Okay. Just to all that just MIGHT be interested.......I worked a Disneyland from '70 to '81 as the audio tech. I helped make and mix/blend the zone boxes to each individual float. I do admit the former isn't like the latter but it was a blast making and being a part of it back in the day. And when the 1976 bicentennial parade got in the works, I was there for that also
+chaosdemonwolf1 how much did you job change in 1980 when the soundtrack became computer controlled? did you still have to do the mixing or did the computer do that too.?
chaosdemonwolf1 cool. Since you were around during that time you probably have the answer, were the pre=parade spiels and parade cancelation spiels on the same reel as the parade soundtrack or were those on different tapes?
what was your reaction when you heard ruclips.net/video/2Wj_4U8F3g0/видео.html for the first time. for those curious, this track was only heard in 1977 for three weeks (for obvious reasons)
I remember watching this special so much when I was young. Brings back such good memories. I wish the Disney channel was how it was like these times in the 80s and 90s. My fave parade until this day!!!
The first minute and a half made me really geek out. I remember all of those TV fillers from the Disney Channel, in between the programs. That REALLY took me back to my childhood. My goodness! I miss those times. The special is awesome too! Don't get me wrong. I have this on DVD.
I saw the computer used to drive the "zone" system mentioned at 22:15 into the video. Surprisingly, it was a CP/M system, only 64 kilo-bytes of memory using 8 1/2 inch floppy disks, and the software was written in Basic. There were a pair of 24 track tape players, and I think Electrical Parade used 18 tracks, with a room full of switches to connect any of the 18 tracks with any of the 22 zones as the parade progressed through its route . To track the parade, there were sensors along the route that were triggered by the lead float. One of the sensors was out, so the zone program was coded to put a fixed delay after the prior sensor was triggered to simulate a trigger for the sensor that was out. The guys in the room noted that the lead car driver managed to match the delay usually within a couple of seconds.
It was a Berkey Colortran system actually designed for automated lighting control. It was replaced with a new customized system running on OS/2 in the late 80s. That system has already been replaced with something newer.
+Salicious Bum. I think that's where its sister channel Disney XD came in. It may not have classic Disney cartoons, but it sure is loaded with a few good animated shows.
I saw it on Monday... It is really something. I don't know what we're getting in (Florida) Magic Kingdom now and, It won't be for long in Disneyland. I'm glad I got to see this parade enough times. hehe
@@elpatriotaLX Flordia don’t have many parades besides holiday ones they got rid of there night time show Spectromagic so I don’t think there getting anything new
I remember watching this and recording this, From The Disney Channel, ln 1991/1992! :)::: Thank you, So much, For sharing this! :)::: Wishing l had a Dvd of this, To play, On my Screen-TV, Today. :):::
PJ Hittesdorf ooh aMSEP cast member. a cou;ple of ?'s if i may:1. what year did the Caterpillar pn the pink mushroom get vocals (I found Video with those vocals from '92 but am unsure if it was that year or ''91 (I also found video from '90 and he wasn't talking then yet)\2. What yeae was it that the blue Fairy went from 6 pages careying her train to just 2?
actually alot has changed since this was filmed. all the audio is digital now (no more reel tepes) the audio in now kept in synch with DTMF tones. but the biggest change is the soundtrack which has some music borrowed from Tokyo's version of the parade running there now
It's amazing how much work (and money) must go into making this happen. Since I am into audio music production, I find it interesting that they used a Synclavier to record the music. My understanding is that it was a digital sampling keyboard that cost $250,000 back in the late 70s or early 80s. By the mid-80s, you could do the same thing with an Emu Systems EMAX for $3-4000. Now, it's all done with "software synths" and computer memory and hard disk space is so cheap that you get more bang for the buck on what the electronics can do to produce the music.
@116392329910277422468 yeah back when they made the soundtrack, it was a painstaking process because for some of those instruments you had to play the music one note at a time and layering it until you got chords.
