All hand cut, hand drawn, and written cards with pen on paper.
Just by making the cards alone i acquired a lot of vocab.

    • @Matthias129
      @Matthias129 4 месяца назад +6

For hands on learners, absolutely! Though for others, maybe not so much. If you're doing that solo, you also need to make sure that the information you're writing down is correct. Nothing worse than accidentally ingraining wrong information by having one (or more!) of your cards incorrect!

    • @aliceberethart
      @aliceberethart 4 месяца назад +2

@@Matthias129 That is true for some. For me, researching and verifying the information gave me a lot of insight, however.
I don't think mistakes are the problem, you learn a lot from correcting mistakes you make.
When learning a language one shouldn't be worried about getting things wrong, i mean, children get a lot wrong all the time, but they're constantly corrected.
As long as you're actively researching what you learn, or have someone tell you what's what, you're actually going to get ahead in a lot of circumstances.

You're definitely not kidding when you say this is a hard language though. I'm fluent in Portuguese and some French and both of those languages are cupcakes compared to Japanese. Did your videos level up??? Excellent intro, dude. Look at all that text! XD And I love the use of animations and fun graphics choices.
Your snack of uncooked spaghetti is definitely my favourite mic so far. The Anki explanation was about what I got from my pal who set me up with the Refold Method. Absolutely hilarious. I have to listen more (I tend to feel like my brain is mush after about 4 hours), and start reading a massive amount (the way I learned English in the first place). She's been learning almost entirely passively for a couple years, just through immersion of various kinds. I tend to have to learn things more actively, so I'll definitely be adding wanikani to my list of resources to check out. I've worked my way through a workbook of katakana and hiragana, so I feel pretty comfortable with them finally, and am looking to continue the trend with more kanji so I can work on becoming literate. The act of writing the characters seems to be the only way to cement them properly in my mind. Probably has to do with this aphantasia thing I keep hearing about.
Regardless, I'm further along in my understanding than I was a month ago, so something is sticking. Throw enough at the wall, eventually something has to, right? Totally different learning strategy to what I've been through with other languages, but I'm appreciating the progress happening with just the repetition and exposure. Pretty nice to suddenly have new phrases and vocab words I hadn't been able to notice before.
I admire your gusto going for AJATT. Pretty wild. One day I might take that step. I've spent too many years putting off learning Japanese, because I was too aware of the commitment it would be. The dream has been in my head for half my life, at this point, tho, so I think it's safe to say it's gonna hang out and needs me to give it some attention. Crying about not knowing it won't help me learn. Need to put in the hours. Lots of hours. At least I'm finding ways to enjoy it.
Gotta get back to my Japanese youtubers, now. Lol. I'll be adding your other channel tho. Excited to see what nonsense you get up to!

Haha ya the refold deck is also a great starting point. Was gonna mention it as a paid alternative but did not think it was anything insanely better so just left it out. Same with migaku beginner courses. Well they are better but the core 2k is almost everything they are. Haha thanks for watching even during your immersion grind!

The first point is so key. I've wanted to learn Japanese for a long time, and put some work in years ago-but I stopped since immersion and day-to-day usage was very difficult to achieve. Well... that, and burning out by needing to be responsible at the same time, and/or torn by art and entertainment.
Now, this video is reminding me of it, and there's that twinge of "should I pick it back up again?" Ultimately, I know I should learn Spanish because where I live it's very common, and I'd have plenty of opportunities to practice. I don't know if I'd want to live and work in Japan for the best immersion. Decisions, decisions...
Regardless, way to harness autism as a superpower (forgive me if this is an incorrect observation). That's something I could totally learn from as a self-diagnosed individual, and it's inspiring.

oh no thats absolutely a correct observation LMAO its nice for my mental illness to come in handy every once in a while considering most of the time it just prevents me from making eye contact and having normal conversations
honestly learning a language is like adopting a pet or a child. it requires attention even on the days where you dont want to bring it. learning spanish is like getting a pet lizard, while japanese is like 5 dogs hahaha depends what youre willing to do

So just learn Hiragana and Katakana and a lot of words, then learn Kanji and a lot of words, listen to japanese songs, watch anime or read manga in japanese and use the right apps to learn ( not just Duolingo for 222 days as I did ) Just keep learning and if posible go to japan, maybe even move if you really want.
Also a thing I do is putting sticky notes on things in my house with the japanese word on it ( with kanji and romanji )

Useful advice, I might try wanikani. However for me, my learning progress switched gears when I got some japanese friends. In the beginning my head hurt after a day of hanging out. Before that, I had studied for around 3 years and knew what lots of words meant, but would struggle to transform a native japanese sentence into meaning as I heard it. After a while conversing with friends in person I started to naturally hear and separate the different words better, and automatically turn it into meaning.
Which is one thing. Now you have to respond? Output is also something to get used to, and having friends to talk to really helps. You have to find someone who will put up with your broken baby japanese though haha!
Having japanese friends will also motivate you to study more because it’ll make you want to be able to communicate better with them.
    Anyway, thank you for reading.

Japanese has to be or ‘become’ something you truly want to know, like mentioned in the first pillar. You’ll feel like something is missing from your day if you haven’t practiced it. If you truly want it, you’ll become addicted once you start. I cannot get across how fulfilling it is to learn a foreign language even when you’re struggling.
Use this moment right now to start, it’s as easy as watching a short RUclips vid that covers how to pronounce hiragana. Just 2-3 minutes.

    • @narsplace

For me was to force-swap the language of something that usually what i'm trying to say in my mother tongue:
For the first time i said 腹減った and my mom is confused, so i need to explain it to her. She knows that i'm learning Japanese so she just agree with it over time
When i grunt, instead of "ughhh" to よし or んー everytime i sat down
When something bad happened, instead of "damn it" to 仕舞った
When i just don't care anymore, instead of "never mind, whatever" 仕方ない
When i lost a match in game, instead of "Noob" to 全く
When i know i'm in danger, instead of "sh!t, screwed" to やばい

@@BecomeAnything. The grind goes well. I think a thing your video might miss (that probably helps me the most) is that Duolingo is a decent way to get your foot in the door.
You can use it for free, and if you find it enjoyable, then you can spring for stuff that works better. These days, the most I use Duolingo for is the streak counter. I haven't missed a day of Japanese practice in 180 days, and a lot of that is because that owl reminds me constantly and is on the home page of my phone.
Even though Ionly do like hiragana or Kanji practice on Duo in order to keep the streak going and most of my efforts are on Wanikani or reading NHK Web Easy Articles, or listening to Japanese Podcasts at work to get familiar with the way the language sounds.
I think for some people that's a powerful motivator.
