog Rock to the USA. We couldn’t hear the great British Prog Rock bands on our radios back then. At least not in the Midwest where I lived. Thank You Wolfman Jack for opening up a new world of rock, to Americans.
Yes, they detonate. You must be very young compared to your time. In the early '70s and beyond, there was insane diversity in music and me and most of us loved everybody. It was hard to find bad music. Focus was a Dutch band, which became known worldwide through a song, Hocus Pocus. And from then on, people got to know her albums and saw that she was fantastic. From A to Z, the 70s seethed.
@@delmedeiros3570 Just listened to Hocus Pocus. I remember that one. I just didn't know their name, but yeah, I was only about 10 when that came out. ✌️
@@tamarabrugaraI was wondering why it's so much longer than the three and a half minute version originally released... has it been edited to include out-takes, or was the original edited down for TV?
last friday it was the whole program with 4 songs of Focus and it's the same thing, edit beginning and end of the song, as i told, Gladys Knight lost too much time to talk everywhere in the program and also the Wolfman Jack sont was not necessary, they had to figure it out Wolfman in another program because Focus have to play complete 4 songs ....it's my opinion....
Especially when you're a Dutch group from an era when our English proficiency wasn't what it is now. Thijs's English is somewhat conversational but it has a lot of dutchisms that would become distracting if he tried to write I think. Golden Earring had very good lyrics but Barry Hay is a native speaker.
@@gregoryduncan3067 Yes, that's it. But I also like songs composed only for instruments and then someone writes lyrics to the melody of the song. There are also bands with instrumental conception and that have vocals. The Colosseum Second group is an example.

I believe this song is actually ‘Answer? Questions! Questions? Answer!’ From the album ‘Focus 3’
You are indeed correct.
Yes, that’s right! Just a little excerpt of «Focus 3» from 0:00, and «Answers? Questions! Questions? Answers!» starts at around 0:38 0:39
Straight into my Midnight Special Prog Rock playlist.
(:
Fantastic Band.
Únicos e irrepetibles.Virtuosos músicos holandeses.Larga vida Focus 🎸👏👍💪🤟🎧🎹
I still love the live album 'Live At Rainbow'
Fantastic!!! Up until recently I only knew the “Hocus Pocus” performance on this show. I hope there’s more!
Holy cow they are very good!!!!
Ah, so all their songs rock and are weird as shit but in an awesome way
That’s only the end of Focus 3. It’s mostly Answers Questions Questions Answers.
Its just not fair it cuts out before the end of the song. I know we can't go back and get the finale, but damn that solo was awesome.
Please clip the Timmy Thomas performance from episode 4, we need to have easy access to that rare performance!
Not familiar with these guys, but they rock! 🙌
Listen to their unconventional hit song _Hocus Pocus,_ it’s a lot of fun and a really great jam, imo. 🤓

@@StephanieJeanne yes, good times. I was 16 when I met them and I loved pretty much everything I listened to in those years.
I am surprised NBC preserved the Midnight Special. Why I said this? Because NBC was not known for saving a lot of TV shows of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.
This was so good. Wished they had the whole performance in the vault (does any outtakes exists in the archives?)
That's a good question. Burt preserved the show but was the extra footage saved or destroyed?
@gregoryduncan3067 the version of hocus pocus on this channel contains outtakes

Hocus pocus
The camera is, sometimes, slightly out of focus.
I love your genesis restorations!
@@jordan177606 You’re welcome ! 😊
they made that because of the name of the band ....lol...
Well, they don't have to write lyrics. That's a +. That's very difficult.

@@tamarabrugara Still, it's nice to have an excuse.
Instrumental Rock, Progressive Rock, Jazz Rock, Fusion... these are styles that don't necessarily need lyrics. In reality, no song needs lyrics.

PLEASE, WHY THIS ONE IS CUT AT THE BEGINNING , EDITING IS NOT FAMOUS I PRESUME ?
That was weird but I guess I'm due one disappointment in my favorite show of all the great bands they had on live back then