The Legendary Prophet 5 was reissued a couple of years ago. The Parade debuted in 72, the Prophet 5 debuted in 78 so that means it had some parts that were added in later versions of the parade.
correct . after the initial debut in '72 new elements were added others reworked in ;77, '78, '80, '81, ;85 and '88 after the '88 the next *BIG* change occurred in 2--0 when the Soundtrack from "Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: Dreamlights" with new sections being composed fore the American version (Cinderella, Pinocchio, Tom Honor America and Dumbo (recorded but never used in the actual parade)
Main street electrical parade will be back in near future I love this attraction in disneyland park I saw it in 1985 all way up to this year happy Halloween to you guys
Ahh, yes. I was only four years old when this aired as a rerun in the early 90s and had very little understanding of what this was about (back when Disney Channel was still a pay channel and not standard cable yet).
fun fact: if it weren't for Bob Jani, we wouldn't have heard the closing fanfare in the parade (Don Dorsey didn't think there was a ned for it after it was used in the Orange Bowl half-time show)
I was working at TDL,Japan. I participated in this parade (dream lights version).First time,I belonged to guest control unit as a cast mamber. Second time, I drove floats as a parede staff. I feel nostalgic very much.
This is when the Disney Channel was at its best!! Now it's pure crap! I miss the Disney Channel of the 80's and early 90's. I loved the Dateline Disneyland Shows, or the Shows that have Walt, or behind the scenes etc.
Don't say that because Disney's Main Street electrical parade is still in the parks and they do it this year in the summer night - tastic event in the present now. They only end Main Street electrical parade in month of January by putting it in storage so you don't have to be sad about it. So if you get this message please reply and subscribe to my channel please
+Rebellious Brony it's not really dead, Paint The Night is like a newer version of this parade. Even Paint The Night soundtrack sounds like "Electrical Parade" soundtrack.
I wouldn't actually mind seeing a special Star Wars version of this parade. like for some special anniversary event for the original Star Wars Trilogy film series.
Wow, this is awesome. I've never seen MSEP described better than this. Though do you think everything is the same today? Especially the audio equipment?
I wondered where this aired? The other comment says Disney Channel but I can't believe that. I would watch the sh** out of Disney Channel if it had documentaries about all of the Disney Parks and movies. And it really sucks that the Dumbo Floats, the Blue Fairy, and the other Pinocchio float had to be retired. Hopefully they could come back eventually.
TeraniumGaming On January 19th, they're doing a special event in which they show the Electrical Parade the night before they show it to the public. I bought tickets for that. Tickets are $95.
For everyone who loces this parade their bringing it back on 60th Anaversery/Diamond celebration. This one will be a newer version. This will happen Summer 2015
No they are absolutely not bringing it back. They are debuting a completely different parade, called "Paint the Night." Entirely different floats and different music. This original version of the parade still runs at WDW's Magic Kingdom though. :)
yep now all that's left to be revealed is what will it's name be when it comes back (some have said it would be called the Main Street Electrical Parade while I've heard others say that the announcements heard will be the generic "Disney's Electrical Parade" ones. only time will tell

Yeah there was a time, back in the last century, when the Disney channel had interesting programming.
Richard Feist I know right? there was a time when the Disney Channel cared about entertaining someone that wasn't a 13 year old girl
+Richard Feist Right? Now it's shows about teen girls wanting boyfriends. No classic Disney cartoons.
+Richard Feist So true! They are even giving tech info. Something if covered on the current channel would just gloss over this detail.

what do you think of the new version of the Train & Drum that Dreamlights got in 2022, hard to believe that was the last of the 2001 floats.
So if you drove the floats can you tell me where the drivers were in the larger floats please.I am very curious.
Thanking You

what does the control room look like today? all on a smartphone?
I remember watching this at the great moments with Mr Lincoln attraction at Disneyland during AP days 2017
