I am 67 years old and drive a 2014 Miata. I do 20 minutes of yoga a day and walk a mile a day to stay in shape so I can spend 12 hours a day driving it on road trips. No back pain, and at 39 k miles no mechanical problems either. What a roadster. :-)
Old Wisdom well I’m 65 and thinking a buying one just for fun and around town errands, etc, my old Benz doesn’t seem to like passing gas stations. Besides I have a lovely A6 for practicality, I also would enjoy getting back to the days when I drove sports cars, fond memories and a few tickets.
What an amazing roadster. I shrugged off the whole "stereotype" with the car 2 minutes into my first test drive. Wow. For the doubters: Watch every single review on RUclips of this car. 99% of them say, "this car is fun!!" and almost all recommend it. I also like that mine is black w/ black wheels so it has a more aggressive look to it :)
Yeah, there's nothing wrong with the new MX-5's 'tranny'. As the mechanic said in the video - the synchronizes have had accelerated wear. My response to the driver/s - learn to heel & toe and double clutch shift. sadmiataface
I am 55 and just bought a 2011 MX-5 and I absolutely love it. It's primarily for my son to drive back and forth to school but as soon as he gets home on Friday, it's mine until Monday. I love how simple it is but so much fun. I've had other convertibles but not with manual transmissions. I had a 2001 911 Carerra 4 Cabrio but it was Tiptronic and it ate right rear tires which means you have to buy 2 at $400-500 a pop. I replaced all 4 tires on the Miata as soon as I got it for under $400. New exhaust coming in a few weeks too. Can't imagine doing that on the Porsche.
i just bought a 2012 retractable with only 15000 miles on it. It's like new.Never seen winter and only rained on a few times.I was going to by a Corvette but gas prices changed my mind
Me too. I have a '12 Miata and fully 80% of the people I see on the road in a miata are 60+ year old men. My mechanic and gearhead friends drive it and they're like "dayyyyyum" (actual response I've gotten). My best friend loves my car but he always says "it's still a little gay" and I say "that's fine... I'm alot gay". I also blow the mustang and camaro guys away at the track. :)
My love for the Miata would be down the toilet if I had to replace a transmission at my expense. The 2016-17 were plagued with manual transmission issues but don't hear much about it in forums anymore (2018-2019). Never heard about it in the automotive media.
Not as good as any sports car I have ever owned and there are many. It is flatly the best sports car I have ever owned. 6 speed automatic comes out of the bottom 3 gears very well. Not as vigorous in the top 3 gears. It's paint, kind of candy red is the best eye catcher of all colors offered. The color favorite is supported by many people. My 3/4 ton truck is very similar in color as is my pristine 2007 Honda 919 motorcycle. All three are winner's. However, my Honda motorcycle is the best accelerator, even at its age.
Woman do. They see that thing and theyre like OH MAI GAWD ITS SO CUUUUTE. Who cares what other men think of you when you drive a miata? You can laugh at them as you rip skids around their civics and minivans. Besides are you trying to attract men that you want something manly?
I don't like it because the grille and front lights look like a big face saying "JHurAa". Otherwise I'm sure it's most spectacularly like a Japanese clone of a 1960s British sports pie. I mean car.
This is whats wrong with these psudo reviews. You can take a very reliable car that consumers buy and drive like, well, a consumer and you beat the hell out of it for the first part of it's break in period and then you have it, tadah! Premature wear and a review showing transmission failure because of the tire spinning and aggressive driving by the idiot who is supposed to be reviewing the car. If you are going to give me a review, review it like sane people drive in a real world situation.!
At least they were honest enough to have the specialist call the "premature wear" on video. You're right, you're absolutely right. My 2012 Gt MX-5 is over 130k now, and no problems yet. Other than replacing the suspension, clutch, flywheel , wheels, tires, and breakpads, this second owner Miata has been incredible. It begs you to push it through corners. I drive mine properly, sometimes getting close to redline, and I don't force-in gears. The car will reward you regardless. Add coilovers, a light flywheel, and light wheels, and you have all the fun you need. It is not a practical car though.

miatas looks they are smiling i like it
Isn't it kinda strange to have to replace the transmission so soon?
For a second there, i thought that was Robert Englund working on your transmission. Great review KBB.

Miata NC built to last! No such luck with Porsche!
She is a money pit, but she's worth it!
Was this the 5 or 6 gear Transmission?
6MT
I guess I will be looking for carolla or civic . Reliability is key
12,000 miles, and how much were the repairs? Especially since that Mazda's vehicles are considered very reliable.
toyotaprius79 about 5 grand in repairs
well, they f'ed it up with the rf nd version.

"mazda never F's up the miata" hahaha xD
like steven miller said, women will say its cutes, and at that point you pull your manhood out and tell em "wanna take a ride?"
That was a great video!
I get that comment alot.
To be fair, they were hooning around a lot on the Miata.
love Miata
It all depends on how hard you drive it yo
