I have a Babylock Accolade which is the base (cheapest) combo machine of overlock & cover stitch. In the Babylock’s you do not need to switch the footplates. The only thing I switch out is the front closing cover door (which is a simple slot) to the coverstitch table which slots into the same position. It’s quick, easy and literally takes 5 seconds. You do need to thread separately for overlock and coverstitch- hence the eight spools - 4 or 5 for overlock and/or chain stitch & 4 for coverstitch. The only thing to be aware of, the Accolade model does not have the ability to use a knit binder. You need to go up a model for this, which is a very pricey jump. I love it, having bought my machine 4-5 years ago. It’s a pricey machine but it’s in constant use (unlike my old overlocker machine) and a breeze to use.
